The cold vanished little by little from the surface of the earth, and the dissipated mist revealed an army whose soldiers wear blue uniforms and they rest above the hills.

When the soldiers woke up, they were able to see more of the muddy paths and the river, a tall soldier went to wash his shirt, then returned running to spread news that he had heard.

The soldier said: "We will move tomorrow, we will move toward the upper river, then we will cross it and encircle them from behind."

Another soldier said in a loud voice: "I do not believe that, for I have prepared for movement eight times in the past two weeks, and we have not moved yet."

And while the men continued their discussion about what they were going to do the next day or not, a young soldier named Henry Fleming went to his cabin to be alone and think.

He was puzzled about the possibility of the battle breaking out soon, and that he would participate in it! It will be one of the most important events on the surface of the earth.

Henry dreamed throughout his life of battles and to become a hero, but he never thought that he would actually participate in the war.

There, in his homeland, he did not believe that the war was real, but thought that humans had become better off now, or at least more inclined towards peace than they had been in the past, and it was certain that they would not engage in the abyss of war. But a civil war was now blazing between the north and the south, and that was his opportunity to become a hero.

Henry wanted to join the ranks of the army many times, but his mother was dissuading him from that, she was providing him with a hundred reasons for the necessity of his presence in the farm more than in the field of battle.

And finally, when he became impatient with waiting, he went to the city and joined the army. And when he informed her of that, she said: "Let there be the will of the Lord, O Henry." Then she continued milking the cow, and added: "Beware, and take care of yourself. Do not think that you can defeat the entire army of the rebels at once; for you are but one man among many others."

She asked him to beware of the evildoers who speak ill of him or do other things that could cause her to feel shame from him, and she added: 'I don't know what I should also inform you about except not to ever abandon your duty because of me.'
