خَلَقْتُهُHis creationسُبْحَاتٍthe splendorوَجْهَهُof His faceيَعْنِيmeansبَهَائِهِHis gloryوَعَظَمَتِهِand His greatnessوَجَلاَلِهِand His majestyوَنُورِهِand His light
The creation of His face means His glory, greatness, majesty, and light.
مَاWhatانْتَهَىhas endedإِلَيْهِto itبَصَرَهُHis sightمِنْfromخَلْقِهِHis creationوَبَصَرِهِand His sightيَنْتَهِيreachesإِلَىtoكُلِّ شَيْءٍeverything
What His sight has reached from His creation, and His sight reaches everything.
وَعَلَيْهِAnd thereforeفَلَوْifكَشَفَHe uncoversهَذَاthisالْحِجَابَveilحِجَابٌveilالنُّورِof lightعَنِfromوَجْهَهُHis faceلَاحْتَرَقَتْeverything would burnكُلُّ شَيْءٍeverything
And therefore, if He uncovers this veil of light from His face, everything would burn.
لِهَذَاFor this reasonنَقُولُwe sayهَذَاthisالْوَجْهَfaceوَجْهٌfaceعَظِيمٌis greatلَاnotيُمْكِنُcanأَبَدًاeverأَنْtoيُمَاثِلَresembleأَوْجُهَthe facesالْمَخْلُوقَاتِof the creatures
For this reason, we say that this face is great and can never resemble the faces of the creatures.
وَبِنَاءًAnd basedعَلَىonهَذَاthisنَقُولُwe sayمِنْfromعَقِيدَتِنَاour creedأَنْthatلِلَّهِfor Allahوَجْهًاa faceحَقِيقَةًin realityوَنَأْخُذُهُand we take itمِنْfromقَوْلِهِHis wordsتَعَالَىthe ExaltedوَيَبْقَىAnd will remainوَجْهُthe Faceرَبِّكَof your Lordذُوthe possessor ofالْجَلَالِmajestyوَالْإِكْرَامِand honor
And based on this, we say that from our creed is that Allah has a face in reality, and we take it from His words, the Exalted: ‘And will remain the face of your Lord, the possessor of majesty and honor.’
وَنَقُولُAnd we sayبِأَنَّthatهَذَاthisالْوَجْهُfaceلَاnotيُمَاثِلُresembleأَوْجُهَthe facesالْمَخْلُوقِينَof the created beingsلِقَوْلِهِfor His wordsتَعَالَىthe ExaltedلَيْسَThere is notكَمِثْلِهِlike Himشَيْءٌanything
And we say that this face does not resemble the faces of created beings, for His words, the Exalted: 'There is not anything like Him.'
وَنَجْهَلُAnd we ignoreكَيْفِيَّةَhowهَذَاthisالْوَجْهُfaceلِقَوْلِهِfor His wordsتَعَالَىthe Exaltedوَلَاand notيُحِيطُونَthey encompassبِهِwith itعِلْمًاknowledge
And we ignore how this face is, for His words, the Exalted: 'And they do not encompass it with knowledge.'
فَإِنَّIfحَاوَلَsomeone triesأَحَدٌoneأَنْtoيَتَصَوَّرَimagineهَذِهِthisالْكَيْفِيَّةَhowبِقَلْبِهِwith his heartأوorأَنْtoيَتَحَدَّثَspeakعَنْهَاabout itبِلِسَانِهِwith his tongueقُلْنَاwe sayإِنَّكَthat youمُبْتَدِعٌare innovatingضَالٌّmisguidedقَالِsayingعَلَىaboutاللَّهِAllahمَاwhatلَاnotتَعْلَمُknow
If someone tries to imagine how it is with his heart or to speak about it with his tongue, we say: 'You are an innovator, misguided, speaking about Allah what you do not know.'
وَقَدAnd He hasحَرَّمَforbiddenاللَّهُAllahعَلَيْنَاupon usأَنْtoنَقُولَsayعَلَيْهِupon Himمَاwhatلَاnotنَعْلَمُwe knowقَالَHe saidتَعَالَىthe ExaltedقُلْSayإِنَّمَاIndeedحَرَّمَhas forbiddenرَبُّthe Lordالْفَوَاحِشَof immoral actsمَاwhatظَهَرَhas appearedمِنْهَاof itوَمَاand whatبَطَنَhas been concealedوَالإِثْمَand the sinوَالْبَغْيَand oppressionبِغَيْرِwithoutالْحَقِّthe truthوَأَنْand toتُشْرِكُواbe associatedبِاللَّهِwith Allahمَاwhatلَمْnotيُنَزِّلhas sent downبِهِwith itسُلْطَانًاa proofوَأَنْand thatتَقُولُواyou sayعَلَىaboutاللَّهِAllahمَاwhatلَاnotتَعْلَمُونَyou know
And Allah has forbidden upon us to say about Him what we do not know; He said, the Exalted: 'Say: Indeed, your Lord has forbidden immoral acts, what has appeared of them and what has been concealed, and sin, and oppression without the truth, and to associate with Allah what He has not sent down with any proof, and to say about Allah what you do not know.'
وَقَالَAnd He saidتَعَالَىthe Exaltedوَلَاand notنَقُولُwe speakمَاwhatلَيْسَis notلَكَfor youبِهِwith itعِلْمٌknowledgeإِنَّIndeedالسَّمْعَthe hearingوَالْبَصَرَand sightوَالْفُؤَادَand the heartكُلُّallأُوْلَيْكَthoseكَانُواareعَنْهُabout Himمَسْئُولًاare responsible
And He said, the Exalted: 'And do not speak about what you do not have knowledge of; indeed, the hearing, the sight, and the heart, all of those are responsible about Him.'
