وَبِقَولِهِAnd with His sayingتَعَالَى:Most High:عَطَاءًa giftغَيْرَnotمَجْذُوذٍcut off
And with His saying, Most High: {A gift not cut off}.
أَيْ:That is:غَيْرَnotمَقْطُوعٍ.interrupted.
That is: not interrupted.
فَمَنSo whoeverقَالَ:says:إنَّهُthat itيَنْقَطِعُ،is interrupted,فَقَدْhasكَفَرَdisbelieved.
So whoever says: that it is interrupted, has disbelieved.
وَهَذَاAnd thisقَالَهُwas said byجَهْمٌ،Jahm,لِأَصْلِهِbecause of his beliefالَّذِيwhichاعْتَقَدَهُ،he held,وَهُوَ:and it is:امْتِناعُthe impossibilityوُجُودِof the existenceمَاof that whichيَتَنَاهَىhas an endمِنْofالْحَوَادِثِthe eventsكَمَاasبَسَطَexpandedالكَلَامَthe discussionعَلَيْهَاon itفِيinغَيْرِother thanهَذَاthisالمَوْضِعِplace.
And this was said by Jahm, because of his belief which he held, and it is: the impossibility of the existence of that which has an end among events as he expanded on this discussion in other than this place.
وَهُوَAnd it isعُمْدَةُthe main evidenceأَهْلِof the people ofالْكَلَامِdiscussionالَّذِينَwhoاسْتَدَلُّواused as proofعَلَىforحُدُوثِthe creation ofالأَجْسَامِthe bodiesوَحُدُوثِand the creation ofمَاthat whichلَمْnotيَخْلُbe freeمِنْofالْحَوَادِثِthe eventsبِهَاwith it.
And it is the main evidence of the people of discussion who used as proof for the creation of the bodies and the creation of that which is not free of events.
وَجَعَلُواAnd they madeذَٰلِكَthatعُمْدَتَهُمْtheir main pointفِيinحُدُوثِthe occurrence ofالعَالَمِ،the universe,فَرَأَىand Jahm sawالْجَهْمُ:that whatأَنْthe prevention ofمَاthe existence of whatيَمْنَعُpreventsمِنْfromوُجُودِthe existence ofمَاthat whichلَاis notيَتَنَاهَىboundlessبِمَنْعِهِby its preventionفِيinالْمُسْتَقْبَلِ،the future,كَمَاjust asيَمْنَعُهُit preventsفِيinالْمَاضِي،the past,
And they made that their main point in the occurrence of the universe, and Jahm saw that the prevention of the existence of what is boundless, prevents in the future just as it prevents in the past.
فَيَلْزَمُSo it followsأَنْthatيَكُونَthere beالْفِعْلُthe actionالدَّائِمُthat is continuousمُمْتَنِعًاimpossibleعَلَىforالرَّبِّthe Lordفِيinالْمُسْتَقْبَلِthe futureكَمَاasكَانَit wasمُمْتَنِعًاimpossibleعَلَيْهِfor Himفِيinالْمَاضِيthe past.
So it follows that there be the continuous action impossible for the Lord in the future as it was impossible for Him in the past.
وَأَبُوAnd Abuالْهُذَيْلِيِّal-Hudhailالْعَلاَّفِthe Weaverشَيْخُthe chiefالْمُعْتَزِلَةِof the Mu'tazilaوَافَقَagreedعَلَىonهَذَاthisالأَصْلِ،principle,لَكِنَّbutقَالَ:he said:هَذَاthisإِنَّمَاonlyيَقْتَضِيrequires
And Abu al-Hudhail, the chief of the Mu'tazila, agreed on this principle, but he said: this only requires.
