Perhaps the general will ask him for information and Henry will inform him of all the confusion that is overwhelming the front rows; because he knew everything. Henry wanted to inform the general that it was a mistake to sit here without making any effort to stop the death that claims souls behind him. What fool will say that men should retreat backward?

Henry shrunk as if he is involved in a crime.

They triumphed despite everything! The fools who remained behind defeated the enemy. He was able to hear the call from behind him. He turned and was enveloped by a feeling of astonishment and anger; he felt that he made a mistake.

Henry informed himself that he fled because the crushing defeat was imminent.

Indeed, he did the right thing by saving himself. Henri was a small part of the army, and it is the obligation of every small part to save itself if it could. And then it is possible for the officers to gather the small parts together to form the army again. Henri confirmed to himself that his action was a wise action.

Henry thought about his companions who stood firm and won the battle; and this idea increased his feeling of bitterness; as it seemed that their foolishness had deceived him.
