اللَّيْلَthe nightوَيَتَذَوَّقُand he tastesحَلاَوَتَهَاits sweetnessفِيinصَرِيرِthe creakالأَقْلَامِof the pensوَيُتَرَنِّمُand he singsبِسَمَاعِto the sound ofنَقْرٍtappingالْمُتَرَبَّةِof the dustyأَفْضَلَbetterمِمَّاthan whatيَرَاهُhe seesأَهْلُthe people ofالأَشْوَاقِlongingإِلَىtoلَهْوِهِمtheir amusementوَطَرَبِهِمand their joy

The night, and he tastes its sweetness in the creak of the pens, and sings to the sound of dust tapping better than what the people of longing see in their amusement and joy.

فَهَذَاSo thisقَالَ لَهُمis their speakerيَقُولُsays

So this is what their speaker says:

سَهَريMy wakefulnessلِتَنْقِيحِfor the refinement ofالْعُلُومِsciencesأَلَذُّmore pleasurableلِيfor meمِنthanوَصْلِthe connection ofغَانِيَةٍa beautiful womanوَطَبِيبٍand of a sweet embrace;

My wakefulness for the refinement of the sciences is more pleasurable for me than the connection of a beautiful woman and a sweet embrace.

وَتَمَايُلِيAnd my swayingطَرَبًاwith joy;لِحَلِّto solveعَوِيصَةٍdifficult riddlesأَحْلَىsweeter thanمِنthanالدُّوكَاتِthe ducatsوَالْعُشَّاقِand the lovers;

And my swaying with joy to solve difficult riddles is sweeter than the ducats and the lovers;

وَأَلَذُّAnd more deliciousمِنthanنَقْرِtappingالْفَتَاةِof the girlلِدُفِّهَاof her drum;نَقْرِيmy tappingلَأُلْقِيَto castالتُّرُبَthe dustعَنْfromأَوْرَاقِيmy papers.

And more delicious than the tapping of the girl of her drum; my tapping to cast the dust from my papers.

وَصَرِيرِAnd the creakأَقْلَامِيof my pensعَلَىonأَوْرَاقِهَاits papersأَشْهَىis more deliciousوَأَحْلَىand sweeterمِنthanمَدَامَةٍthe wine;سَاقِيof the cupbearer.

And the creak of my pens over its papers is more delicious and sweeter than the wine of the cupbearer.

الْبَيْتَThe houseسَهْرَانٌis awakeفِي الدُّجَىthe darknessوَتَبِيتُهُAnd you spend the night in sleepنَوْمًاsleepingوَتَبْغِيAnd you wishبَعْدَafterذَاكَthatلِحَاقِيmy pursuit.

The house is awake in the darkness, and you spend the night in sleeping, and you wish after that for my pursuit.

إِنَّنَاIndeed weلَنَسْعَدَنَاare pleasedبِاسْمِIn the name ofإِدَارَةِthe administrationالشُّؤُونِof affairs;الدِّينِيَّةِreligiousالْحَرِيصَةِthe attentive;كُلِّallالْحِرَصِthe eagernessعَلَىonالتُّرَاثِthe heritage

Indeed we are pleased, in the name of the administration of religious affairs, the attentive to the heritage;

أَنْtoنُقَدِّمَofferإِلَىtoالْقُرَّاءِthe readers;الأَكْرَامthe nobles;عُشَّاقَthe loversالثَّقَافَةِof culture;الإِسْلَامِيَّةِIslamic;وَطُلَّابَand studentsالْعِلْمِof knowledge;الإِسْلَامِيِّIslamic.الْوَاعِينَthe awareالْحَرِيصِينَthe eagerعَلَىonالانْتِهَالِthe attainmentمِنfromالتُّرَاثِthe heritage;

to offer to the readers, the nobles, those in love with the Islamic culture and students of Islamic knowledge, the aware and eager to attain from the heritage,

هَذَاThisالْكِتَابَbook;شَرْحَthe explanationالْفِقْهِof jurisprudenceالأَكْبَرَthe greaterلِلْإِمَامِof the ImamأَبِيAbuحَنِيفَةَHanifahالنُّعْمَانِthe Nu'manبِنْson ofثَابِتٍThabit;الْكُوفِيِّal-Kufiصَاحِبِthe possessor ofالْمَذْهَبِthe schoolرَحِمَهُmay Allah have mercy on him;رَحْمَةًmercyوَاسِعَةًwide;

This is the book: the explanation of the greater jurisprudence of Imam Abu Hanifah al-Nu'man bin Thabit al-Kufi, may Allah have mercy on him;

بِشَرْحِwith the explanation ofإِمَامِthe Imamالْمُتَكَلِّمِينَof the speakers;وَعِلْمِand knowledgeالْهُدَىof guidance;رَئِيسِthe head;أَهْلِof the people ofالسُّنَّةِthe Sunnah;أَبِيof Abdurrahmanمَنْصُورٍthe MansoorمُحَمَّدٍMuhammadبِنْson ofمُحَمَّدٍMuhammad;بِنْson ofمَحْمُودٍMahmood;الْحَنَفيِّthe Hanafi.الْمَاتْرِيدِيِّthe Maturidi;السَّمَرْقَنْدِيِّof al-Samarqand.

with the explanation of the Imam of the speakers and knowledge of guidance, the head of the people of Sunnah, Abdurrahman Mansoor Muhammad bin Muhammad bin Mahmood al-Hanafi al-Maturidi al-Samarqandi.

وَمَاAnd notكُنَّاwe wereنُودُّwe wishأَنْthatيَتَسَمَّىhe be namedبِالْمَاتْرِيدِيِّthe Maturidi;وَكَانَand it was enough for himيَكْفِيَهُfor himأَنْthatيَقُولَhe saysالسَّلاَفِيُّthe Salafi;وَهُوَand he isالَّذِيthe one whoخَدَمَservedمَذْهَبَهُhis schoolخِدْمَةًserviceجَلِيلَةًgreat;فَهُوَso he isصَاحِبُthe possessor ofالتَّصَانِيفِclassificationsالْجَلِيلَةِgreat;فِيinشَتَّىvariousفُنُونِartsالْعِلْمِof knowledge;وَقَدْand he hasتَوَفِّيَpassed awayرَحِمَهُmay Allah have mercy on him;رَحْمَةًmercyوَاسِعَةًwide;فِيthe yearاثْنَتَيْنِtwo;أَوْ(orثَلاَثٍthreeوَثَلاَثِينَand thirtyوَثَلاَثِمِئَةٍand three hundredلِلْهِجْرَةِfor the Hijra;النَّبَوِيَّةِthe Prophet.آمِلِينَHopefulأَنْthatنَكُونَwe beبِهَذَاwith thisالْكِتَابَbook,(شَرْحَ(the explanation ofالْفِقْهِjurisprudence;الأَكْبَرِ)the greater)

And not we wish that he be named the Maturidi and it was enough for him to be called the Salafi; and he is the one who served his school with great service so he is the possessor of great classifications in various arts of knowledge; and he passed away, may Allah have mercy on him, wide mercy in the year two (or three and thirty and three hundred for the Hijra of the Prophet.

آمِلِينَHopefulأَنْtoنَكُونَwe beبِهَذَاwith thisالْكِتَابَbook,(شَرْحَ(the explanation ofالْفِقْهِjurisprudence;الأَكْبَرِ)the greater)

Hopeful that we could be with this book (the explanation of the greater jurisprudence)

قَدْIndeedقَدَّمْنَاwe have presentedلِأُمَّتِنَاto our nationوَدِينِنَاand our religion,الْحَنِيفِthe Hanif,بَعْضَsomeمَاwhatفِيinعُنُقِنَاour necks;

Indeed, we have presented to our nation and our religion, the Hanif, some of what is on our necks;

جَزَىMay rewardاللَّهُAllahتَعَالَىthe Almighty;مُؤَلِّفَهُits author;وَكُلَّand allمَنْwhoسَاهَمَcontributedفِيinطَبْعِهِits printing;وَمُرَاجَعَتِهِand in its review;وَإَخْرَاجِهِand in its publishing;لِحَيِّزِto the domainالْوُجُودِof existence.

May Allah the Almighty reward its author and all who contributed in its printing, review, and publishing to the domain of existence.

إنَّهُIndeed, Heسَمِيعٌis All-Hearingمُجِيبٌand Responsive;وَصَلَّىand may peaceاللَّهُAllahعَلَىuponسَيِّدِنَاour masterمُحَمَّدٍMuhammadوَعَلَىand uponآلِهِhis family;وَصَحْبِهِand companions.وَسَلَّمَand peace.

Indeed, He is All-Hearing and Responsive; and may peace be upon our master Muhammad and upon his family and companions.

سُبْحَانَGlory beرَبِّكَto your Lord;رَبُّthe Lordالْعِزَّةِof Glory,عَمَّfrom whatيَصِفُونَthey describe;

Glory be to your Lord, the Lord of Glory, from what they describe;

وَسَلَامٌAnd peaceعَلَىuponالرُّسُلِthe messengers;

And peace be upon the messengers;

وَالْحَمْدُAnd all praiseلِرَبِّis to the Lordالْعَالَمِينَof the worlds.

And all praise is to the Lord of the worlds.

خَادِمُThe servantالْعِلْمِof knowledge,عَبْدُAbdاللَّهِAllah.بْنِbin,إِبْرَاهِيمَIbrahim;الْأَنْصَارِيُّthe Ansari.
