وَإِمَّاAnd eitherبَقَرَةٌa cowعَوَانٌagedصَفْرَاءُyellowفَاقِعٌintenseلَوْنُهَاits colorلَاnotتُثِيرُshe plowsالْأَرْضَthe earthوَلَكِنَّهَاand but itتَسْقِيwatersالْحَرْثَthe tillage.
And either a yellow cow, intense in its color, that does not plow the earth, but it waters the plowed land.
وَفَتَّشُواAnd they searchedوَعَلِمُواand they knewعَاقِبَةَthe consequenceهَذَاof thisالتَّنْقِيرِprobing.
And they searched, and they knew the consequence of this probing.
مَاWhatهِيَ؟is it?
What is it?
مَاWhatلَوْنُهَا؟is its color?
What is its color?
مَاWhatهِيَ!is it!وَتَعِبُواAnd they became tired.
What is it! And they became tired.
وَأَرَادَAnd willedاللَّهُAllahبِيَتِيمٍfor an orphanخَيْرًاgoodفَوَجَدُواso they foundهَذِهِthisالْبَقَرَةَcowالَّتِيwhichوَصَفَهَاdescribedاللَّهُAllahعِنْدَهُwith Himفَاشْتَرَوْهَاso they bought itبِثَمَنٍfor a priceغَالٍhighجِدًّاvery.
And Allah willed good for the orphan, so they found this cow which Allah described, so they bought it for a very high price.
فَذَبَحُوْهَاSo they slaughtered itوَمَاand almostكَادُواthey didيَفْعَلُونَnot do it.
So they slaughtered it, and they almost did not do it.
وَأَمَرَAnd orderedاللَّهُAllahأَنْthatيَضْرِبَhe strikesالْمَقْتُولَthe slainبِجُزْءٍwith a partمِنْofأَجْزَاءِthe partsالْبَقَرَةِof the cowفَيَحْيَاso he livesوَيُخْبِرَand informsبِاسْمِof the nameالْقَاتِلِof the killer.
And Allah ordered that he strikes the slain with a part of the cow, so he lives and informs of the name of the killer.
وَهَكَذَاAnd thusكَانَit was.
And thus it was.
١٣13الشَّرِيعَةُThe Law
13 - The Law
وَخَرَجَAnd came outبَنُوthe childrenإِسْرَائِيلَof Israelمِنْfromعَيْشِthe lifeالْبَهَائِمِof cattleإِلَىtoعَيْشِthe lifeالنَّاسِof people.
And the children of Israel came out from the life of cattle to the life of people.
وَصَارُواAnd they becameيَعِيشُونَlivingفِيinالْبَرِّيَّةِthe wildernessكَالْأَحْرَارِlike the freeالْأَشْرَافِthe noble.
And they became living in the wilderness like the free, the noble.
هُنَالِكَThereاِحْتَاجُواthey neededإِلَىtoشَرِيعَةٍa lawإِلَهِيَّةٍdivineتَحْكُمُthat rulesبَيْنَهُمْbetween themوَتُنِيرُand illuminatesلَهُمُfor themالسَّبِيلَthe path.
There they needed a divine law that rules between them and illuminates the path for them.
إِنَّIndeedالْإِنْسَانَmanلَاcannotيَسْتَطِيعُbe ableأَنْtoيَعِيشَliveكَإِنْسَانٍas a humanإِلَّاexceptبِشَرِيعَةٍwith a lawإِلَهِيَّةٍdivineوَبِنُورٍand with lightمِنْfromرَبِّهِhis Lord.
Indeed, man cannot live as a human except with a divine law, and with light from his Lord.
