وَ قَالَ:And he said:"شهادَتُهُ"His statement- يَعْنِي- meansابْنَIbnالْقَيِّمِ -Al-Qayyim -بِأَنَّthatشَيْخَهُhis sheikhفِيinهَذِهِthisالْمَسْأَلَةِissueمُصَنَّفُهُhis famous workالْمَشْهُورِthe famousالَّذِيwhichلَمْdid notيَظْهَرْappearمِنْهُfrom itشَيْءٌanythingسِوَىexceptلِصَفَحَاتِfor the three pagesالثَّلاثِthe threeالْمُشَارِ إِلَيْهَاreferred toسَابِقًاearlierبِأَنَّهَاthat they areمَجْهُولَةٌunknownالنَّاسِخُthe copyistوَالتَّارِيخِ،and the date,مُفْتَقِرَةٌlackingلِلشُّرُوطِthe conditionsالْمُتَّبَعَةِadhered toفِيinمَنَاهِجِmethodologiesالبَحْثِof researchوَالتَّحْقِيقِ،and verification,وَمَعْلُومٌand it is knownعِندَamongأَهْلِthe people ofهَذَاthisالشَّأْنِfieldمَاwhatيَتَرَتَّبُfollowsعَلَى ذَٰلِكَfrom thatمِنَthe lack ofعَدَمِabsence ofالثُّبُوتِ"authenticity."
And he said: "His statement - meaning Ibn al-Qayyim - that his sheikh in this issue is his famous work, which did not appear from it anything except for the three pages referred to earlier that are unknown regarding the copyist and the date, lacking the conditions adhered to in the methodologies of research and verification, and it is known among the people of this field what follows from that regarding the absence of authenticity."
وَيُمْكِنُAnd it canالْجَوَابُbe answeredعَنْaboutهَذَاthisبِمَاwith whatيَلِي:follows:
And this can be answered as follows:
أَوَّلًا:Firstly:أَنَّهُthat itطَالَمَاas long asصَرَّحَit is statedفِيinهَذِهِthisالْقِطْعَةِpieceبِنِسْبَةٍof attributingالْكِتَابِthe bookلِشَيْخِto the Sheikhالإِسْلامِ،of Islam,فَلَاthen does notيَطْعَنْinvalidateفِيinذَٰلِكَthatجَهَالَةٌthe ignorance ofتَارِيخِthe date ofالنُّسْخَةِ،the manuscript,وَلَاnorجَهَالَةٌthe ignorance ofنَاسِخِهَا،its copyist,مُحَاوَلَةٌattemptingالاِسْتِنَادِto relyفِيonدَفْعِpushing backالثُّبُوتِthe authenticityإِلَىtoالشُّرُوطِthe conditionsالْمُتَّبَعَةِadhered toفِيinمَنَاهِجِmethodologiesالْبَحْثِof researchوَالتَّحْقِيقِ،and verification,بِنَاءًbasedعَلَىonجَهَالَةِthe ignorance ofالنَّاسِخِthe copyistوَتَارِيخِand the date ofالنُّسُخِ،the manuscripts,فَهَذَاthisغَيْرُnonمُسَلَّمٍ،admitted,حَيْثُas it is not knownلَمْit is notيُعْرَفْknownفِيinتِلْكَthoseالمَنَاهِجِmethodologiesوَالقَوَاعِدِand rulesأَنَّthatجَهَالَةَthe ignorance ofالنَّاسِخِ،the copyist,وَجَهَالَةَand the ignorance ofالتَّارِيخِthe dateلِلْنُّسْخَةِof the manuscriptمِمَّاof whichيَقْدَحُmight invalidateأَيُّanyمِنْهُمَاof themفِيinنِسْبَتِهَاits attributionلِلْمُؤَلِّفِهَاto its authorالْمُصَرَّحِ بِهِexplicitly statedفِيinصَدْرِthe preface ofالنُّسْخَةِ"(٢)the manuscript." Firstly: that as long as it is stated in this piece attributing the book to the Sheikh of Islam, then that does not invalidate the ignorance of the date of the manuscript, nor the ignorance of its copyist, attempting to rely on pushing back the authenticity to the conditions adhered to in the methodologies of research and verification, based on the ignorance of the copyist and the date of the manuscripts, this is not accepted, as it is not known in those methodologies and rules that the ignorance of the copyist, and the ignorance of the date of the manuscript, invalidates either of them in attributing it to its author explicitly stated in the preface of the manuscript."(2)
ثَانِيًا:Secondly:أَنَّنَاthat weلَوْif weجَعَلْنَاconsideredجَهَالَةَthe ignorance ofالنَّاسِخِthe copyistوَتَارِيخَand the date ofالنُّسُخِthe manuscriptsيَقْدَحَانِto invalidateفِيinالنِّسْبَةِthe attributionالمُصَرَّحِ بِهَاexplicitly statedلِلْمُؤَلِّفِto the authorلِتَرَتَّبَit would followعَلَى ذَٰلِكَfrom thatأَنْthatنَقْدَحَwe would invalidateفِيinنِسْبَةِthe attribution ofكَثِيرٍmanyمِمَّاof whichأَلَّاdid notيُوجَدْexistعَلَيْهَاon themاسْمٌthe name ofالنَّاسِخِ،the copyist,وَلَاnorتَارِيخٌthe dateالنُّسُخِ،of the manuscripts,كَمَاasيُعْرَفُis knownذَٰلِكَthatمِنْfromمُرَاجَعَةِthe review ofفَهَارِسِthe catalogs ofالنُّسُخِ،manuscripts,عَلَّى أَنَّهُalthoughقَدْthere hasتَوَفَّرَتْbeen a copyثَانِيَةٌsecondكَامِلَةٌcompleteلِلْكِتَابِof the bookوَأَثْبَتَتْand it provedفِيinآخِرِهَاits endاسْمَthe name ofالنَّاسِخِ،the copyist,وَمُقَارَنَتَهَاand its comparisonلَهَاto itبِأَصْلِهَا.to its original.
Secondly: if we were to consider the ignorance of the copyist and the date of the manuscripts as invalidating the stated attribution to the author, it would follow that we would invalidate the attribution of many works of manuscripts that did not have the name of the copyist or the date of the manuscripts, as is known from reviewing the catalogs of manuscripts, although there has been a second complete copy of the book and it proved at its end the name of the copyist and its comparison to its original.
ثَالِثًا:Thirdly:وَمِمَّاAnd whatيُؤَيِّدُsupportsصِحَّةَthe validity ofنِسْبَةِthe attribution ofهَذِهِthisالرِّسَالَةِmessageلِشَيْخِto the Sheikhالإِسْلامِof IslamابْنِIbnتَيْمِيَّةَTaimiyyah::مَاis whatتَضَمَّنَهُit containsمِنْofنُصُوصٍtextsوَإِحَالَاتٍ.and references.تَتَطَابَقُThey correspondمَعَwithالنُّقُولِthe transmissionsوَالْمُؤَلَّفَاتِand worksالَّتِيthatتُثَبِتُproveنِسْبَتَهَاits attributionلِشَيْخِto the Sheikhالإِسْلامِof Islamكَمَاasيَتَّضِحُit is clearذَٰلِكَthatمِنْfromمُرَاجَعَةِreviewingالنَّصِّthe textالْمُحَقَّقِverifiedوَتَوْثِيقِهِand documenting itوَالتَّعْلِيقِand commentingعَلَيْهِ"on it."
Thirdly: and what supports the validity of attributing this message to Sheikh al-Islam Ibn Taimiyyah is what it contains of texts and references. They correspond with the transmissions and works that prove its attribution to Sheikh al-Islam as it is clear from reviewing the verified text and documenting it and commenting on it." (3)
