فَهَذَاSo thisدَلِيلٌis a proofوَاضِحٌclearعَلَىthatأَنَّهُit isلَاnoإِلَٰهَgodإِلَّاexceptاللَّهُAllahعَزَّ وَجَلَّthe Exalted and Glorious
So this is a clear proof that there is no god except Allah the Exalted and Glorious.
أَشْهَدُI bear witnessأَنَّthatلَاnoإِلَٰهَgodإِلَّاexceptاللَّهُAllahوَأَنْتُمْand youتَشْهَدُونَbear witnessأَنَّthatلَاnoإِلَٰهَgodإِلَّاexceptاللَّهُAllah
I bear witness that there is no god except Allah and you bear witness that there is no god except Allah.
هَذِهِThisالشَّهَادَةُtestimonyالْحَقُّ؛is the truth;إِذَاIfقَالَsomeone says;قَائِلٌa speaker::كَيْفَhowتُقَرُّونَهَاdo you affirm itمَعَwhileأَنَّthatاللَّهَAllahتَعَالَىٰthe Exaltedيُثْبِتُestablishesآلِهَةًgodsغَيْرَهُ؛other than Him;مِثْلَlikeقَوْلِهِHis saying::﴿(وَلَاand do notتَدْعُواinvokeمَعَwithاللَّهِAllah;إِلَهًاany other godآخَرَanother
This testimony is the truth; if someone says: how do you affirm it while Allah the Exalted establishes gods other than Him; like His saying: "And do not invoke with Allah another god" (Al-Qasas: 88)
وَمِثْلُAnd likeقَوْلِهِHis saying::﴿(وَمَنAnd whoeverيَدْعُواinvokesمَعَwithاللَّهِAllah;إِلَهًاto it;آخَرَanotherلَاnoبُرْهَانَproofلَهُfor himبِهَاby it;﴾)
And like His saying: "And whoever invokes with Allah another god, there is no proof for him by it" (Al-Mu’minun: 117)
وَمِثْلُAnd likeقَوْلِهِHis saying::﴿(فَمَاSo whatأَغْنَتْdid they benefitعَنْهُمْthemءَالِهَتُهُمْtheir godsالَّتِيthatيَدْعُونَthey invokeمِنْfromدُونِother thanاللَّهِAllahمِنْfromشَيْءٍanything"
And like His saying: "So what did their gods which they invoke other than Allah benefit them from anything" (Hud: 101),
وَمِثْلُAnd likeقَوْلِthe sayingإِبْرَاهِيمَ:of Ibrahim:أَئِفْكًاDo you wantوَآلِهَةًgodsدُونَother thanاللَّهِAllahتُرِيدُونَyou want?"
And like the saying of Ibrahim: "Do you want gods other than Allah?" (As-Saffat: 86)
إِلَىUp toغَيْرِother thanذَٰلِكَthatمِنْofالآيَاتِ؛the verses;كَيْفَhowتَجْمَعُونَdo you combineبَيْنَbetweenهَذَاthisوَبَيْنَand betweenالشَّهَادَةِthe testimonyبِأَنَّthatلَاnoإِلَٰهَgodإِلَّاexceptاللَّهِ؟Allah?
How do you combine between this and the testimony that there is no god except Allah?
فَالْجَوَابُThe answerأَنَّis thatأَلْوَهِيَّةُthe divinityمَاwhatسِوَىother thanاللَّهِAllahأَلْوَهِيَّةُthe divinityبَاطِلَةٌ،is false,مُجَرَّدَةٌmerelyتَسْمِيَّةٍ،a naming;وَإِنْand ifهِيَit isإِلَّاexceptأَسْمَاءُnamesسَمَّيْتُمُوهَاthat you namedأَنتُمْyouوandآبَاؤُكُمyour fathersمَاthatأَنزَلَHe revealedاللَّهُAllahبِهَاby it.مِنْfromسُلْطَانٍauthority﴾)
The answer is that the divinity of what is other than Allah is false, merely a naming; and if it is not except the names that you named you and your fathers, Allah did not send down regarding it any authority
فَأَلُوهِيَّتُهَاSo its divinityبَاطِلَةٌis falseوَهِيَand itوَإِنْand ifعُبِدَتْwere worshippedوَتَأَلَّهَتْand were invokedإِلَيْهَاto it;مَنْwhoضَلَّ؛went astray;فَإِنَّهَاthen itلَيْسَتْis notأَهْلًاworthyأَنْtoتُعْبَدَ؛be worshipped;فَهِيَSo itآلِهَةٌgods;مَعْبُودَةٌ،worshipped,لَكِنَّهَاbut theyآلِهَةٌgodsبَاطِلَةٌ،is false,وَذَٰلِكَand that isبِأَنَّbecauseاللَّهَAllahهُوَisالْحَقُّthe Truthوَأَنَّand thatمَاwhatيَدْعُونَthey invokeمِنْfromدُونِهِother than Himالْبَاطِلُis false
So its divinity is false and if it were worshipped and invoked by those who went astray; then it is not worthy to be worshipped; so it is worshipped gods, but they are false gods, and that is because Allah is the Truth and what they invoke other than Him is false.
وَهَذَانِAnd these twoالنَّوْعَانِtypesمِنْofأَنْوَاعِkindsالتَّوحِيدِof monotheismلَاare notيُجْحَدُهُمَاdeniedوَلَاand noيُنْكَرَهُمَاone deniesأَحَدٌanyoneمِنْofأَهْلِthe peopleالْقِبْلَةِof Qiblaالْمُنْتَسِبِينَwho associateإِلَىtoالإِسلامِ؛Islam;لِأَنَّbecauseاللَّهَAllahتَعَالَىٰthe Exaltedمُوَحِّدٌis Oneبِالرُّبُوبِيَةِin Rububiyyahوَالْأُلُوهِيَّةِ،and Uluhiyyah,لَـكِنَّbutحَصَلَتْsome of the peopleفِي مَاafter whatحَدَثَhappenedأَنَّthatمِنْsome ofالنَّاسِthe peopleمِنْfromادَّعَىٰclaimedأَلُوهِيَّةَthe divinityأَحَدٍof someoneمِنَofبَشَرٍ؛the humans;كَمَثَلِlike the extremeالرَّافِضَةِ؛of Rawaafid;مَثَلًا،for example,الَّذِينَthose whoيَقُولُونَsay,إِنَّIndeedعَلِيًّاAliإِلَهًا؛is a god;كَمَاasصَنَعَdidزَعِيمُهُمtheir leaderعَبْدُاللَّهِAbdullah;بْنَbinسَبَأٍ؛Saba;حَيْثُwhereجَاءَcameإِلَىtoعَلِيٍّAliبْنِbinأَبِيof AbuطَالِبٍTalib;رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُmay Allah be pleased with him;وَقَالَand he saidلَهُto him;أَنْتَYou areاللَّهَ!Allah!حَقًّا!truly!لَكِنَّButعَبْدُاللَّهِAbdullahبْنَbinسَبَأٍSaba
And these two types of monotheism are not denied by anyone from the people associated with Qibla to Islam; because Allah the Exalted is One in Rububiyyah and Uluhiyyah, but it happened later that some people claimed the divinity of someone from humans; like the extremists of Rawaafid, for example, who say: Indeed Ali is a god; as their leader Abdullah bin Saba came to Ali bin Abi Talib, may Allah be pleased with him, and said to him: You are Allah truly!
