وَكَأَنَّهُAnd as if heكَانَwasخَلِيفَةًa successorلِنَمْرُودَto Nimrodمَلِكِkingبَابِلَof Babylon.
And as if he was a successor to Nimrod, king of Babylon.
وَكَانَAnd he wasيَغْضَبُgetting angryإِذَاifعَلِمَhe knewأَحَدًاsomeoneيَرَىsawفَوْقَهُabove himأَحَدًاanyone.
And he was getting angry if he knew someone saw anyone above him.
وَدَعَاAnd he calledالنَّاسَthe peopleإِلَىtoعِبَادَتِهِworshipping himوَالسُّجُودِand prostratingلَهُto him
And he called the people to worship him and prostrate to him.
وَأَطَاعَهُAnd obeyed himالنَّاسُthe people.
And the people obeyed him.
وَامْتَنَعَAnd refusedبَنُوthe childrenإِسْرَائِيلَof Israelلِأَنَّهُمْbecause theyيُؤْمِنُونَbelieveبِاَللَّهِin Godوَيُؤْمِنُونَand believeبِرُسُلِهِin His messengers
And the children of Israel refused because they believe in God and believe in His messengers.
وَاشْتَدَّAnd intensifiedغَضَبُthe angerفِرْعَوْنَof Pharaohعَلَىtowardsبَنِيthe childrenإِسْرَائِيلَof Israel.
And the anger of Pharaoh intensified towards the children of Israel.
ذَبْحُSlaughteringاَلْأَطْفَالِthe children
Slaughtering the children
وَذَهَبَAnd wentكَاهِنٌa priestقِبْطِيٌّCopticإِلَىtoفِرْعَوْنَPharaohوَقَالَand saidلَهُto him:
And a Coptic priest went to Pharaoh and said to him:
يُولَدُWill be bornمَوْلُودٌa male childفِيamongبَنِيthe childrenإِسْرَائِيلَof Israel,يَذْهَبُwill goمُلْكُكَyour kingdomعَلَىatيَدِهِhis hand.
A male child will be born among the children of Israel, your kingdom will go at his hand.
وَجُنَّAnd went madجُنُونُthe madnessفِرْعَوْنَof Pharaohوَأَمَرَand orderedالشُّرْطَةَthe policeأَنْtoيَذْبَحُواslaughterكُلَّeveryمَوْلُودٍnewborn maleيُولَدُthat is bornفِيamongبَنِيthe childrenإِسْرَائِيلَof Israel.
And Pharaoh went mad and ordered the police to slaughter every newborn male that is born among the children of Israel.
وَكَانَAnd he wasفِرْعَوْنُPharaohيَرَىseeingأَنَّهُthat heرَبُّis the lordالنَّاسِof the people,يَذْبَحُslaughteringمَنْwhoeverيَشَاءُhe wishesوَيَتْرُكُand leavingمَنْwhoeverيَشَاءُhe wishes.
And Pharaoh was seeing that he is the lord of the people, slaughtering whoever he wishes and leaving whoever he wishes.
كَصَاحِبِLike the ownerاَلْغَنَمِof sheep,يَذْبَحُslaughteringمِنْfromغَنَمِهِhis sheepمَاwhatيَشَاءُhe wishesوَيَتْرُكُand leavingمَاwhatيَشَاءُhe wishes.
Like the owner of sheep, slaughtering what he wishes from his sheep and leaving what he wishes.
وَانْتَشَرَتِAnd spread outالشُّرْطَةُthe policeفِيinمِصْرَEgyptيُفَتِّشُونَsearchingوَيَبْحَثُونَand looking,
And the police spread out in Egypt searching and looking.
فَإِذَاso ifعَلِمُواthey knewبِمَوْلُودٍof a newborn maleوُلِدَbornفِيamongبَنِيthe childrenإِسْرَائِيلَof Israel,أَخَذُوهُthey took himوَذَبَحُوهُand slaughtered himكَمَاlikeتُذْبَحُis slaughteredالنَّعْجَةُthe ewe.
So if they knew of a newborn male born among the children of Israel, they took him and slaughtered him like the ewe is slaughtered.
وَعَاشَتِAnd livedاَلْذِّئَابُthe wolvesفِيinاَلْغَابَةِthe forest,
And the wolves lived in the forest.
وَعَاشَتِand livedاَلْحَيَّاتُthe snakesوَالْعَقَارِبُand the scorpionsفِيinاَلْبَلَدِthe land,
And the snakes and the scorpions lived in the land.
وَلَمْand did notيَتَعَرَّضْinterfereلَهَاwith themأَحَدٌanyone.
And no one interfered with them.
