وَلَمْAnd did notيَصْنَعْmakeشُرْطَةُthe policeفِرْعَوْنَof Pharaohشَيْئًاanything
And Pharaoh's police did not make anything,
وَلَمْand did notيَشْعُرُواthey perceiveبِذَلِكَof that,
and they did not perceive of that,
وَلَهُمْwhile they hadشَامَةُthe shrewdnessالنَّمْلِof the antsوَعُيُونُand the eyesالْغُرَابِof the crow.
while they had the shrewdness of ants and the eyes of the crow.
وَلَمْAnd did notيَشْعُرْperceiveبِذَلِكَof thatفِرْعَوْنُPharaoh,
And Pharaoh did not perceive of that,
وَهُوَwhile he isأَقْرَبُthe closestالنَّاسِof peopleإِلَيْهَاto her.
while he was the closest of people to her.
وَلَوْAnd ifعَلِمَhad knownبِذَلِكَof thatفِرْعَوْنُPharaoh,مَاذَاwhatفَعَلَwould he have done?
And if Pharaoh had known of that, what would he have done?
إِنَّهُIndeed, heيَمْلِكُpossessesالْجِسْمَthe bodyوَلَكِنَّهُbut heلَاdoes notيَمْلِكُpossessالْعَقْلَthe mind.
Indeed, he possesses the body, but he does not possess the mind.
وَإِنَّAnd indeedلَهُfor him isسُلْطَانًاauthorityعَلَىoverاللِّسَانِthe tongue,
And indeed he has authority over the tongue,
وَلَيْسَand notلَهُfor him isعَلَىoverالْقَلْبِthe heartسُلْطَانٌany authority.
and he has no authority over the heart.
عَلَىUponالْمَرْأَةِthe womanأَنْis thatتُطِيعَshe obeysزَوْجَهَاher husband,
It is incumbent upon the woman to obey her husband,
وَلَكِنْbutلَاthere is noطَاعَةَobedienceلِمَخْلُوقٍto a created beingفِيinمَعْصِيَةِdisobedience ofالْخَالِقِthe Creator.
but there is no obedience to a created being in disobedience to the Creator.
عَلَىUponالْوَلَدِthe childأَنْis thatيُطِيعَhe obeysأَبَوَيْهِhis parents
It is incumbent upon the child to obey his parents
وَأَنْand thatيَكُونَhe beبِهِمَاto themبَارًّاdutifulرَشِيدًاand righteous,
and to be dutiful and righteous to them,
وَلَكِنْbutلَيْسَit is notلَهُfor himأَنْthatيُطِيعَهُمَاhe obeys themفِيinالشِّرْكِpolytheism.
but he is not to obey them in polytheism.
وَإِنْAnd ifجَهَادَكَthey strive with youلِتُشْرِكَthat you associateبِيwith Meمَاthat whichلَيْسَnotلَكَfor youبِهِthereofعِلْمٌis any knowledge
And if they strive with you to associate with Me that of which you have no knowledge,
فَلَاthen do notتُطِعْهُمَاobey them.
then do not obey them.
إِلَيَّTo Meمَرْجِعُكُمْis your returnفَأُنَبِّئُكُمْand I will inform youبِمَاof whatكُنْتُمْyou used toتَعْمَلُونَdoوَلَاand do notتُتْبِعْهُمَاfollow themفِيinذَلِكَthat.
To Me is your return, and I will inform you of what you used to do.
وَاسْتَقَامَتْAnd remained firmامْرَأَةُthe wifeفِرْعَوْنَof Pharaohعَلَىuponالْإِيمَانِthe faith,
And the wife of Pharaoh remained firm upon the faith,
وَكَانَتْand she wasتَعْبُدُworshippingاللَّهَAllahفِيinبَيْتِthe houseعَدُوِّof the enemyاللَّهِof Allah.
and she was worshipping Allah in the house of the enemy of Allah.
وَكَانَتْAnd she wasتَخَافُfearingاللَّهَAllah,
And she was fearing Allah,
وَتَتَبَرَّأُand disavowingإِلَىbeforeاللَّهِAllahمِمَّاfrom whatيَعْمَلُwas doingفِرْعَوْنُPharaoh.
and disavowing before Allah from what Pharaoh was doing.
وَرَضِيَAnd was pleasedاللَّهُAllahعَنْwithامْرَأَةِthe wifeفِرْعَوْنَof Pharaoh,
And Allah was pleased with the wife of Pharaoh,
وَأَنْجَاهَاand He saved herاللَّهُAllahمِنْfromفِرْعَوْنَPharaohوَعَمَلِهِand his deeds.
and Allah saved her from Pharaoh and his deeds.
