وَأَثْنَاءَAnd duringسَيْرِهِhis journeyسَيْطَرَتِcontrolledالطَّرِيقَةُthe wayالَّتِيthatتَصَرَّفَhe actedبِهَاwith itعَلَىonفِكْرِهِhis thoughtوَأَفْسَدَتْand spoiledعَلَيْهِon himذِكْرَيَاتِهِhis memoriesالْجَمِيلَةَthe beautiful

And during his journey, the way he acted on his thought spoiled his beautiful memories.

وَمَهْمَاAnd no matter howحَاوَلَhe triedأَنْtoيُلْهِيَdistractنَفْسَهُhimselfبِالتَّفْكِيرِwith thinkingفِيinشَيْءٍsomethingآخَرَelseلَاحَقَهُhe was pursued byمَشْهَدُthe scene ofالْجُنْدِيِّthe soldierذِيwho isالثِّيَابِin clothingالرَّثَّةِtatteredالَّذِيthatتَرَكَهُleft himوَحِيدًاaloneفِيinالْحَقْلِthe field

And no matter how hard he tried to distract himself with thinking about something else, he was pursued by the scene of the soldier in tattered clothing that left him alone in the field.

نَظَرَHe lookedهنريHenryإِلَىatأَصْدِقَائِهِhis friendsوَandتَيَقَّنَwas sureأَنَّهُمْthat theyإِذَاifنَظَرُواthey lookedإِلَيْهِat himفَسَيَرَوْنَthey will seeنَظْرَةَthe glance ofالذَّنْبِguiltفِيinوَجْهِهِhis face

Henry looked at his friends and was sure that if they looked at him they would see the glance of guilt on his face

لَكِنَّهُمْbut theyكَانُواwereيَبْتَعِدُونَdistancing themselvesوَيَتَحَدَّثُونَand talkingعَنِaboutالنَّصْرِthe victoryالْعَظِيمِthe greatالَّذِيwhichحَقَّقُوهُthey achievedفِيinالْمَعْرَكَةِthe battleالْأَخِيرَةِthe last

but they were distancing themselves and talking about the great victory they achieved in the last battle.

لِفَتْرَةٍFor a periodشَغَلَتْهُthis occupied himهَذِهِthisالذِّكْرَىmemoryعَنْfromكُلِّallمَظَاهِرِaspectsالِاحْتِفَالِof celebration

For a period, this memory occupied him from all aspects of celebration.

لَقَدْIndeedأَدْرَكَhe recognizedخَطَأَهُhis mistakeوَخَافَand fearedأَنْthatيُرَافِقَهُwould accompany himالشُّعُورُthe feelingبِالذَّنْبِof guiltطِيلَةَfor the duration ofحَيَاتِهِhis life

Indeed, he recognized his mistake and feared that the feeling of guilt would accompany him for the duration of his life.

تَجَنَّبَHe avoidedالْحَدِيثَthe conversationمَعَwithأَصْدِقَائِهِhis friendsوَتَفَادَىand avoidedالنَّظَرَthe gazeإِلَيْهِمْat them

He avoided the conversation with his friends and avoided looking at them.

لَكِنْButشَيْئًاslowlyفَشَيْئًاbit by bitاسْتَجْمَعَgatheredهنريHenryالْقُوَّةَstrengthلِإِلْقَاءِto throwذَلِكَthatالْخَطَأِmistakeوَandرَاءَbehindظَهْرِهِhis back

But, slowly, bit by bit, Henry gathered the strength to throw that mistake behind his back

وَأَخِيرًاand finallyبَدَاit seemedأَنَّهُthat heيُفَكِّرُwas thinkingبِأُسْلُوبٍin a wayمُخْتَلِفٍdifferent

and finally it seemed that he was thinking in a different way.

تَذَكَّرَHe rememberedأُسْلُوبَهُhis approachوَandمُعْتَقَدَاتِهُhis beliefsقَبْلَbeforeالْمَعْرَكَةِthe battleوَاكْتَشَفَand discoveredأَنَّهُthat heكَرِهَhatedهَذَاthisالْأُسْلُوبَapproach

He remembered his approach and beliefs before the battle, and discovered that he hated this approach.

وَمَعَAnd withهَذَاthisالِاكْتِشَافِdiscoveryاسْتَعَادَhe regainedثِقَتَهُhis confidenceبِنَفْسِهِin himself

And with this discovery, he regained his confidence in himself.

لَقَدْIndeedشَعَرَhe feltأَنَّهُthat heأَصْبَحَhas becomeبِالْفِعْلِactuallyرَجُلًاa manقَوِيًّاstrongرَابِطَsteadyالْجَأْشِin composure

Indeed, he felt that he has become actually a strong man of steady composure.

عَلِمَHe knewأَنَّهُthat heلَنْwill notيَنْسَحِبَwithdrawمِنْfromأَيِّanyمَعَارِكَbattlesقَادِمَةٍcoming

He knew that he will not withdraw from any coming battles.

كَانَHe wasقَرِيبًاcloseمِنَtoالْمَوْتِdeathوَاكْتَشَفَand discoveredفِيinالنِّهَايَةِthe endأَنَّهُthat itمَوْتٌis deathفَحَسْبُonly

He was close to death, and discovered in the end that it is death only.

وَهَكَذَاAnd thusتَغَيَّرَتْchangedرُوحُهُhis spiritأَثْنَاءَduringعَوْدَتِهِhis returnمِنْfromسَاحَةِthe arena ofالدِّمَاءِbloodوَالْغَضَبِand anger

And thus, his spirit changed during his return from the arena of blood and anger.

لَمْDid notيَعُدْremainغَاضِبًاangryأَوْorخَائِفًاafraid

He did not remain angry or afraid.

أَمْطَرَتِRainedالسَّمَاءُthe skyوَوَاصَلَand continuedالْجُنُودُthe soldiersمَسِيرَتَهُمْtheir marchعَبْرَthroughالْأَرْضِthe landالْمُوحِلَةِmuddy

It rained, and the soldiers continued their march through the muddy land.

بَدَاBeganعَلَيْهِمْon themالِانْزِعَاجُthe disturbanceوَأَخَذُواand they beganيُغَمْغِمُونَmurmuringبِكَلِمَاتٍwith wordsغَيْرِnotمَفْهُومَةٍunderstood

A disturbance appeared on them, and they began murmuring with words not understood.

لَكِنَّButهنريHenryابْتَسَمَsmiledلِأَنَّهُbecause heرَأَىsawأَنَّthatالْعَالَمَthe worldفِيinانْتِظَارِهِwaiting for him

But Henry smiled; because he saw that the world was waiting for him.

لَقَدْIndeedتَحَرَّرَhe was freedمِنْfromمَخَاوِفِfears ofالْحُرُوبِthe wars

Indeed, he was freed from the fears of the wars!

لَقَدِIndeedانْتَهَىhas endedالْكَابُوسُthe nightmare

Indeed, the nightmare has ended!

كَانَHe wasمِثْلَlikeحَيَوَانٍan animalيَفْزَعُterrifiedأَشَدَّextremelyالْفَزَعِin fearمِنْfromأَهْوَالِthe horrors ofالْحُرُوبِthe warsوَأَخْطَارِهَاand its dangers

He was like an animal terrified extremely in fear from the horrors of the wars and its dangers.

نَظَرَHe lookedهنريHenryحَوْلَهُaround himإِلَىatالسَّمَاءِthe skyالْجَمِيلَةِbeautifulوَandالْمَرَاعِيthe meadowsالنَّاضِرَةِlushوَandالْأَنْهَارِthe riversالْبَارِدَةِcold

Henry looked around him at the beautiful sky, the lush meadows, and the cold rivers;

حَيَاةٌa lifeمِنَofالسَّلَامِpeaceالدَّائِمِeverlasting

a life of everlasting peace.

وَفَوْقَAnd aboveالنَّهْرِthe riverسَقَطَfellشُعَاعُrayشَمْسٍof sunذَهَبِيٌّgoldenمِنْfromبَيْنِbetweenالسُّحُبِthe cloudsالْمَطِيرَةِrainy

And above the river, a golden ray of sun fell from between the rainy clouds.
