لَطَّخَهَا؟Did you smear it?
Did you smear it?
فَقَالَSo saidرَجُلٌ:a man:أَنَاI,يَاOرَسُولَMessenger ofاللَّهِ.Allah.
A man said: I, O Messenger of Allah.
قَالَ:He said:فَانْطَلِقْGoثُمَّthenرَجَعَ،return,
He said: Go then return,
فَقَالَ:and he said:يَاOرَسُولَMessenger ofاللَّهِAllah,لَمْI have notأَدَعْleftبِهَاin itوَثَنًاan idolإِلَّاexcept thatكَسَرْتُهُ،I broke it,
O Messenger of Allah, I left no idol in it except that I broke it,
وَلَاand notقَبْرًاa graveإِلَّاexcept thatسَوَّيْتُهُ،I leveled it,
and no grave except that I leveled it,
وَلَاand notصُورَةًan image/pictureإِلَّاexcept thatلَطَّخْتُهَا.I smeared it.
and no image except that I smeared it.
ثُمَّThenقَالَsaidرَسُولُMessenger ofاللَّهِAllahصَلَّىmay Allah bestow peaceاللَّهُAllahعَلَيْهِupon himوَسَلَّمَ:and grant him security:
Then the Messenger of Allah, may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him, said:
«مَنْ“Whoeverعَادَreturnsلِصَنْعَةِto makingشَيْءٍanythingمِنْofهَذَاthisفَقَدْthen indeedكَفَرَhe has disbelievedبِمَاin whatأُنْزِلَwas revealedعَلَىtoمُحَمَّدٍ»Muhammad”.
“Whoever returns to making anything of this, then indeed he has disbelieved in what was revealed to Muhammad.”
وَعَنْAnd on the authority ofجَابِرِJabirبْنِson ofعَبْدِAbdاللَّهِAllahأَنَّthatالنَّبِيَّthe Prophetصَلَّىmay Allah bestow peaceاللَّهُAllahعَلَيْهِupon himوَسَلَّمَand grant him securityنَهَىprohibitedأَنْthatيُبْنَىbe builtعَلَىuponالْقُبُورِ.the graves.
And on the authority of Jabir ibn Abdullah that the Prophet, may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him, prohibited that anything be built upon graves.
رَوَاهُNarrated itمُسْلِمٌMuslim(١)(1)فِيinصَحِيحِهِ.his Sahih.
Muslim (1) narrated it in his Sahih.
وَقَدْAnd indeedكَانَwasالنَّبِيُّthe Prophetصَلَّىmay Allah bestow peaceاللَّهُAllahعَلَيْهِupon himوَسَلَّمَand grant him securityأَوَّلاًinitiallyنَهَىprohibitedعَنْfromزِيَارَةِvisitingالْقُبُورِ،the graves,
And indeed the Prophet, may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him, had initially prohibited visiting graves,
ثُمَّthenإِنَّهُheأَذِنَgave permissionفِيinذَلِكَthatوَعَلَّمَهُمْand taught themمَاwhatيَقُولُونَ.they should say.
then he gave permission for that and taught them what they should say.
وَعَنْAnd on the authority ofبُرَيْدَةَBuraidahبْنِson ofالْحُصَيْبِAl-Husaibقَالَ:he said:
And on the authority of Buraidah ibn Al-Husaib, he said:
كَانَUsed toرَسُولُMessenger ofاللَّهِAllahصَلَّىmay Allah bestow peaceاللَّهُAllahعَلَيْهِupon himوَسَلَّمَand grant him securityيُعَلِّمُهُمْteach themإِذَاwhenخَرَجُواthey went outإِلَىtoالْمَقَابِرِthe graveyards
The Messenger of Allah, may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him, used to teach them when they went out to the graveyards
أَنْthatيَقُولَshould sayقَائِلُهُمْ:whoever speaks among them:
that whoever speaks among them should say:
«السَّلَامُ“Peaceعَلَيْكُمْbe upon youأَهْلَO people ofالدِّيَارِthe abodesمِنَfromالْمُؤْمِنِينَthe believersوَالْمُسْلِمِينَ،and the Muslims,
“Peace be upon you, O people of the abodes, from the believers and the Muslims,
وَإِنَّاand indeed weبِكُمْby youإِنْifشَاءَwillsاللَّهُAllahلَاحِقُونَ،will join [you],
and indeed we, if Allah wills, will join you,
نَسْأَلُwe askاللَّهَAllahلَنَاfor usوَلَكُمُand for youالْعَافِيَةَ»well-being”
we ask Allah for us and for you well-being.”
(٢)(2)وَكَانَAnd used toصَلَّىmay Allah bestow peaceاللَّهُAllahعَلَيْهِupon himوَسَلَّمَand grant him securityإِذَاwhenزَارَhe visitedأَهْلَthe people ofالْبَقِيعِAl-Baqiأَوْorغَيْرَهُother than it
(2) And the Prophet, may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him, used to, when he visited the people of Al-Baqi or others
