خَمْسُFiveآيَاتٍsigns
Five signs
وَبَعَثَAnd sentاللَّهُAllahعَلَيْهِمْupon themآيَةًa signأُخْرَىanother
And Allah sent upon them another sign.
أَرْسَلَHe sentعَلَيْهِمُupon themالْأَمْطَارَ،the rains,فَاضَand overflowedالنِّيلُ.the Nile.
He sent upon them the rains, and the Nile overflowed.
وَأَمْطَرَتِAnd rainedالسَّمَاءُthe sky
And the sky rained
وَأَمْطَرَتْand rained
and rained
وَأَمْطَرَتْand rained
and rained
وَأَمْطَرَتْ!and rained!
and rained!
حَتَّىUntilغَرِقَتِdrownedالزُّرُوعُthe cropsوَالْحُقُولُ،and the fields,
Until the crops and the fields drowned,
وَتَلِفَتِand perishedالْحُبُوبُthe grainsوَالثِّمَارُ.and the fruits.
and the grains and the fruits perished.
وَعَادَAnd returnedالْمَطَرُthe rainعَلَيْهِمْupon themوَبَالًا.as a punishment.
And the rain returned upon them as a punishment.
وَبَيْنَمَاAnd whileهُمْtheyيَشْكُونَwere complainingقِلَّةَof the lackالْمَاءِof water
And while they were complaining of the lack of water,
إِذَاlo and beholdهُمْtheyيَشْكُونَwere complainingكَثْرَةَof the abundanceالْمِيَاهِ!of water!
lo and behold they were complaining of the abundance of water!
ثُمَّThenأَرْسَلَHe sentعَلَيْهِمُupon themالْجَرَادَ،the locusts,
Then He sent upon them the locusts,
يَأْكُلُeatingالزُّرُوعَthe cropsوَالْحُقُولَ،and the fields,
eating the crops and the fields,
وَيَقَعُand landingعَلَىonالْأَشْجَارِthe trees
and landing on the trees
فَلَاand leavingيَذَرُnoneمِنْهَاof themشَيْئًا!anything!
and leaving none of them anything!
وَعَجَزَتْAnd failedجُنُودُthe armiesفِرْعَوْنَof Pharaohوَشُرْطَتُهُand his policeعَنْtoقِتَالِfightجُنْدِthe armyاللَّهِ.of Allah.
And the armies of Pharaoh and his police failed to fight the army of Allah.
وَكَيْفَAnd howيُقَاتِلُونَهُcan they fight itوَلَاwhen notتَعْمَلُworkفِيهِin itالسُّيُوفُthe swords
And how can they fight it when swords do not work in it
وَلَاand notتَعْمَلُworkفِيهِin itالسِّهَامُ؟the arrows?
nor do arrows work in it?
هُنَالِكَThereعَلِمَknewأَهْلُthe peopleمِصْرَof Egyptضِعْفَthe weaknessفِرْعَوْنَof Pharaoh
There the people of Egypt knew the weakness of Pharaoh
وَعَجَزَand the inabilityهَامَانَ،of Haman,وَقِلَّةَand the lackحِيلَةِof resourcefulnessالشُّرْطَةِ.of the police.
and the inability of Haman, and the lack of resourcefulness of the police.
وَلَكِنَّهُمْBut theyلَمْdid notيَعْتَبِرُوا!take heed!
But they did not take heed!
وَلَكِنَّهُمْBut theyلَمْdid notيَتَنَبَّهُوا!wake up!
But they did not wake up!
فَبَعَثَSo sentاللَّهُAllahعَلَيْهِمْupon themجُنْدًاan armyآخَرَ،another,ذَلِكَthatهُوَisالْقَمْلُ.the lice.
So Allah sent upon them another army, that is the lice.
وَتَسَلَّطَAnd gained dominionعَلَيْهِمُover themالْقَمْلُ،the lice,فَالْعِيَاذُso seek refugeبِاللَّهِ!in Allah!
And the lice gained dominion over them, so seek refuge in Allah!
