وَAndضَرَبَstruckٱللَّـهُAllahمَثَلًاa parableلِforلْمُؤْمِنِينَthe believersلِregardingإِيمَـٰنِهَاher faithوَandشَجَـٰعَتِهَاher courage.
And Allah struck a parable for the believers regarding her faith and her courage.
وَAndضَرَبَstruckٱللَّـهُAllahمَثَلًاa parableلِّforلَّذِينَthose whoآمَنُواbelieved,ٱمْرَأَتَthe wifeفِرْعَوْنَof Pharaohإِذْwhenقَالَتْshe said:رَبِّO my Lord,ٱبْنِbuild forلِىmeعِنْدَكَnear Youبَيْتًاa houseفِىinٱلْجَنَّةِParadiseوَandنَجِّنِىsave meمِنfromفِرْعَوْنَPharaohوَandعَمَلِهِۦhis deedوَandنَجِّنِىsave meمِنَfromٱلْقَوْمِthe peopleٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَwho are wrongdoers.
And Allah struck a parable for those who believed: the wife of Pharaoh when she said: 'O my Lord, build for me near You a house in Paradise and save me from Pharaoh and his deed and save me from the people who are wrongdoers.'
٤4-—مِحْنَةُThe trialبَنِىof the childrenإِسْرَٰٓءِيلَof Israel.
4 — The trial of the children of Israel.
وَAndلَمَّاwhenعَلِمَknewٱلنَّاسُthe peopleعَدَاوَةَthe enmityفِرْعَوْنَof Pharaohلِtowardsبَنِىthe childrenإِسْرَٰٓءِيلَof Israel,تَقَرَّبُوا۟they drew closerإِلَىٰtoفِرْعَوْنَPharaohبِعَدَاوَتِهِمْby their enmityوَandإِذَآئِهِمْtheir harming them.
And when the people knew the enmity of Pharaoh towards the children of Israel, they drew closer to Pharaoh with their enmity and their harming them.
وَAndٱجْتَرَأَdaredعَلَىٰagainstبَنِىthe childrenإِسْرَٰٓءِيلَof Israelٱلْأَطْفَالُthe childrenوَandهَرَتْهُمُtore at themٱلْكِلَابُthe dogs.
And the children dared against the children of Israel, and the dogs tore at them.
فَSoفِىinكُلِّeveryيَوْمٍdayمِحْنَةٌis a trialجَدِيدَةٌnew!وَAndفِىinكُلِّeveryيَوْمٍdayبَلِيَّةٌis a calamityنَازِلَةٌdescending.
So in every day is a new trial! And in every day is a descending calamity.
وَAndمُوسَىٰMosesعَلَيْهِupon himٱلصَّلَاةُbe the prayerوَandٱلسَّلَامُpeaceيُسَلِّيهِمْwas comforting themوَandيُوصِيهِمْadvising themبِٱلصَّبْرِwith patience,وَandيَقُولُsayingلَهُمْto them:ٱسْتَعِينُوا۟Seek helpبِٱللَّـهِthrough Allahوَandٱصْبِرُوٓا۟be patient.إِنَّIndeed,ٱلْأَرْضَthe earthلِلَّهِbelongs to Allah;يُورِثُهَاHe causes to inherit itمَنwhomيَشَاءُHe willsمِنْofعِبَادِهِۦHis servants,وَandٱلْعَـٰقِبَةُthe outcomeلِلْمُتَّقِينَis for the righteous.
And Moses, upon him be prayer and peace, was comforting them and advising them with patience, and saying to them: 'Seek help through Allah and be patient. Indeed, the earth belongs to Allah; He causes to inherit it whom He wills of His servants, and the outcome is for the righteous.'
وَAndسَـَٔمَgrew wearyبَنُوٓا۟the childrenإِسْرَٰٓءِيلَof Israelهَـٰذِهِthisٱلْمِحْنَةَtrial,وَandهَـٰذَاthisٱلْأَذَىٰharm,وَandقَالُوا۟saidلِمُوسَىٰto Moses:لَمْYou did notتَنفَعْنَاbenefit usشَيْـًٔاat all!لَمْYou did notتُغْنِavailعَنَّاusشَيْـًٔاat all!
And the children of Israel grew weary of this trial and this harm, and said to Moses: 'You did not benefit us at all! You did not avail us at all!'
قَالُوٓا۟They said,أُوذِينَا'We were harmedمِنbeforeقَبْلِthatأَنyou cameتَأْتِيَنَاto us,وَمِنand afterبَعْدِwhatمَاyou cameجِئْتَنَاto us.'
They said, 'We were harmed before you came to us, and after what you came to us.'
وَلَـٰكِنButمُوسَىٰMosesلَمْdid notيَجْزَعْdespair!وَلَـٰكِنَّAnd indeedمُوسَىٰMosesلَمْdid notيَيْـَٔسْlose hope!
But Moses did not despair! And indeed Moses did not lose hope!
