فَـدَخَلَThen enteredالنَّاسُthe peopleفَـقَالُواand they saidأَنتَYou areعِيسَىJesusقَالَHe saidلَسْتَI am notعِيسَىJesus
Then the people entered and said: 'You are Jesus.' He said: 'I am not Jesus.'
فَـقَالُواAnd they saidأَنتَYou areهُوَhim!
And they said: 'You are him!'
لَـأَنَّBecauseاللَّهَAllahتَعَالَىthe Exaltedأَلْقَىcastعَلَيْهِupon him،شَبَهَهُhis likenessفَقُتِلَand killedهَـذَاthisالرَّجُلُmanالَّذِيwhoكَانَwasيُرِيدُwantingأَنْtoيَقْتُلَkillعِيسَىJesusابْنَson ofمَرْيَمَMary؛فَكَانَSo it wasمَكْرَهُhis deceitful planعَائِدًاreturnedعَلَيْهِupon him
Because Allah, the Exalted, cast his likeness upon him, so this man who wanted to kill Jesus son of Mary was killed; thus, his plan turned back upon him.
﴿(وَمَكَرُواAnd they plannedوَمَكَّرَand Allah plannedاللَّهُAllahوَاللَّهُand Allahخَيْرُis the bestالْمَكِرِينَof the planners
And they planned, and Allah planned, and Allah is the best of planners.
الْآيَةُThe verseالثَّالِثَةُthe thirdفِيinالْمَكْرِdeceitأَيْضًاalsoوَهِيَand it isقَوْلُهُHis saying﴿(وَمَكَرُواAnd they plannedمَكْرًاa plotوَمَكَرْنَاand we plannedمَكْرًاa plotوَهُمْwhile theyلَاdo notيَشْعُرُونَfeel
The third verse in deceit is His saying: 'And they planned a plot, and We planned a plot while they did not feel.'
﴾)[النَّمْلِ:[An-Naml:٥٠50]

هَـذَاThisفِيinقَوْمٍa peopleصَالِحٍSalihكَانَwasفِيinالْمَدِينَةِthe cityالَّتِيthatكَانَwasيَدْعُوcallingالنَّاسَthe peopleفِيَهَاthereinإِلَىtoاللَّهِAllahتِسْعَةٌnineرَهْطٍmen-أَيْ- Meaning:أَنْفَارٌpeople-﴿(تَقَاسَمُواThey dividedبِاللَّهِby Allahلَنُبَيْتَنَّهُwe will kill himوَأَهْلَهُمُand his family
This refers to a people who were in a city where Salih was calling the people to Allah, nine men - meaning: groups - said: 'By Allah, we will kill him and his family.'

؛يَعْنِيIt means:لِنَكْتُلَنَّهُthat we will kill himبِاللَّيْلِat night،ثُمَّthenلَنَقُولَنَّwe will sayلِوَلِيَّهِto his relativesمَاwhatشَهِدْنَاwe witnessedمَهْلِكَkillingأَهْلِهِof his familyوَإِنَّاAnd indeed weلَصَادِقُونَare truthful﴾)[النَّمْلِ:[An-Naml:٤٩49]
It means that they killed him at night; so what they saw. But they plotted and Allah plotted! It was said: When they went out to kill him, they took refuge in a cave waiting for night; the cave closed upon them, and they perished, while Salih and his family were untouched. So Allah said: 'And they plotted a plot, and We plotted a plot.'
وَهُوَAnd Heمَكْرٌis a plotting:فِيinالْمَوْضِعَيْنِthe two placesمُنْكَرٌdenotingلِلْتَّعْظِيمِfor glorification؛أَيْthat is:مَكَرُواthey plottedمَكْرًاa great plotعَظِيمًاgreat،وَمَكَرْنَاand We plottedمَكْرًاa plotأَعْظَمَgreater
And it is a plotting in the two places denoting for glorification; that is: 'they plotted a great plot, and We plotted a greater plot.'
الْآيَةُThe verseالرَّابِعَةُthe fourthفِيinالْكَيْدِdeceitوَهِيَand it isقَوْلُهُHis saying﴿(إِنَّهُمْIndeed, theyيَكِيدُونَare plottingكَيْدًاa plotوَأَكِيدُand I plotكَيْدًاa plot[الطَّارِقِ[At-Tariq:١٥15-١٦16]
The fourth verse in deceit is His saying: 'Indeed, they are plotting a plot, and I am plotting a plot.' [At-Tariq: 15-16]
إنَّهُمْIndeed, they؛أَيْThat is:كُفَّارٌdisbelieversمَكَّةَof Meccaيَكِيدُونَare plottingلِلرَّسُولِagainst the messengerوَكَيْدًاa plotلَاnotنَظِيرٌsimilarلَهُto himفِيinالتَّنْفِيرِdeterringمِنْهُfrom himوَمِنْand fromدَعْوَتِهِhis callوَلَـكِنَّbutاللَّهَAllahتَعَالَىthe Exaltedيَكِيدُplotsكَيْدًاa plotأَعْظَمَgreaterوَأَشَدُّand harsher
Indeed, they - meaning the disbelievers of Mecca - are plotting against the messenger a plot unlike any one to deter him and his call; but Allah, the Exalted, plots a greater and harsher plot.
