وَرَآهاand saw herصَواحِبُها،her friends,وَهِيَand sheتُحَرِّكُis movingإِحْدَىone ofأَرْجُلِها،her legs,فَتَقَدَّمَتْthen one of them approachedإِحْداهُنَّone of themإِلَيْها،to her,وَصاحَتْand shouted,قائِلَةً:saying:«آه!"Oh!هاHereهِيَshe is«أُمُّ"Mother ofمازِنٍ»!Mazin!"ياOعَزِيزاتِي!my dear ones!فَهَلُمِّيSo comeأَيَّتُهاO you,الرَّفِيقَةُthe companionالْباسِلَةُ!»the brave!"

And her friends saw her, while she was moving one of her legs, then one of them approached her and shouted, saying: "Oh! Here she is, the mother of Mazin! O my dear ones! So come, O brave companion!"

فَنَهَضَتْAnd she got up«أُمُّMotherمازِنٍ»Mazinمِنْfromرَقْدَتِها.her sleep.

And she got up, 'Mother Mazin' from her sleep.

وَبَذَلَتْAnd she exertedجُهْدًاeffortشَدِيدًا،intensely,حَتَّىuntilاسْتَطاعَتْshe was ableأَنْtoتَقِفَstandعَلَىonأَقْدامِها،her feet,وَظَلَّتْAnd she continuedتُحَرِّكُmovingأَرْجُلَهاher legsلِتَتَفَقَّدَها.to check them.فَلَمَّاSo whenاطْمَأَنَّتْshe felt reassuredبِوُجُودِها،by her presence,حَمِدَتِshe praisedاللهَAllahعَلَىforالسَّلامَةِ،safety,وَقالَتْ:and she said:«شُكْرًاThank youللهِto Allahعَلَىforأَنَّنِيthat Iلَمْdid notأُصَبْsufferبِسُوءٍ،badly,وَلَمْand did notتُكْسَرْbreakلِيfor meقَدَمٌa footواحِدَةٌoneفِيinهَذِهِthisالْحَرْبِwarالطَّاحِنَةِ.»devastating war.”

And she exerted intense effort until she was able to stand on her feet, and she continued moving her legs to check them. So when she felt reassured by her presence, she praised Allah for her safety, and she said: “Thank you Allah for that I did not suffer badly, and my foot was not broken in this devastating war.”

ثُمَّthenسارَتْshe walkedمُسْتَنِدَةًleaningإِلَىtoإِحْدَىone ofرَفِيقاتِها،her companions,وَماand she did notزالَتْstopتَتَوَكَّأُleaningعَلَيْهاon herحَتَّىuntilوَصَلَتْshe arrivedإِلَىtoقاعَةِthe hall ofالاجْتِماعِ،meeting,فَرَأَتْand she sawجَمْهَرَةًa crowdمِنَofالنِّمالِantsتَتَحَدَّثُtalksوَتُناقِشُand discussesمُناقَشاتٍdiscussionsحَادَّةً.intense.

Then she walked, leaning on one of her companions, and she kept leaning on her until she reached the meeting hall, where she saw a crowd of ants talking and discussing intense discussions.

وَسَمِعَتْand heardإِحْداهُنَّone of themتَقُولُsayingهَلْdoوَضَعْتُنَّyou putحارِساتٍguardsعِنْدَatالسِّياجِthe fenceقَبْلَbeforeكُلِّeverythingشَيْءٍthing

And one of them said: "Did you put guards at the fence before anything else?"

فَأَجابَتْهاSo she answered herنَمْلَةٌan antأُخْرَىanotherلَمْdid notيَفُتْناmiss usشَيْءٌanythingمِنْfromذَلِكَthatبِلا رَيْبٍwithout a doubtفَقَدْIndeedوَقَفْناwe stoodجَماعَةًa groupمِنَofالْحارِساتِthe guardsفِيinالْجَبْهَةِthe frontالأُخْرَىthe otherوَإِنِّيAnd Iجِدُّindeedواثِقَةٍsureمِنْthatأَنَّthatهَذِهِthisالْمَأْساةَtragedyالْمُفجِّعَةَtragicلَنْwill notتَتَكَرَّرَrepeatبَعْدَafterالْيَوْمِtoday.

So another ant answered her: "We have missed nothing from that — without a doubt — for we have indeed stood as a group of guards at the other front, and I am indeed sure that this tragic tragedy will not be repeated after today."

فَقالَتْThen she saidنَمْلَةٌan antثالِثَةٌthirdلَقَدْIndeedجاءَتْcameبِنْتُthe daughter ofالشَّيْصَبانِthe Shayşbanسُعِدَmay you have a happyمَساؤُكِeveningأَيَّتُهاOالأُخْتُsisterالْعَزِيزَةُdearخَبِّرِيناtell usماذاwhatتَحْمِلِينَyou carryإِنِّيIndeed Iأَراكِsee youتَحْمِلِينَyou carryطِفْلًاa child

Then a third ant said: "Indeed, the daughter of Shayşban has come, may you have a happy evening, dear sister. Tell us what you are carrying? I see you are carrying a child!"

ياOاللَّهِGodلَقَدْSurelyحَسِبْناكِwe thought of youفِيinعِدادِthe number ofالْهَلْكَىthe doomedأَيَّتُهاO (feminine)الرَّفِيقَةُthe companionالْكَرِيمَةُthe honorable

O God! Surely we thought about you as among the doomed, O honorable companion!

فَقالَتْShe said«بِنْتُ الشَّيْصَبانِ»‘the daughter of the Shaysban’بَعْدَafterأَنْthatوَضَعَتْshe placedطِفْلَهاher babyأَمامَهُنَّin front of themأَسْعَدَMay (God) make happyاللهُGodمَساءَكُنَّyour eveningياOعَزِيزاتِيmy dear onesأَلاDo you notتَرَيْنَsee?أَنَّنِيthat Iلَمْdid notأُضِعْwasteوَقْتِيmy timeعَبَثًاin vain?فَقَدِIndeed, Iانْسَلَلْتُslipped awayفِيinأَثْناءِduringالْمَعْرَكَةِthe battleوَخَبَّأْتُهُنَّand I hid themفِيinذَلِكَthatالثَّقْبِholeالأَمِينِsafe, secureالَّذِيwhichفِيinجِذْعِtrunkشَجَرَةِtreeالْبُرْقُوقِthe plum

She said, ‘the daughter of the Shaysban’ after she placed her baby in front of them: ‘May God make your evening happy, O my dear ones! Do you not see that I did not waste my time in vain? Indeed, I slipped away during the battle and hid them in that safe hole in the trunk of the plum tree.’

فَقُلْنَSo we saidلَهاto herأَيَّWhatشَيْءٍthingخَبَّأْتِyou hidفِيinجِذْعِthe trunkالْبُرْقُوقَةِof the apricotياOبِنْتَdaughterالشَّيْصَبانِof the Shayban

So we said to her: 'What thing have you hidden in the trunk of the apricot, O daughter of the Shayban?'

فقالتshe saidمزهوةًproudlyفخورةًgloriouslyلقدindeedخبأتI hidالأطفالthe childrenالأعزاءthe dear onesفقدsoانسللتI sneakedإلىtoواديناour valleyخمساfiveمراتٍtimesوحملتand I carriedفيinكلٍeachمرةٍtimeطفلاa childوهاand hereهوisذاthisأحدone ofالأطفالthe childrenفتعالينso comeمعيwith meلنحضرlet us bringالباقينthe others

She said proudly: 'Indeed, I have hidden the dear children! So I sneaked to our valley five times, and I carried a child each time, and here is one of the children! So come with me, let us bring the others.'

فارْتَفَعَتْroseأَصْواتُvoicesالثَّناءِpraiseوالإِعْجابِand admirationبِهاfor herمِنْfromكُلِّeveryصَوْبٍdirectionوَقُلْنَand they saidلَهاto herياOhلَكِto youمِنْfromمُرْضِعٍnoble wet nurseنَبِيلَةٍnobleياOhبِنْتَdaughter ofالشَّيْصَبانِof the Shaybanفَلَكِso for youمِنَّاfrom usأَطْيَبُthe bestالشُّكْرِof gratitudeوَأَجَلُّand utmostالاحْتِرامِrespect

The voices of praise and admiration for her rose from every direction, and they said to her: "Oh, what a noble wet nurse you are, daughter of the Shayban! We give you our best thanks and utmost respect."

(25) The Speech of 'Busy Mother'

وَأَرادَتْAnd she wanted«أُمُّ مازِنٍ»"Umm Mazin"أَنْtoتَتَعَرَّفَget acquaintedعَدَدَthe number ofالْقَتْلَى،the victims,فاقْتَرَحَتْso she suggestedعَلَىtoصَدِيقَتِهاher friend«أُمِّ نَوْبَةَ»"Umm Nawbah"أَنْtoتُنادِيَcall outالأَسْماءَ.the names.

And "Umm Mazin" wanted to get acquainted with the number of victims, so she suggested to her friend "Umm Nawbah" to call out the names.

وَلَمْAnd notتَكَدْyou almostتَفْعَلُ،doحَتَّىuntilظَهَرَappearedأَنَّthatعَدَدَthe number ofالْقَتْلَىthe deadقَدْhasفاقَsurpassedكُلَّeveryحُسْبانٍ.calculation.

And you have almost not done, until it appeared that the number of the dead has surpassed every calculation.
