بَلِbutٱلْيَهُودُthe JewsهُمْtheyٱلَّذِينَwhoزَعَمُواclaimedأنَّthatٱللَّهَAllahخُلِقَwas createdمِنْfromكَذَاsuchوَمِنْand fromكَذَاsuchمِمَّاof whatيَقُولُونَthey sayمِنَofٱلْمَوَادِ؛the materials;

But it is the Jews who claimed that Allah was created from this and that of the materials they say;

فَأَنْزَلَSo He revealedٱللَّهَAllahهَـٰذِهِthisٱلسُّورَةَsurah(١).(1).

So Allah revealed this surah (1).

وَسَوَاءٌAnd whetherصَحَّit is trueٱلْسَّبَبُthe reasonلَمْor notيَصِحْ؛it is valid;

And whether the reason is true or not;

فَعَلَيْنَاwe mustإِذَاifسُئِلْنَاwe are askedأَيَّanyسُؤَالٍquestionعَنْaboutٱللَّهِAllahأَنَّthatنَقُولَ:we say:ٱللَّهَAllahأَحَدٌis OneٱللَّهُAllahٱلصَّمَدُ .the Eternal.

we must, if we are asked any question about Allah, say: Allah is One, Allah is the Eternal.

قَوْلُهُ:His saying:﴿قُلْSay,هُوَHe isٱللَّهُAllahأَحَدٌ :the One:وَهُوَand He isضَمِيرٌ،a pronoun,وَأَيْنَand whereمَرْجِعُهُ؟its reference?

His saying: ‘Say, He is Allah the One:’ and He is a pronoun, and where is its reference?

قِيلَ:It is said:إنَّthatمَرْجِعُهُits referenceٱلْمَسْئُولُthe one being askedعَنْهُ؛about it;كَأَنَّهُas if he saidيَقُولُ :He says:ٱلَّذِيthe one whoسَأَلْتُمُyou askedعَنْهُabout itٱللَّّهُ.Allah.

It is said: that its reference is the one being asked about; as if he says: the one who you asked about it is Allah.

وَقِيلَ:And it is said:هُوَHe isضَمِيرٌa pronounٱلشَّأْنُ،of the matter,وَٱللَّهُand Allahمُبْتَدَأٌis the subjectثَانٍ،the second,وَهُوَand He isأَحَدُكُمْOne of youخَبَرٌthe predicateٱلْمُبْتَدَأِof the subject,ٱلثَّانِي،the second,

And it is said: He is a pronoun of the matter, and Allah is the second subject, and He is One of you the predicate of the second subject.

وَعَلَىAnd according toٱلْوَجْهِthe aspectٱلْأَوَّلِthe firstتَكُونُit isوَهُوَand He isمُبْتَدَأً،the subject,ٱللَّهُ:Allah:خَبَرٌpredicateٱلْمُبْتَدَأِ،of the subject,أَحَدٌOne:خَبَرٌthe predicateثَانٍ.second.

And according to the first aspect, it is a subject, Allah: the predicate of the subject, One: the second predicate.

ٱللَّهُAllahهُوَHe isٱلْعِلْمُthe knowledgeعَلَىofذَاتِthe essenceٱللَّهِof Allahٱلْمُخْتَصُّspecificبِٱللَّهِ،to Allah,عَزَّ وَجَلَّ،the Mighty and Majestic,لَاNoيَتَّسِمَىis namedبِهِby it;

Allah is the knowledge of the essence of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, No one is named by it;

وَكُلُّAnd allمَاwhatيَأْتِيcomesبَعْدَهُafter itمِنْfromأَسْمَاءِthe namesٱللَّهِ؛of Allah;فَهُوَit isتَابِعٌfollowerلَهُ؛to it;إِلَّاexceptنَادِراً.rarely.

And all that comes after it of the names of Allah; it is a follower to it; except rarely.

وَمَعْنَىAnd the meaningٱللَّهِAllahٱلْإِلَٰهَ،the God,وَإِلَٰهٌand Godبِمَعْنَىin the sense ofمَأْلُوهٍ؛worshipped;أَيْ:that is:مَعْبُودٌ،worshipped,لَكِنَّbutحُذِفَتْwas omittedٱلْهَمْزَةُthe hamzaتَخْفِيفاًfor simplificationلِكَثْرَةِdue to the abundanceٱلْاِسْتِعْمَالِ؛of usage;كَمَاasفِيin(ٱلنَّاسِ)،(people),ٱلْجَهْمِيَّةِthe JahmiyyahبِرَقَمٍWith the number(٢٨)(28)

And the meaning of Allah is the God, and God in the sense of worshipped; that is: worshipped, but the hamza was omitted for simplification due to the abundance of usage; as in (the people), the Jahmiyyah with the number (28).

وَقَالَAnd saidٱلْحَافِظُthe narratorفِيinٱلْفَتْحِ»:the Al-Fath:أَخْرَجَهُIt was narratedٱلْبَيْهَقِيُّby Al-Bayhaqiبِسَنَدٍwith a chainجَيِّدٍgood(٣٥٦/١٣)،(356/13),وَصَحَّحَهُand authenticated itٱلْأَلْبَانِيُّby Al-Albaniفِيinصَحِيحٍthe authenticسُنَنِSunanٱلتُّرْمِذِيِّAl-Tirmidhi(٢٦٨).(268).

And said the narrator in Al-Fath: It was narrated by Al-Bayhaqi with a good chain (356/13), and Al-Albani authenticated it in the authentic Sunnah of Al-Tirmidhi (268).

(1) Narrated by Abu Sheikh in the book Al-Azamah (86), and in its chain is Yahya ibn Abdullah Al-Babali, who is weak as in Al-Taqreeb, and in it is that Abaān ibn Abu 'Ayash was left as in Al-Taqreeb', and the narration attributed to Al-Suyuti in the Durr Al-Muntathar (504/6) to Abu Bakr Al-Samarkandi in the virtues of Say: He is Allah the One.’
