So appeared the effect of the saying of the Most High: "Your Lord has decreed upon Himself mercy."
وَفِيAnd inالْآيَةِthe verseمِنْofصِفَاتِattributesاللَّهِAllahالرُّبُوبِيَّةِthe Lordship،,وَالإِيجَابِand the obligation،,وَالرَّحْمَةِand the mercy
And in the verse are attributes of Allah’s Lordship, the obligation, and the mercy.
الْآيَةُThe verseالسَّادِسَةُthe sixth::قَوْلُهُHis saying::وَهُوَAnd He isالْغَفُورُthe Most Forgivingالرَّحِيمُthe Most Merciful
The verse is the sixth: "And He is the Most Forgiving, the Most Merciful."
اللَّهُAllahعَزَّThe ExaltedجَلَّHe GlorifiedهُوَHe isالْغَفُورُthe Most Forgivingالَّرَّحِيمُthe Most Merciful،,جَمَعَHe combinedعَزَّThe ExaltedجَلَّHe Glorifiedبَيْنَbetweenهَذَيْنِthese twoالِاسْمَيْنِnames
Allah, The Exalted, Glorified is the Most Forgiving, the Most Merciful; He combined these two names together.
لِأَنَّbecauseبِالْمَغْفِرَةِwith forgivenessسُقُوطَthe removalعُقُوبَةِof punishmentالذُّنُوبِthe sins،,وَبِالرَّحْمَةِand with mercyحُصُولَthe attainingالْمَطْلُوبِof the sought،,وَالْإِنْسَانُand manمُفْتَقِرٌis in needإِلَىtoهَذَاthisوَهَذَاand this؛;مُفْتَقِرٌin needإِلَىtoمَغْفِرَةٍforgivenessيَنْجُوto escapeآثَامَهُhis sins،,وَمُفْتَقِرٌand is in needإِلَىtoرَحْمَةٍmercyيَسْعَدُbe happyبِهَاwith itبِحُصُولِwith attainingمَطْلُوبَةٍhis sought
Because with forgiveness there is the removal of the punishment of sins, and with mercy, there is attaining what is sought; man is in need of this and this; he is in need of forgiveness to escape his sins, and he is in need of mercy to be happy with attaining what he seeks.
فَـSoالْغَفُورُthe Most Forgiving::صِيغَةٌa formمُبَالَغَةٌof exaggerationمَأْخُوذَةٌtakenمِنْfromالْغَفْرِforgiveness،,وَهُوَand it isالْسَّتْرُthe coveringوَالْوِقَايَةُthe protection؛;لِأَنَّهُbecause it isمَأْخُوذٌtakenمِنْfromالْمِغْفَرِthe helmet،,وَالْمِغْفَرُand the helmetشَيْءٌa thingيُوضَعُto be putعَلَىonالرَّأْسِthe headفِيinالْقِتَالِthe battleيُقَيِّprotectsمِنَfromالسُّهَامِthe arrows..
So the Most Forgiving: is a form of exaggeration taken from forgiveness, which is the covering and protection; because it is taken from the helmet, and the helmet is something placed on the head in battle that protects from the arrows.
وَهَذَاAnd thisالْمِغْفَرُthe helmetتَحْصُلُgainsبِهِwith itفَائِدَتَانtwo benefitsهُمَاareسَتْرٌcoveringالرَّأْسِthe headوَالْوِقَايَةُand the protection..
And the helmet brings two benefits: the covering of the head and the protection.
فَـSoالْغَفُورُthe Most Forgivingالَّذِيthe one whoيَسْتُرُcoversذُنُوبَthe sinsعِبَادِهِof His servants،,وَيُوقِيَهُمْand protects themآثَامَهَاtheir sins؛;بِالْعَفْوِby pardonعَنْهَاfrom them
So the Most Forgiving is the one who covers the sins of His servants and protects them from their sins; by pardon of them.

And it indicates this what has been confirmed in the authentic that Allah, The Exalted will be alone with His servant on the Day of Resurrection and He will question him about his sins; He says: "Did you do such and such? Did you do such and such?" until he confesses, then Allah The Exalted says to him: "I covered it for you in this world, and I will forgive it for you today."
