بِسْمِIn the nameاللَّهِof Allahالرَّحْمَٰنِthe Most Graciousالرَّحِيمِthe Most Merciful
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
الْحَمْدُAll praiseلِلَّهِis due to AllahرَبِّLordالْعَالَمِينَ،of the worlds,
All praise is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds,
حَمْدًاpraiseكَثِيرًاabundantطَيِّبًاgoodمُبَارَكًاblessed
abundant, good, and blessed praise,
كَمَاasيُحِبُّlovesرَبُّنَاour Lordوَيَرْضَىٰ،and is pleased,
as our Lord loves and is pleased,
وَكَمَاand asيَنْبَغِيit befitsلِكَرَمِthe generosityوَجْهِهِof His Faceوَعِزِّand the majestyجَلَالِهِ،of His glory,
and as it befits the generosity of His Face and the majesty of His glory,
وَأَشْهَدُand I bear witnessأَنْthatلَاnoإِلَهَgodإِلَّاexceptاللَّهُAllah
and I bear witness that there is no god except Allah,
وَحْدَهُAloneلَاnoشَرِيكَpartnerلَهُ،to Him,
Alone without partner,
وَأَشْهَدُand I bear witnessأَنَّthatمُحَمَّدًاMuhammadعَبْدُهُis His slaveوَرَسُولُهُand His Messenger
and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and His Messenger,
صَلَّىmay Allah send blessingsاللَّهُAllahعَلَيْهِupon himوَسَلَّمَ.and grant him peace.
may Allah send blessings and peace upon him.
سَلَامٌPeaceعَلَيْكُمْbe upon youوَرَحْمَةُand the mercyاللَّهِof Allahوَبَرَكَاتُهُ.and His blessings.
Peace be upon you, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings.
أَمَّاAs forبَعْدُ،then,
As for what follows,
فَإِنَّكُمْindeed youسَأَلْتُمْhave askedعَنْaboutمَسَائِلَ،matters,
indeed you have asked about matters,
وَقَدْand indeedكَتَبْتُI have writtenفِيهَاregarding themمَاwhatيَسَّرَmade easyاللَّهُAllahتَعَالَى:the Most High:
and I have written regarding them what Allah the Most High has made easy:
أَمَّاAs forالْحَلْفُswearingبِغَيْرِby other thanاللَّهِ:Allah:
As for swearing by other than Allah:
فَقَدْindeedصَحَّتْhave been authentically reportedعَنِfromالنَّبِيِّthe Prophetصَلَّىmay Allah send blessingsاللَّهُAllahعَلَيْهِupon himوَسَلَّمَand grant him peaceالْأَحَادِيثُthe narrationsبِالنَّهْيِwith the prohibitionعَنْهُof itوَالتَّغْلِيظِand the strict warningفِيهِ.regarding it.
indeed, authentic narrations from the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, have prohibited it with strict warnings.
فَرَوَىSo narratedابْنُIbnعُمَرَUmarرَضِيَmay Allah be pleasedاللَّهُAllahعَنْهُمَاwith both of them
Ibn Umar, may Allah be pleased with both of them, narrated
أَنَّthatالنَّبِيَّthe Prophetصَلَّىmay Allah send blessingsاللَّهُAllahعَلَيْهِupon himوَسَلَّمَand grant him peaceسَمِعَheardعُمَرَUmar
that the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, heard Umar
وَهُوَwhile heيَحْلِفُwas swearingبِأَبِيهِby his fatherفَقَالَ:so he said:
swearing by his father, so he said:
«إِنَّ"IndeedاللَّهَAllahيَنْهَاكُمْforbids youأَنْthatتَحْلِفُواyou swearبِآبَائِكُمْ،by your fathers,
"Indeed, Allah forbids you from swearing by your fathers,
فَمَنْso whoeverكَانَisحَالِفًاswearingفَلْيَحْلِفْthen let him swearبِاللَّهِby Allahأَوْorلِيَصْمُتْ»let him remain silent"
so whoever is to swear, let him swear by Allah or remain silent."
أَخْرَجَهُCollected itالْبُخَارِيُّAl-Bukhari(١)(1)وَمُسْلِمٌand Muslim(٢)(2)فِيinالصَّحِيحَيْنِ.the two Sahihs.
