بِسْمِIn the name ofاللَّهِAllahالرَّحْمَـٰنِthe Most Graciousالرَّحِيمِthe Most Merciful
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
قَالَsaidأَبُوAbuحَنِيفَةَHanifaرَضِيَmay Allah be pleasedاللَّهُAllahعَنْهُwith himالْحَمْدُPraiseلِلَّهِbe to AllahأَوَّلًاFirstوَآخِرًاand lastوَظَاهِرًاand outwardlyوَبَاطِنًاand inwardlyتَوْحِيدًاmonotheismوَتَمْجِيدًاand glorifyingوَعَقِيدَةًand beliefوَحَقِيقَةًand truthوَشَرِيعَةًand law
Abu Hanifa, may Allah be pleased with him, said: Praise be to Allah first and last, outwardly and inwardly, in monotheism, glorifying, belief, truth, and law.
وَالْحَمْدُAnd praiseلِلَّهِbe to AllahمُسْتَحِقٌّWho is deserving ofالْحَمْدِpraiseقَبْلَbeforeعِبَادِهِHis servantsوَصَلَّىand may blessings be uponاللَّهُAllahعَلَىuponسَيِّدِنَاour masterمُحَمَّدٍMuhammadوَآلِهِand his family
And praise be to Allah, who is deserving of praise before His servants, and may blessings be upon our master Muhammad and his family.
أَمَّاAs forبَعْدَafterقَالَsaidأَبُوAbuمَنْصُورٍMansourالْمَاتُرِيدِيِّthe Maturidiرَحِمَهُmay Allah have mercy on himقَدْindeedسَأَلْتُمُونِيyou have asked meأَكْرَمَكُمُmay Allah honor youاللَّهُAllahبِالتَّقْوَىwith pietyأَنْtoأَشْرَحَexplainلَكُمto youالْفِقْهَthe jurisprudenceالْأَكْبَرَthe greaterالَّذِيwhichيُنْسَبُis attributedإِلَىtoأَبِيAbuحَنِيفَةَHanifaرَضِيَmay Allah be pleasedاللَّهُAllahعَنْهُwith himبِأَسَانِيدَwith authentic chainsصَحِيحَةٍthat are authentic
As for what Abu Mansur al-Maturidi, may Allah have mercy on him, said: Indeed, you have asked me, may Allah honor you, with piety, to explain to you the greater jurisprudence which is attributed to Abu Hanifa, may Allah be pleased with him, with authentic chains.
فَأَجَبْتُSo I respondedإِلَىtoمَلْتَمَسِكُمyour requestبِمَعُونَةِwith the helpاللَّهِof Allahوَحُسنِand goodتَوْفِيقِهِguidanceإِنَّهُIndeed, Heهُوَisالمُعِينُthe Helperالمُوَفَّقُthe guiding
So I responded to your request with the help of Allah and His good guidance. Indeed, He is the Helper and the guiding.
قَالَHe saidأَبُوAbuحَنِيفَةُHanifaرَضِيَmay Allah be pleasedاللَّهُAllahعَنْهُwith him(لَا(Do notنَكْفُرُdeclare unbeliefأَحَدًاanyoneبِذَنبٍfor a sinوَلَاand norنُنْفِيdo we denyأَحَدًاanyoneمِنَfrom(الإيمان)(faith)) قَالَ) He said
Abu Hanifa, may Allah be pleased with him, said: (We do not declare anyone to be a disbeliever for a sin, nor do we deny anyone from (faith).
قَالَHe saidالْفَقِيهُthe juristرَحِمَهُmay Allah have mercy on himهَذِهِThis isمَسْئَلَةٌa matterمُخْتَلَفٌcontroversialفِيهَاin itقَالَتْthe saidالْخَوَارِجُthe Khawarijإِذَاifارْتَكَبَone commitsالْإِنْسَانُa humanكَبِيرَةًa major sinمِنَofالْكَبَائِرِthe major sinsفَإِنَّهُthen heيَكْفُرُbecomes a disbelieverوَيَزُولُand removesعَنْهُfrom himالإِيمَانَfaith
The jurist, may Allah have mercy on him, said: This is a controversial matter; the Khawarij said: If a human commits a major sin of the major sins, then he becomes a disbeliever and faith is removed from him.
وَقَالَتْAnd it saidالْمُرْجِئَةُthe Murjitesلَاdo notتَكُونُbecomeالْكَبِيرَةُthe major sinبِذَنبٍfor a sinقَالُواthey said
And the Murjites said: A major sin does not become a disbeliever for a sin.
