فَضْلَهَا،its virtue,وَمَاand notقَدَرْتُمُوهَاyou valued itحَقَّwith the trueقَدْرِهَا،worth,حَتَّىٰuntilإِذَاwhenذَهَبَتْit departedتَأَسَّفْتُمْyou regrettedعَلَيْهَا.it.
its virtue, and you did not value it with its true worth, until when it departed you regretted it.
ذَٰلِكَThat isيُوسُفُJosephالنَّبِيُّthe Prophetعَلَيْهِupon himصَلَاةُbe the prayerاللَّهِof Allahوَسَلَامُهُ،and His peace,الَّذِيwhomمَاnotعَرَفْتُمُوهُyou knew himوَلَمْand notتُقَدِّرُواyou valuedقَدْرَهُ.his worth.
That is Joseph the Prophet, upon him be the prayer of Allah and His peace, whom you did not know and you did not value his worth.
وَلَٰكِنَّهُBut whenلَمَّاheمَاتَdiedقُلْتُمْyou saidسُبْحَانَGlory beاللَّهِ،to Allah,نَبِيٌّa prophetوَلَاand notكَيُوسُفَ.like Joseph.
But when he died you said, 'Glory be to Allah, a prophet and not like Joseph.'
مَلِكٌA kingوَلَاand notكَيُوسُفَ!like Joseph!رَجُلٌA manوَلَاand notكَيُوسُفَ!like Joseph!
A king and not like Joseph! A man and not like Joseph!
وَمَنْAnd whoلَنَاis for usبِنَبِيٍّwith a prophetبَعْدَهُ؟after him?مَنْWhoلَنَاis for usبِمِثْلِهِ؟with one like him?
And who is for us with a prophet after him? Who is for us with one like him?
أَبَدًاNever!لَنْWill neverيَأْتِيَcomeمِثْلُهُ!one like him!
Never! One like him will never come!
وَلَقَدْAnd indeedجَاءَكُمْcame to youيُوسُفُJosephمِنْfromقَبْلُbeforeبِالْبَيِّنَاتِwith clear proofs,فَمَاso notزِلْتُمْyou ceasedفِيto be inشَكٍّdoubtمِّمَّاconcerning whatجَاءَكُمْcame to youبِهِwith itحَتَّىٰuntilإِذَاwhenهَلَكَhe perishedقُلْتُمْyou saidلَنْneverيَبْعَثَwill sendاللَّهُAllahمِنْfromبَعْدِهِafter himرَسُولًا.a messenger.
And indeed Joseph came to you from before with clear proofs, so you did not cease to be in doubt concerning what he brought to you until when he perished you said, 'Allah will never send a messenger after him.'
كَذَٰلِكَThusتَفْعَلُونَyou doبَعْدَafterهَٰذَاthisالنَّبِيِّProphetأَيْضًا،also,وَتَنْدَمُونَ!and you will regret!
Thus you do after this Prophet also, and you will regret!
٢2--نَصِيحَةُThe adviceالرَّجُلِof the man
2 - The advice of the man
وَعَظَAdmonishedالرَّجُلُthe manقَوْمَهُhis peopleوَبَذَلَand offeredلَهُمْto themوُدَّهُhis affectionوَنَصِيحَتَهُ.and his advice.
The man admonished his people and offered to them his affection and his advice.
وَقَالَAnd saidالَّذِيhe whoآمَنَbelieved,يَاOقَوْمِmy people,اتَّبِعُونِfollow me,أَهْدِكُمْI will guide you toسَبِيلَthe wayالرَّشَادِ.of rectitude.
And he who believed said, 'O my people, follow me, I will guide you to the way of rectitude.'
وَعَلِمَAnd knewالرَّجُلُthe manالرَّشِيدُthe wiseأَنَّthatالْقَوْمَthe peopleفِيare inسَكْرَةٍa state of intoxicationمِنَfromالْحَيَاةِthe lifeالدُّنْيَاof this world,وَأَنَّand thatفِرْعَوْنَPharaohمَغْرُورٌis deceivedبِمُلْكِهِby his kingdomوَقُوَّتِهِ.and his power.
And the wise man knew that the people are in a state of intoxication from the life of this world, and that Pharaoh is deceived by his kingdom and his power.
وَلَٰكِنَّButهَٰذِهِthisالْحَيَاةَlifeحُلْمٌis a dreamمِنَamongالْأَحْلَامِ،the dreams,وَأَنَّand thatالدُّنْيَاthe worldظِلٌّis a shadowزَائِلٌ.transitory.
But this life is a dream among the dreams, and that the world is a transitory shadow.
