When Henry contemplated the state of the other soldiers, he sometimes thought that they were all heroes, and it is certain that they are all better than what he might hope to be one day. But at other times he found them exactly as worried and hesitant as he is.

One morning, Henry was standing with his squad members, and everyone was whispering while one of them was telling the other again about the old rumors.

The sun was on the verge of rising when the large figure of the colonel appeared on his horse, and the platoon stood for a while that seemed long, until Henry's patience began to run out.

Finally, another man turned towards them on the back of his horse, so the nearby soldiers tried to eavesdrop on his conversation with the colonel.
وَبَعْدَAnd afterبِضْعِa fewدَقَائِقَminutes،,اسْتَدَارَturnedالرَّجُلُthe manالثَّانِيsecondبِجَوَادِهِwith his horseوَابْتَعَدَand moved away۔.
And after a few minutes, the second man turned with his horse and moved away.
وَفِيAnd inاللَّحْظَةِthe momentالتَّالِيَةِfollowing،,بَدَأَbeganالْجُنُودُthe soldiersفِيinالسَّيْرِmarchingوَسْطَamidstالظَّلَامِthe darkness۔.
And in the following moment, the soldiers began to march amidst the darkness.
بَدَتِAppearedالْكَتِيبَةُthe battalionفِيatذَلِكَthatالْوَقْتِtimeأَشْبَهَresemblingبِوَحْشٍa beastمُتَحَرِّكٍmovingذِيwithأَقْدَامٍmany feet۔.
The battalion appeared at that time resembling a moving beast with many feet.

The air was cold and filled with dew, and the grass, wet with dew, produced a rustling sound like silk whenever the soldiers stepped on it.
أَشْرَقَتِShoneالشَّمْسُthe sun،,وَرَأَىand sawهنريHenryرَتَلَيْنِtwo columnsطَوِيلَيْنِlongأَسْوَدَيْنِblackمُكْتَظَّيْنِcrowdedبِالْجُنُودِwith soldiers۔.
The sun shone, and Henry saw two long black columns crowded with soldiers.
اخْتَفَىDisappearedالرَّتَلَانِthe two columnsفَوْقَaboveتَلٍّa hillأَمَامَهُمْin front of themوَتَوَارَيَاand they hidعَنِfromالْأَنْظَارِsightفِيinالْغَابَاتِthe forestsخَلْفَهُمْbehind them۔.
The two columns disappeared above a hill in front of them, and they hid from sight in the forests behind them.

They were two lines of men walking to the battlefield, but they appeared like two serpents crawling from the depths of the night.

The river was not visible in view, and the soldiers continued their dispute about what the plans could be.
