And of His mercy is what He mentioned by saying: "That indeed whoever among you has done evil in ignorance, then repented afterward, and set things right, then indeed He is Forgiving and Merciful."

This is part of His mercy.

And evil is an indefinite noun in the context of condition; so it encompasses all evil, even

And in summary; meaning with foolishness, and it is not intended by it the absence of knowledge, and foolishness is the absence of wisdom; because everyone who disobeys Allah, has indeed disobeyed Him in ignorance and foolishness and absence of wisdom.

And He did not conclude the verse with this; except that the repentant will attain forgiveness and mercy. This is of His mercy which He has prescribed upon Himself, and if not; it would be the requirement of justice that He would hold him accountable for his sin and recompense him for his righteous deeds.

So if a man sinned fifty days, then repented and did good for fifty days; the justice would be that we punish him for fifty days, and reward him for fifty days, but Allah, the Almighty, has prescribed mercy upon Himself; so all the fifty days that went from evil will be erased and will vanish in an hour, and add to that: then those who have repented, Allah will change their evil deeds into good deeds.
