أَطَتْThe sky groanedالسَّمَاءُ،the sky,وَحَقٌّand it is rightلَهَاfor itأَنْtoتَنطَjump
The sky groaned, and it is right for it to jump.
الأَطِيطُAnd the groaning:صَرِيرٌis the creakingالرَّحْلِ؛of the saddle;أَيْ:that is:إِذَاifكَانَthere isعَلَىonالْبَعِيرِthe camelحَمَلٌheavy load;ثَقِيلٌ؛you hear (CREAKING)تَسْمَعُ(CREAKING)لَهُof itصَرِيرٌthe creaking
And the groaning is the creaking of the saddle; that is: if there is a heavy load on the camel; you hear the creaking because of the heaviness of the load.
فَيَقُولُSo the Messengerالرَّسُولُ(peace be upon him):«أَطَتْ"The sky groaned,السَّمَاءُ،the sky,وَحَقٌّand it is rightلَهَاfor itأَنْtoتَنطَ،jump,مَاthere is noمِنْofمَوْضِعٍplaceأَرْبَعٍfourأَصَابِعٍfingersمِنْهَا؛except in it;إِلَّاexceptوَفِيهَاand in itمَلَكًاan angelقَائِمًاstandingلِلَّهِfor Allahأَوْorرَاكِعًاbowingأَوْorسَاجِدٌ»(۱)،prostrating" (1),
So the Messenger (peace be upon him) says: "The sky groaned, and it is right for it to jump; there is not a place four fingers from it; except in it is an angel standing for Allah or bowing or prostrating" (1),
وَعَلَىAnd onسِعَةِthe vastnessالسَّمَاءِof the skyفِيهَاin it;هَـؤُلَاءِtheseالْمَلَائِكَةُangels.
And on the vastness of the sky in it, there are these angels.
وَلِهَذَاAnd for this reason,قَالَthe Prophetالرَّسُولُ(peace be upon him)فِيinالْبَيْتِthe al-Bayt (Sacred House)الْمَعْمُورِthat is frequentedالَّذِيthatمَرَّhe passedبِهِby itفِيinلَيْلَةِthe Nightالمِعْرَاجِ؛of Isra and Mi'raj;قَالَhe said:يَطُوفُ"There circle around itبِهِitأَوْorقَالَhe saidيَدْخُلُهُit entersسَبْعُونَSeventyأَلْفَthousandمَلَكٍangelsكُلَّeveryيَوْمٍ،day,ثُمَّthenلَاnotيَعُودُونَreturn toإِلَيْهِhimآخِرَthe lastمَاwhatعَلَيْهِمthey have upon them (to do).
And for this reason, the Messenger (peace be upon him) said in the al-Bayt (Sacred House) that he passed by in the Night of Isra and Mi'raj: "There circle around it or he said: 'It enters seventy thousand angels every day, and they do not return to him ever, what is upon them.'
وَالْمَعْنَىٰ:And the meaning:كُلَّEveryيَوْمٍdayيَأْتِيcomesإِلَيْهِto it,سَبْعُونَseventyأَلْفٍthousandمَلَكٍangelsغَيْرَother thanالَّذِينَthose whoأَتَوْهُcame to itبِالْأَمْسِ،yesterday,وَلَاand they do notيَعُودُونَreturn to it;يَأْتِيthere comeمَلَائِكَةٌother angels,آخَرُونَotherغَيْرَother thanمِمَّنْfromسَبَقَ،those who have preceded,
And the meaning: Every day, seventy thousand angels come to it, other than those who came to it yesterday, and they do not return to it; there come other angels different than those who have preceded.
وَهَذَاAnd thisيَدُلُّindicatesعَلَىonكَثْرَةِthe abundanceالْمَلَائِكَةِ،of angels,وَلِهَذَاand for thisقَالَAllah, the Almighty:﴿"وَمَاAnd whatيَعْلَمُknowsجُنُودَthe armiesرَبِّكَof your LordإِلَّاexceptهُوَHe."
And this indicates the abundance of angels, and for this, Allah, the Almighty said: "And what knows the armies of your Lord except Him."
وَمِنْهُمْAnd among themمَلَائِكَةٌare angelsمَوْكَلُونَappointedبِالْجَنَّةِto HeavenوَمَوْكَلُونَAnd appointedبِالنَّارِ؛to Hell;فَخَازِنٌand the keeperالنَّارِof Hellاسْمُهُis named Malak;يَقُولُhe saysأَهْلُthe peopleالنَّارِ:of Hell:﴿﴿يَمَلِكُ"Let your Lord decideلِيَقْضِيfor usعَلَيْنَاagainst usرَبُّكَO Lord."﴾﴾[زخرف:[Az-Zukhruf:٧٧]؛77];يَعْنِي:means:لِيُهْلِكَنَاto destroy us,وَيُمِتَّنَا؛and to kill us;فَهُمْSo theyيَدْعُونَinvokeاللَّهَAllahأَنْtoيُمِيتَهُمْ؛kill them;لِأَنَّهُمْbecause theyفِيinعَذَابٍtormentلَاthat they cannotيُصْبَرُواbe patient on,عَلَيْهِ،on it,فَيَقُولُ:So he says:(إِنَّكُمْ"Indeed, youمَّكِثُونَ﴾will remain." (1)
And among them are appointed angels to Heaven, and appointed angels to Hell; and the keeper of Hell is named Malak; he says the people of Hell: "Let your Lord decide for us against us." (2) means: to destroy us and to kill us; so they invoke Allah to kill them; because they are in torment that they cannot be patient on, so he says: "Indeed, you will remain." (1)
