My appointment.

وَأَنتَAnd youإِذَاIfقُلْتَyou saidلِابْنِكَto your sonوَاللَّهُby Godإِنَّthatذَهَبْتَyou wentإِلَىtoالسُّوقِthe marketلَأَضْرِبَنَّكَI will strike youبِهَذَاwith thisالْعَصَاstickثُمَّthenذَهَبَhe wentإِلَىtoالسُّوقِthe marketفَلَمَّاand whenرَجَعَhe returnedضَرَبْتَهُI struck himبِيدَكَwith your handفَهَذَاthis punishmentالْعِقَابُthe punishmentأَهْوَنُis lighterعَلَىonابْنِكَyour sonفَإِذَاSo ifتَوَعَّدَthreatensاللَّهُGodعَزَّ وَجَلَّthe Almightyالْقَاتِلَthe killerبِهَذَاwith thisالْوَعِيدِthreatثُمَّthenعَفَاforgivesعَنْهُhimفَهَذَاthis isكَرَمٌgenerosity

And if you said to your son by God, if you go to the market, I will strike you with this stick, then he went to the market, and when he returned, you struck him with your hand; this punishment is lighter on your son. So if God, the Almighty, threatens the killer with this threat and then forgives him, then this is generosity.

وَلَكِنَّButهَذَاthisفِيinالْحَقِيقَةِtruthفِيهِthere isشَيْءٌsomethingمِنْofالنَّظَرِconsideration

But this actually has something of consideration.

لِأَنَّنَاBecause weنَقُولُsayإِنَّthatنَفِذَthe executionالْوَعِيدِof the threatفَالإِشْكَالُthen the problemبَاقٍremainsوَإِنْand ifلَمْnotيُنفَّذْis executedفَلَاthen thereفَائِدَةٌbenefitمِنْهُfrom it

Because we say that if the threat is executed, then the problem remains, and if it is not executed, then there is no benefit from it.

These are six aspects in the answer regarding the verse, and the closest of them is the fifth, then the fourth.

مَسْأَلَةٌIssue:إِذَاIfتَابَthe killer repentsالْقَاتِلُthe killerهَلْdoesيَسْتَحِقُّdeservesهَذَاthisالْوَعِيدُthreat

Issue: If the killer repents, does he deserve this threat?

الْجَوَابُThe answer:لَاNoيَسْتَحِقُّdeservesالْوَعِيدَthe threatبِالنَّصِّby the textالْقُرْآنِthe Qur'anلِقَوْلِهِfor His sayingتَعَالَىthe Most HighوَالَّذِينَAnd those whoلَاdo notيَدْعُونَinvokeمَعَwithاللَّهِAllahإِلَهًاa deityوَأَخَرَand anotherوَلَاand do notيَقْتُلُونَkillالنَّفْسَthe soulالَّتِيwhichحَرَّمَforbiddenاللَّهُAllahإِلَّاexceptبِالْحَقِّwith rightوَلَاand do notيَزْنُونَcommit adulteryوَمَنAnd whoeverيَفْعَلْdoesذَلِكَthatيَلْقَwill faceأَثَامًاgrave punishmentيُضَاعَفْis doubledلَهُfor himالْعَذَابَthe punishmentيَوْمَon the Dayالْقِيَامَةِof Resurrectionوَيَخْلُدْand will abideفِيهِin itمُهَانًاdisgracedإِلَّاexceptمَنwhoتَابَrepentsوَءَامَنَand believesوَعَمِلَand doesعَمَلًاa good deedصَالِحًاrighteousفَأُولَائِكَthose areيُبَدِّلُHe exchangesاللَّهُAllahسَيِّئَاتِهِمْtheir sinsحَسَنَاتٍwith good deeds

The answer: No, he does not deserve the threat according to the text of the Qur'an, for His saying, the Most High: "And those who do not invoke with Allah another deity, and do not kill the soul which Allah has forbidden except by right, and do not commit adultery. And whoever does that will face a grave punishment, which will be doubled for him on the Day of Resurrection and will abide in it disgraced, except for those who repent and believe and do righteous deeds; those are the ones Allah will exchange their sins with good deeds."

وَهَذَاAnd thisوَاضِحٌis clearأَنَّthatمَنْwhoتَابَrepentsحَتَّىevenمِنَofالْقَتْلِmurder؛فَإِنَّfor AllahاللَّهَAllahتَعَالَىthe Most Highيُبَدِّلُexchangesسَيِّئَاتِهِhis sinsحَسَنَاتٍgood deeds

And this is clear that whoever repents, even from murder, then Allah, the Most High, exchanges his sins with good deeds.

وَالْحَدِيثُAnd the hadithالصَّحِيحُthe authenticفِيinقِصَّةِthe storyالرَّجُلِthe manمِنْfromبَنِيBaniإِسْرَائِيلَIsrael,الَّذِيwhoقَتَلَkilledتِسْعًاninetyوَتِسْعِينَnineنَفْسًاsouls,فَأَلْقَىthen castاللَّهُGodفِيinنَفْسِهِhimselfالتَّوْبَةَrepentance,فَجَاءَhe cameإِلَىtoعَابِدٍa worshiper,فَقَالَand saidلَهُto him:إِنَّهُIndeedقَتَلَhe killedتِسْعًاninetyوَتِسْعِينَnineنَفْسًاsouls؛فَهَلْso is thereلَهُfor himمِنْanyتَوْبَةٍrepentance

And the authentic hadith is about the story of the man from Bani Israel who killed ninety-nine souls. Then Allah cast in himself the idea of repentance, so he came to a worshiper and said to him: "Indeed, I have killed ninety-nine souls; is there any repentance for me?"

فَالْعَابِدُSo the worshiperاسْتَعْظَمَwas amazedالأَمْرَthe matter,وَقَالَand saidلَيْسَthere is noلَكَfor youتَوْبَةٌrepentance!فَقَتَلَهُSo he killed himفَأَتَمَّand completedبِهِwith himالْمِئَةَthe hundred

So the worshiper was amazed at the matter, and said: "There is no repentance for you!" So he killed him, thus completing his hundred.
