During the Eid al-Adha, he gave a sermon to the people saying: O people! Sacrifice! May Allah accept your sacrifices; for I am sacrificing Al-Ja’d ibn Dirham; because he claimed that Allah did not take Ibrahim as a friend, and did not speak to Musa in a manner of speech, then he descended and slaughtered him(1).
وَيَقولُAnd Ibn al-Qayyim saysابْنُIbnالْقَيِّمِal-Qayyimفِيin thisذَلِكَmatter (2):وَلِأَجْلِAnd for this reason,ذَٰلِكَthisضَحَىsacrificedبِجَعْدِby Al-Ja’d,خَالِدٌKhalidالْقَسْرِيِّal-Qasriيَوْمَon the day ofذَبَائِحِthe sacrificesالْقُرْبَانِ،of the qurbān,إِذْwhenقَالَhe saidإِبْرَاهِيمُIbrahimلَيْسَis notخَلِيلَهُhis friend;كَلَّاIndeed notوَلَاand notمُوسَىMusaالْكَلِيمُthe one who speaks directly;الدَّانِيthe close one.شَكَرَThankedالضَّحِيَّةَthe sacrificeكُلُّeveryصَاحِبِcompanion ofسُنَّةٍthe Sunnah for Allah;دَرَكَis reachingمِنْfromأَخِيmy brotherقُرْبَانِof the qurbān.
And Ibn al-Qayyim says in this matter (2): And for this reason, Khalid al-Qasri sacrificed Al-Ja’d on the day of the qurbān sacrifices when he said: Ibrahim is not his friend; indeed not Musa the one who speaks directly; thanked every companion of Sunnah for Allah; is reaching from my brother of the qurbān.
فَلِدُنْيَاThus in this worldالْآنَnowمَحَبَّةًloveوَوَدًّand affection;وَخِلَةً؛and friendship;فَالمَحَبَّةُthus loveوَالْوَدُّand affection is absolute,خَاصَّةًespeciallyبِإِبْرَاهِيمَwith Ibrahimوَمُحَمَّدٍ.and Muhammad.
Thus in this world, now, there is love and affection; thus love and affection is absolute, especially with Ibrahim and Muhammad.
فَلَدَيْنَاThus we haveوَالخِلَةَand friendship;وَيَجِبُand it is necessaryأَنْthatيَكُونَit isاعْتِمَادُنَاour relianceفِيinالْأُمُورِmattersالْغَيْبِيَّةِof the unseenعَلَىonالأَدِلَّةِthe evidenceالسَّمْعِيَّةِ،from the auditory;لَكِنbutلَاnoمَانِعٌobstacleمِنْfromأَنْthatنَسْتَدِلَّwe derive evidenceبِأَدِلَّةٍfrom evidenceعَقْلِيَّةٍ؛of intellect;لِلْإِلْزَامِto refuteمِنtoأَنْكَرَthe denierأَنْthatتَكُونَthere isالمَحَبَّةُloveثَابِتَةًis provenبِالأَدِلَّةِwith the evidence ofالعَقْلِيَّةِ؛of intellect;مِثْلَlikeالأَشَاعِرَةِ؛the Ash'arites;يَقُولُونَthey say:لَاnoيُمْكِنُit is possibleأَنْtoتُثْبَتَproveالمَحَبَّةُthe loveبَيْنَbetweenاللَّهِAllahوَبَيْنَand betweenالْعَبْدِthe servantأَبَدًا؛ever;لِأَنَّbecauseالْعَقْلَthe mindلَاdoes notيَدُلُّindicateعَلَيْهَا،toward it,وَكُلُّand everythingمَاthatلَاdoes notيَدُلُّindicateعَلَيْهِtoward itالْعَقْلُ؛the mind;فَإِنَّهُso it mustيَجِبُit is necessary toأَنْthatنُنَزِّهَwe freeاللَّهَAllahعَنْهُ.from it.
Thus, we have friendship; and it is necessary that our reliance in the unseen matters is on auditory evidence, but there is no obstacle from deriving evidence from intellect; to refute those who deny that love is proven by evidence of intellect; like the Ash'arites; they say: It cannot be proven that the love between Allah and the servant ever; because the mind does not indicate toward it, and everything that it does not indicate; thus we must free Allah from it.
