العَذَابُthe torment
The torment.
وَفِيهاAnd in itمِنْfromالنَّاحِيَةِthe aspectالمَسْلَكِيَّةِbehavioralالتَّحْذِيرِthe warningمِنْagainstقَتْلِkillingالْمُؤْمِنِthe believerعَمْدًاdeliberately
And in it, there is a warning against killing a believer deliberately.
الْآيَةُThe verseالثَّانِيَةُthe second::قَوْلُهُHis saying::﴿﴿ذَلِكَThatبِأَنَّهُمْis because theyاتَّبَعُواfollowedمَاwhatأَسْخَطَhas angeredاللَّهَAllahوَكَرِهُواand they hatedرِضْوَانَهُHis pleasure
The second verse: His saying: "That is because they followed what has angered Allah and hated His pleasure." [Muhammad: 28]
ذَلِكَThat::المُشَارُmentionedإِلَيْهِto itمَاwhatسَبَقَprecededوَالَّذِيand whatسَبَقَprecededهُوَisقَوْلُهُHis sayingتَعَالَىGlorified be He﴿﴿فَكَيْفَSo howإِذَاifتَوَفَّتْهُمُthe angels take their soulsالْمَلَائِكَةُthe angelsيَضْرِبُونَstrikeوُجُوهَهُمْtheir facesوَأَدْبَارَهُمْand their backsذَلِكَThatبِأَنَّهُمْis because theyاتَّبَعُواfollowedمَاwhatأَسْخَطَhas angeredاللَّهَAllahوَكَرِهُواand they hatedرِضْوَانَهُHis pleasure﴾﴾[مُحَمَّدٌ[Muhammad::۲۷27--۲۸]28]
That refers to what has preceded, which is His saying, Glorified be He: "So how will it be when the angels take their souls, striking their faces and their backs? That is because they followed what has angered Allah and hated His pleasure." [Muhammad: 27-28]
يَعْنِيMeaning::فَكَيْفَSo howتَكُونُwill beحَالُهُمْtheir stateفِيinتِلْكَthatاللَّحَظَاتِmomentsإِذَاifتَوَفَّتْهُمُthe angels take their soulsالْمَلَائِكَةُthe angelsيَضْرِبُونَstrikeوُجُوهَهُمْtheir facesوَأَدْبَارَهُمْand their backsعِندَatالْمَوْتِdeath؟?
Meaning: So how will their state be at that moment if the angels take their souls, striking their faces and backs at the time of death?
وَذَلِكَAndذَلِكَthat::أَيْmeaningضَرْبُstrikeالْوُجُوهِthe facesوَالْأَدْبَارِand the backsبِأَنَّهُمْis because theyأَيْmeaningسَبَبٌreasonفَالْبَاءِso the letter 'ba'لِلْسَّبَبِيَّةِis for causation
And that, meaning the striking of faces and backs, is because they followed.
اتَّبَعُواfollowedمَاwhatأَسْخَطَhas angeredاللَّهَAllah؛;أَيْmeaningالَّذِيwhichأَسْخَطَhas angeredاللَّهَAllahفَصَارُواso they becameيَفْعَلُونَthey doكُلَّeverythingمَاwhatبِهِwith itسَخَطٌangerاللَّهَAllahعَزَّ وَجَلَّthe Mighty and Majesticمِنْofعَقِيدَةٍcreedأَوْorقَوْلٍstatementأَوْorفِعْلٍaction
They followed that which has angered Allah; meaning that they began to do everything that would anger Allah, whether it is a belief, a statement, or an action.
أَمَّاAs forمَاwhatفِيهِcontainsرِضَاpleasureاللَّهُof Allah؛;فَحَالُهُمْthen their situationفِيinقَوْلُهُHis saying﴿﴿وَكَرِهُواand they hatedرِضْوَانَهُHis pleasure؛;أَيْmeaningكَرِهُواthey hatedمَاwhatفِيهِis
As for what is pleasing to Allah; then their state regarding it is mentioned in His saying: "and they hated His pleasure."
فَصَارَتْSo it becameعَاقِبَتُهُمْtheir consequenceتِلْكَthatالْعَاقِبَةُthe consequenceالْوَخِيمَةُthe grievous؛;أَنَّهُمْthat theyعِندَatالْوَفَاةِthe time of deathتُضْرَبُstrikeالْمَلَائِكَةُthe angelsوُجُوهَهُمْtheir facesوَأَدْبَارَهُمْand their backs
So their consequence was that at the time of death, the angels struck their faces and their backs.
وفيInهَذِهِthisالْآيَةِverseمِنْofصِفَاتٍattributesاللَّهُAllahإِثْبَاتٌaffirmationالسَّخَطِof angerوَالرِّضَاand pleasure؛;وَسَبَقَand earlierالْكَلَامُthe speechعَلَىonصِفَةِattributeالرِّضَاthe pleasure،,وَأَمَّاAnd as forالسَّخَطِanger؛;
In this verse, there is an affirmation of the attributes of Allah: the affirmation of anger and pleasure.
وَسَبَقَAnd earlierالْكَلَامُthe speechعَلَىonصِفَةِattributeالرِّضَاthe pleasure،,وَأَمَّاAnd as forالسَّخَطِangerفَمَعْنَاهُits meaningقَرِيبٌis closeمِنْtoمَعْنَىthe meaningالْغَضَبِof wrath
And previously there has been speech on the attribute of pleasure, and as for anger; its meaning is close to the meaning of wrath.
