وَكَانَAnd it wasإِذَاwhenآمَنَbelievedأَحَدٌsomeoneبِمُوسَىin Moses
And when someone believed in Moses
فِيinأَقْصَىthe farthestمَمْلَكَةِkingdomمِصْرَof Egypt,
in the farthest kingdom of Egypt,
جُنَّwent madجُنُونُwith the madnessفِرْعَوْنَof Pharaoh.
Pharaoh went utterly mad.
وَقَامَAnd stoodفِرْعَوْنُPharaohوَقَعَدَand sat,
Pharaoh stood up and sat down,
وَبَرَقَand flashedفِرْعَوْنُPharaohوَرَعَدَand thundered.
and Pharaoh flashed and thundered.
وَقَالَAnd he said,كَيْفَ"Howيَكُونُcan it beلَهُfor himأَنْtoيُؤْمِنَbelieveبِمُوسَىin Moses
And he said, 'How can he believe in Moses
قَبْلَbeforeأَنْthatآذَنَI permitلَهُ؟him?'
before I permit him?'
يَعِيشُ"He livesفِيinمَمْلَكَتِيmy kingdomوَيُعْصِينِي،and disobeys me,
'He lives in my kingdom and disobeys me,
وَيَأْكُلُand eatsرِزْقِيmy provisionوَيَكْفُرُنِي؟and denies me?'
and eats my provision and denies me?'
أَنَا"Iأَوْلَىam more deserving ofبِكُلِّeveryرَجُلٍman
'I am more deserving of every man
فِيinمِصْرَEgyptمِنْthanنَفْسِهِ!himself!"
in Egypt than himself!'
وَيَنْسَىAnd forgetsفِرْعَوْنُPharaohأَنَّهُthat heيَعِيشُlivesفِيinمَمْلَكَةِthe kingdomاللَّهِof Allah
And Pharaoh forgets that he lives in the kingdom of Allah
وَيَعْصِيهِ،and disobeys Him,وَيَأْكُلُand eatsرِزْقَthe provisionاللَّهِof Allahوَيَكْفُرُand deniesبِهِ.Him.
and disobeys Him, and eats the provision of Allah and denies Him.
وَأَرَاهُAnd showed himاللَّهُAllahآيَةًa signفِيinبَيْتِهِ،his house,
And Allah showed him a sign in his house,
آيَةًa signفِيinأَهْلِهِ.his family.
a sign in his family.
أَرَاهُHe showed himاللَّهُAllahأَنَّهُthat Heمَلِكُis the Kingالْعُقُولِof minds
Allah showed him that He is the King of minds
كَمَاjust asأَنَّهُHeمَلِكُis the Kingالْأَجْسَامِ،of bodies,
just as He is the King of bodies,
وَأَنَّand thatلَهُHe hasسُلْطَانًاauthorityعَلَىoverالْقُلُوبِhearts
and that He has authority over hearts
كَمَاjust asأَنَّHeلَهُhasسُلْطَانًاauthorityعَلَىoverالْأَلْسِنَةِ،tongues,
just as He has authority over tongues,
وَأَنَّand thatاللَّهَAllahيَحُولُintervenesبَيْنَbetweenالرَّجُلِa manوَأَهْلِهِ،and his family,
and that Allah intervenes between a man and his family,
وَأَنَّand thatاللَّهَAllahيَحُولُintervenesبَيْنَbetweenالْمَرْءِa personوَقَلْبِهِ!and his heart!
and that Allah intervenes between a person and his heart!
دَخَلَEnteredالْإِيمَانُfaithفِيintoبَيْتِthe houseفِرْعَوْنَof Pharaoh
Faith entered the house of Pharaoh
وَهُوَwhile heلَاwas notيَشْعُرُ،aware,وَلَاand whileيَمْلِكُhe possessedشَيْئًا.nothing.
while he was not aware, and possessed nothing.
وَآمَنَتْAnd believedامْرَأَةُthe wifeفِرْعَوْنَof Pharaoh
And the wife of Pharaoh believed
بِاللَّهِin Allahوَكَفَرَتْand disbelievedبِفِرْعَوْنَin Pharaoh.
in Allah and disbelieved in Pharaoh.
وَآمَنَتْAnd she believedبِمُوسَىin Mosesعَلَىdespiteرَغْمِtheزَوْجِهَا،will of her husband,
And she believed in Moses despite her husband,
مَلِكِthe kingمِصْرَ.of Egypt.
the king of Egypt.
آمَنَتْShe believedبِمُوسَىin Mosesأَعْلَمَwho was the most knowledgeableخَلْقِof the creationاللَّهِof Allah
She believed in Moses, the most knowledgeable of Allah's creation
بِفِرْعَوْنَregarding Pharaohوَأَحَبِّand the most belovedالنَّاسِof peopleإِلَيْهِ.to him.
regarding Pharaoh and the most beloved of people to him.
