شَيْءٍthingرَحْمَةًmercyوَعِلْمًاand knowledge
A thing of mercy and knowledge.
وَهَذِهِAnd thisهِىَisالرَّحْمَةُthe mercyالْعَامَّةُgeneralالَّتِيthatتَشْمَلُincludesجَمِيعَallالْمَخْلُوقَاتِcreaturesحَتَّىevenالْكَافِرِينَ؛the disbelievers;
And this is the general mercy that includes all creatures, even the disbelievers;
لِأَنَّbecauseاللَّهَAllahقَرَنَcoupledالرَّحْمَةَthe mercyهَذِهِthisمَعَwithالعِلْمِ؛knowledge;فَكُلَّSo everythingمَاthatبَلَغَهُreachedعِلْمُknowledgeاللَّهِ،of Allah,وَعِلْمُand the knowledgeاللَّهِof Allahبَالِغٌis encompassingلِكُلِّof everything;فَقَدْThenبَلَغَتْهُit has reached him;رَحْمَتُهُ؛His mercy;فَكَمَاSo just asيَعْلَمُhe knowsالْكَافِرَ؛the disbeliever;يَرْحَمُhe has mercy onالْكَافِرَthe disbelieverأَيْضًا.also.
Because Allah coupled this mercy with knowledge; so everything that has reached the knowledge of Allah, and the knowledge of Allah encompasses everything; His mercy has reached it; just as He knows the disbeliever; He has mercy on the disbeliever also.
لَكِنَّButرَحْمَتَهُHis mercyلِلْكَافِرِfor the disbelieverرَحْمَةٌis a mercyجَسَدِيَّةٌphysicalبَدَنِيَّةٌbodilyدُنْيَوِيَّةٌworldlyقَاصِرَةٌlimitedغَايَةٌextremelyالْقُصُورُdeficient;بِالنِّسْبَةِin comparisonلِلرَّحْمَةِto the mercyالْمُؤْمِنِ؛of the believer;فَالَّذِيfor the oneيُرْزَقُwho providesالْكَافِرَthe disbelieverهُوَisاللَّهُAllahالَّذِيwhoيُرْزِقُهُprovides himبِالطَّعَامِwith foodوَالشَّرَابِand drinkوَاللِّبَاسِand clothingوَالْمَسْكَنِand shelterوَالْمُنْكِحِand marriageوَغَيْرِand things other thanذَٰلِكَ.that.
But His mercy for the disbeliever is a limited physical worldly mercy, extremely deficient in comparison to the mercy of the believer; for the one who provides the disbeliever is Allah who provides him with food, drink, clothing, shelter, marriage and other things.
أَمَّاAs forالْمُؤْمِنُونَ؛the believers;فَرَحْمَتَهُمْthen their mercyرَحْمَةٌis a mercyأَخَصُّmore specificمِنْthanهَذِهِthis;وَأَعْظَمُ؛and greater;لِأَنَّهَاbecause it isرَحْمَةٌa mercyإِيمَانِيَّةٌof faithدِينِيَّةٌreligiousدُنْيَوِيَّةٌ.worldly.
As for the believers; then their mercy is a more specific and greater mercy; because it is a faith-based religious worldly mercy.
وَلِهَذَاAnd for thisتَجِدُyou findالْمُؤْمِنَthe believerأَحْسَنَbetterحَالًاconditionمِنَthanالْكَافِرِ،the disbeliever,حَتَّىevenفِيinأُمُورِmattersالدُّنْيَا؛of the world;لِأَنَّbecauseاللَّهَAllahيَقُولُ:says:﴿مَنْ﴿Whoeverعَمِلَdoesصَالِحًاrighteousمِّنofذَكَرٍmaleأَوْorأُنْثَىfemaleوَهُوَand he isمُؤْمِنٌa believer,فَلَنُحْيِيَنَّهُWe will surely make him liveحَيَاةًa lifeطَيِّبَةًgood.﴾[النحل: ٩٧]:﴾[An-Nahl: 97]:الْحَيَاةُThe lifeالطَّيِّبَةُgoodهَذِهِthisمَفْقُودَةٌis missingبِالنِّسْبَةِin comparisonلِلْكَافِرِينَ،to the disbelievers,حَيَاتُهُمْtheir lifeكَحَيَاةِis like the lifeالْبَهَائِمِ،of beasts,إِذَاifشَبِعُوا،they are full,رَوَثُوا،they defecate,وَإِذَاand ifلَمْthey do notيَشْبَعُوا؛get full;جَلَسُواthey sitيَصْرُخُونَscreaming!!هَكَذَاThis is howهَؤُلَاءِtheseالْكَافِرِينَ؛disbelievers;إِنْIfشَبِعُوا؛they are full;بَطَرُوا،they become ungrateful,وَإِلَّاand if notجَلَسُواthey sitيَصْرُخُونَscreamingوَلَاand do notيَسْتَفِيدُونَbenefitمِنْfromدُنْيَاهُمْ،their worldly life,لَكِنَّbutالْمُؤْمِنَthe believerإِنْifأَصَابَتْهُhe is afflictedضَرَاءً؛with harm;صَبَرَhe is patientوَاحْتَسَبَand he expectsالْأَجْرَthe rewardعَلَىfromاللَّهِAllahعَزَّ وَجَلَّ،the Exalted,وَإِنْand ifأَصَابَتْهُhe is afflictedسَرَّاءً؛with good;شَكَرَ؛he thanks;فَهُوَhe isفِيinخَيْرٍgoodnessفِيinهَذَاthisوَفِيand inهَذَاthisوَقَلْبُهُand his heartمَنْشَرِحٌis at easeمُطْمَئِنٌّand tranquil;مَاشٍhe walksمَعَwithالْقَضَاءِthe decreeوَالْقَدْرِ؛and destiny;لَاhe does notجَزَعَfretعِندَin the face ofالْبَلَاءِ،affliction,وَلَاand notبَطَرَbeing ungratefulعِندَatالنِّعْمَاءِ،good fortune,بَلْratherهُوَhe isمُتَوَازِنٌbalancedمُسْتَقِيمٌstraight,مُعْتَدِلٌ.moderate.
And for this, you find the believer in a better condition than the disbeliever, even in matters of the world; because Allah says: ﴿ Whoever does a righteous deed, whether male or female, and he is a believer, We will surely make him live a good life ﴾ [An-Nahl: 97]: The good life is missing in comparison to the disbelievers; their life is like the life of beasts, if they are full, they defecate, and if they do not get full; they sit shouting! This is how these disbelievers; if they are full; they become ungrateful, and if not, they sit screaming and do not benefit from their worldly life. But if a believer is afflicted with harm; he is patient and expects the reward from Allah the Exalted, and if he is afflicted with good; he thanks; he is in goodness in this and in this and his heart is at ease and tranquil; he walks with the decree and destiny; he does not fret in the face of affliction, and he is not ungrateful in times of good fortune, rather he is balanced, straight, and moderate.
