وَلَاand notدَفْعَdefenseعَنْهُمْfor themالنَّقَمَthe calamities
And there is no defense for them against calamities!
وَهَذَاAnd thisأَمْرٌis a matterمَشْهُودٌwitnessedيَشْهَدُwitnessed byبِهِby itالْخَاصِthe specificوَالْعَامِand the generalوَالْعَامِيّand the commonerفِيinدُكَانِهِhis shopأوorسُوقِهِhis marketيَعْرِفُknowsأَنَّthatهَذِهِtheseالنِّعَمَblessingsمِنْofآثَارِthe effectsالرَّحْمَةِof mercy
And this is a witnessed matter witnessed by the specific and the general, and the commoner in his shop or market knows that these blessings are effects of mercy.
وَالْعَجِيبَAnd it is strangeأَنَّthatهَـؤُولَاءِtheseالْقَوْمَpeopleأَثْبَتُواhave establishedصِفَةَthe attributeالإرَادَةِof willعَنْthroughطَرِيقَthe wayالتَّخْصِيصِof specification؛;
And it is strange that these people have established the attribute of will through the way of specification;
قَالُواthey said:الإرَادَةُthe willثَابِتَةٌis establishedلِلَّهِfor Allahتَعَالَىthe Exaltedبِالسَّمْعِby hearsayوَالعَقْلِand reasonبِالسَّمْعِby hearsayوَاضِحٌis clearوَبِالعَقْلِand by reason؛;لِأَنَّbecauseالتَّخْصِيصَspecificationيَدُلُّindicatesعَلَىonالإرَادَةِthe will
They said: The will is established for Allah the Exalted by hearsay and reason; by hearsay is clear and by reason: because specification indicates the will.
وَمَعْنَىAnd the meaningالتَّخْصِيصِof specification؛;يَعْنِيmeans:تَخْصِيصَthe specificationالْمَخْلُوقَاتِof creaturesبِمَاby whatهِيَisعَلَيْهَاupon itيَدُلُّindicatesعَلَىonالإرَادَةِthe will
And the meaning of specification means: the specification of creatures by what they are upon indicates the will,
كَوْنَthe existenceهَذِهِthisالسَّمَاءَskyسَمَاءًsky؛;فَهَذِهِand thisالْأَرْضَthe earthأَرْضاًas ground؛;وَهَذِهِand theseالنُّجُومَthe starsوَهَذِهِand thisالشَّمْسَthe sun؛;هَذِهِtheseمُخْتَلِفَةٌare differentبِسَبَبِbecause ofالإرَادَةِwill؛;أَرَادَwantedاللَّهَAllahأَنْto beتَكُونَto beالسَّمَاءُthe skyسَمَاءًsky؛;فَكَانَتْso it was،,وَأَنْand thatتَكُونَto beالأَرْضُthe landأَرْضاًas land؛;فَكَانَتْso it was،,وَالنَّجْمُand the starنَجْمًاa star؛;فَكَانَso it was......وَهَكَذَاand so on
The existence of this sky as sky; and this earth as ground; and these stars and this sun; these are different because of the will; Allah wanted the sky to be sky; so it was, and that the earth to be land; so it was, and that the star to be a star; so it was... and so on.
قَالُواThey said:فَالْتَّخْصِيصُSo specificationيَدُلُّindicatesعَلَىonالإرَادَةِthe will؛;لِأَنَّهُbecauseلَوْلَاif it weren't forالإرَادَةُthe will؛;لَكَانَit would have beenالْكُلُّthe entireشَيْئًاa thingواحِدًاone
They said: So specification indicates the will; because if it weren't for the will; the entire thing would have been one!
نَقُولُWe sayلَهُمْto them:يَاOhسُبْحَانَGloryاللَّهِAllahالْعَظِيمُthe Great:هَذَاthisالدَّليلُthe evidenceعَلَىonالإرَادَةِthe willبِالنِّسْبَةِregardingلِدَلاَلَةِthe indicationالنِّعَمِof the blessingsعَلَىonالرَّحْمَةِmercyأَضْعَفُis weakerوَأَخْفَىand more hiddenمِنْthanدَلاَلَةِthe indicationالنِّعَمِof the blessingsعَلَىonالرَّحْمَةِmercy؛;لِأَنَّbecauseدَلاَلَةُthe indicationالنِّعَمِof the blessingsعَلَىonالرَّحْمَةِmercyيَسْتَوِيis equalفِيinعِلْمِهَاits knowledgeالْعَامِّthe generalوَالْخَاصِّand the specificوَدَلاَلَةُand the indicationالتَّخْصِيصِof specificationعَلَىonالإرَادَةِthe willلَاnotيَعْرِفُهَاis knownإِلَّاexceptالْخَاصِّthe specificمِنْfromطُلَّابِthe studentsالْعِلْمِof knowledge؛;فَكَيْفَso howتُنْكِرُونَdo you denyمَاwhatهُوَisأَجْلَىclearerوَتُثَبِّتُونَand affirmمَاwhatهُوَisأَخْفَىmore hidden؟?وَهَلْAnd isهَذَاthisإِلَّاexceptتَنَاقُضٌcontradictionمِنْكُمْfrom you
We say to them: Oh Glory be to Allah the Great! This evidence on the will regarding the indication of the blessings on mercy is weaker and more hidden than the indication of the blessings on mercy; because the indication of the blessings on mercy is equal in its knowledge to both the general and the specific, while the indication of specification on the will is known only to the specific among the students of knowledge; so how do you deny what is clearer and affirm what is more hidden?! And is this not a contradiction from you!?
