وَفِيAnd inهَذِهِthisالْآيَةِverseمِنْofصِفَاتِattributesاللَّهِGodتَعَالَىthe Exaltedعِدَّةًseveralصِفَاتٍqualitiesلَكِنَّbut
And in this verse, there are several attributes of God, but
الْمُؤَلِّفُthe authorسَاقَهَاpresented itلِإِثْبَاتِto proveصِفَةًone attributeواحِدَةًoneوَهِيَand it isالِاسْتِوَاءُthe rising aboveعَلَىonالْعَرْشِthe Throne
the author presented it to prove one attribute, which is the rising above the Throne.
وَأَهْلُAnd the peopleالسُّنَّةِof the Sunnahوَالجَمَاعَةِand the congregationيُؤْمِنُونَbelieveبَأَنَّthatاللَّهَGodتَعَالَىthe Exaltedمَسْتَوٍis aboveعَلَىonعَرْشِهِHis Throneاسْتِوَاءًa risingيَلِيقُthat is befittingبِجَلاَلهِto His Majestyوَلَاand does notيُمَاثِلُresembleاسْتِوَاءَthe risingالْمَخْلُوقِينَof creatures
And the people of the Sunnah and the congregation believe that God, the Exalted, is above His Throne in a rising that is befitting to His Majesty and does not resemble the rising of His creatures.
فَإِنْIfسَأَلْتَyou askمَاwhatمَعْنَىis the meaningالِاسْتِوَاءِof the risingعِندَهُمْto them?
If you ask: what is the meaning of the rising to them?
فَمَعْنَاهُIts meaning isالْعُلُوُّthe elevationوَالاِسْتِقْرَارُand stability
Its meaning is the elevation and stability.
وَقَدْAnd it hasوَرَدَbeen reportedعَنْfromالسَّلَفِthe predecessorsفِيinتَفْسِيرِهِits interpretationأَرْبَعَةٌfourمَعَانٍmeaningsالأَوَّلُthe firstعَلَاis highوَالثَّانِيand the secondارْتَفَعَis elevatedوَالثَّالِثُand the thirdصَعِدَis ascendedوَالرَّابِعُand the fourthاسْتَقَرَّis established
And it has been reported from the predecessors in its interpretation four meanings: the first is high, the second is elevated, the third is ascended, and the fourth is established.
لَكِنَّBut(عَلَا)(is high)و(ارْتَفَعَ)and (is elevated)و(صَعِدَ)and (is ascended)مَعْنَاهَاtheir meanings areوَاحِدٌoneوَأَمَّاAnd as for(اسْتَقَرَّ)؛(is established);فَهُوَit isيَخْتَلِفُdifferentعَنْهَاfrom them.
But (is high) and (is elevated) and (is ascended) have the same meanings, whereas (is established) is different.
وَدَلِيلُهُمْAnd their evidenceفِيinذَلِكَthat::أَنَّهَاis that theyفِيinجَمِيعِallمَوَارِدِهَاits instancesفِيinاللُّغَةِthe languageالْعَرَبِيَّةِArabicلَمْhas notتَأْتِcomeإِلَّاexceptلِهَذَاfor thisالمَعْنَىmeaningإِذَاifكَانَتْit wasمُتَعَدِّيَةًtransitiveبِـwith(عَلَى):(on):
And their evidence in that is that in all its instances in the Arabic language, it has not come except for this meaning if it was transitive with (on):
قَالَHe saidاللَّهُGodتَعَالَى:the Exalted:﴿فَإِذَا"Whenاسْتَوَيْتَyou rise aboveأَنْتَyouوَمَنْand whoeverمَعَكَwith youعَلَىonالْفُلْكِ)the Ark)
God, the Exalted said: "When you rise above the Ark with whoever is with you."
وَقَالَAnd He saidتَعَالَى:the Exalted:﴿وَجَعَلَ"And He madeلَكُمْfor youمِّنَofالْفُلْكِthe Arkوَالْأَنْعَامِand the animalsمَاwhatتَرْكَبُونَyou rideلِتَسْتَوُواto rise aboveعَلَىonظُهُورِهِ،its backs,ثُمَّthenتَذْكُرُواyou rememberنِعْمَةَthe favorرَبِّكُمْof your Lord,إِذَاwhenاسْتَوَيْتُمْyou rise aboveعَلَيْهِ)it)
And He said: "And He made for you of the Ark and the animals what you ride to rise above their backs, then you remember the favor of your Lord when you rise above it."
وَفَسَّرَهُAnd explained itأَهْلُthe peopleالتَّعْطِيلِof negationبَأَنَّby saying thatالْمُرَادَthe intended meaningبِهِwith itالِاسْتِلَاءَ،is the seizing,وَقَالُوا:and they said:مَعْنَى:the meaning is:﴿ثُمَّ"Thenاسْتَوَى(He rose above)عَلَىonالْعَرْشِ﴾the Throne"::
And the people of negation explained it by saying that the intended meaning with it is the seizing, and they said: the meaning is: "Then He rose above the Throne."
وَاسْتَدَلُّواAnd they used as evidenceلِتَحْرِيفِهِمfor their distortionهَذَاthisبِدَلِيلٍwith evidenceمُوْجِبٍmandatingوَبِدَلِيلٍand with evidenceسَالِبٍ:negating:
And they used as evidence for their distortion this with evidence mandating and with evidence negating:
