One of the companions of Imam Ahmad entered upon him while he was sick, may Allah have mercy on him, and found him groaning from the illness. So he said to him, "O Abu Abdullah! You are groaning, and Tawus said: The angel writes even the groaning of the sick; because Allah says: 'What does he utter except with a watcher prepared?'"

So Abu Abdullah persevered and left the groaning; (2) because everything is written, ﴿ What he utters: (from) is extra for confirming the generality; that is, any saying you say; is written, but it may be rewarded upon it with good or evil, this is according to the saying that was said.

(2) When Saleh, son of Imam Ahmad, said that my father in the sickness of his death: "Bring the book of Abdullah Ibn Idris". And he said, "Read to me a narration of Layth: Tawus used to dislike groaning in the illness; and I did not hear my father groan until he died." This is found in the biography of the nobles (215/11).
