قَالَHe saidعَسَى"Perhapsرَبُّكُمْyour LordأَنْthatيُهْلِكَHe will destroyعَدُوَّenemyكُمْyourوَيَسْتَخْلِفَكُمْand make you successorsفِيinالْأَرْضِthe earthفَيَنْظُرَso He may observeكَيْفَhowتَعْمَلُونَyou will do."
He said, "Perhaps your Lord will destroy your enemy and make you successors in the earth and He will observe how you will do."
وَقَالَAnd saidمُوسَىMosesيَاOقَوْمِmy peopleإِنْifكُنْتُمْyou areآمَنْتُمْbelievingبِاللَّهِin Allahفَعَلَيْهِthen upon Himتَوَكَّلُواrelyإِنْifكُنْتُمْyou areمُسْلِمِينَMuslims."
And Moses said, "O my people, if you have believed in Allah, then rely upon Him if you are Muslims."
فَقَالُواSo they saidعَلَىuponاللَّهِAllahتَوَكَّلْنَاwe have reliedرَبَّنَاOur Lordلَاdo notتَجْعَلْنَاmake usفِتْنَةًa trialلِلْقَوْمِfor the peopleالظَّالِمِينَwrongdoingوَنَجِّنَاand save usبِرَحْمَتِكَby Your mercyمِنَfromالْقَوْمِthe peopleالْكَافِرِينَdisbelieving."
So they said, "Upon Allah we have relied. Our Lord, make us not a trial for the wrongdoing people and save us, by Your mercy, from the disbelieving people."
وَكَانَAnd wasفِرْعَوْنُPharaohيَمْنَعُpreventingبَنِيChildren ofإِسْرَائِيلَIsraelمِنْfromعِبَادَةِworship ofاللَّهِAllahوَيَغْضَبُand he would get angryإِذَاwhenرَآهُمْhe saw themيَعْبُدُونَworshippingاللَّهَAllahوَيُصَلُّونَand prayingلَهُto Him.
And Pharaoh used to prevent the Children of Israel from worshipping Allah, and he would get angry if he saw them worshipping Allah and praying to Him.
وَكَانَAnd he wasيَمْنَعُهُمْpreventing themمِنْfromأَنْthatيَتَّخِذُواthey takeمَسَاجِدَmosquesاللَّهِof Allahفِيinأَرْضِهِhis landوَكَانَand he wasيَغْضَبُgetting angryأَنْthatيُعْبَدَis worshippedاللَّهُAllahفِيinأَرْضِهِhis land.
And he was preventing them from taking mosques of Allah in his land, and he was getting angry that Allah was worshipped in his land.
مَاHowأَجْهَلَignorantفِرْعَوْنَPharaoh!الْأَرْضُThe earthلِلَّهِbelongs to Allahلَاnotلِفِرْعَوْنَto Pharaoh!
How ignorant Pharaoh is! The earth belongs to Allah, not to Pharaoh!
وَمَنْAnd whoأَظْلَمُmore unjustمِمَّنْthan he whoمَنَعَpreventedعِبَادَservantsاللَّهِof Allahأَنْthatيَعْبُدُواthey worshipاللَّهَAllahعَلَىonأَرْضِearthاللَّهِof Allah!
And who is more unjust than he who prevented the servants of Allah from worshipping Allah on the earth of Allah!
وَمَنْAnd whoأَظْلَمُmore unjustمِمَّنْthan he whoدَعَاcalledإِلَىtoعِبَادَتِهِhis own worshipعَلَىonأَرْضِearthاللَّهِof Allah?
And who is more unjust than he who called to his own worship on the earth of Allah?
وَلَكِنَّButفِرْعَوْنَPharaohمَاnotكَانَwasيَقْدِرُableأَنْtoيَمْنَعَpreventأَحَدًاanyoneيَفْعَلُfrom doingمَاwhatيَشَاءُhe wishesفِيinبَيْتِهِhis house!
But Pharaoh was not able to prevent anyone from doing what he wishes in his house!
فَأَمَرَSo commandedاللَّهُAllahبَنِيthe Children ofإِسْرَائِيلَIsraelعَلَىuponلِسَانِthe tongue ofمُوسَىMoses:
So Allah commanded the Children of Israel upon the tongue of Moses:
وَاجْعَلُوا"And makeبُيُوتَكُمْyour housesقِبْلَةًa directionوَأَقِيمُواand establishالصَّلَاةَthe prayer."
"And make your houses a direction and establish the prayer."
وَعَجَزَAnd was unableفِرْعَوْنُPharaohوَعَجَزَتْand was unableشُرْطَتُهُhis policeأَنْtoيَحُولُواinterveneبَيْنَbetweenبَنِيthe Children ofإِسْرَائِيلَIsraelوَعِبَادَةِand worship
And Pharaoh and his police were unable to intervene between the Children of Israel and worship.
