نَحْنُWe

We.

فَقَدْIndeedفَقَدْنَاwe have lostفِيinدَفِينِthe burial ofالْيَوْمِtodayأَخًاa brotherشَفِيقًاcompassionateوَسَيِّدًاand a masterرَحِيمًاmercifulوَمَلِكًاand a kingعَادِلًاjust

Indeed, we have lost today a compassionate brother, a merciful master, and a just king.

الَّذِيWhoأَرَاحَbrought relief toالْعِبَادَthe servants،,وَأَزَالَand removedالظُّلْمَinjusticeمِنَfromالْبِلَادِthe land

Who brought relief to the servants and removed injustice from the land.

هُوَHe

He

وَAndالَّذِيwhoمَنَعَpreventedالْكَبِيرَthe elderيَظْلِمُfrom oppressingالصَّغِيرَthe younger،,وَمَنَعَand preventedالْقَوِيَّthe strongيَاكُلُfrom consumingالضَّعِيفَthe weak

And who prevented the elder from oppressing the younger, and prevented the strong from consuming the weak.

هُوَHeالَّذِيis the one whoأَغَاثَcame to the aid ofالْمَظْلُومَthe oppressedوَأَجَارَand shelteredالْخَائِفَthe fearfulوَأَطْعَمَand fedالْجَائِعَthe hungry

He is the one who came to the aid of the oppressed, sheltered the fearful, and fed the hungry.

هُوَHeالَّذِيis the one whoهَدَانَاguided usإِلَىtoالْحَقِّthe truthوَدَعَانَاand called usإِلَىtoاللَّهِGod،,وَكُنَّاand we wereقَبْلَbeforeقُدُومِهِhis arrivalبَهَائِمَbeastsلَاwho did notنَعْرِفُknowاللَّهَGodوَلَاnorنَعْرِفُknowالْآخِرَةَthe hereafter

He is the one who guided us to the truth and called us to God, and before his arrival, we were beasts who did not know God, nor did we know the hereafter.

هُوَHeالَّذِيis the one whoأَغَاثَنَاcame to our aidأَيَّامَduring the days ofالْمَجَاعَةِfamineفَكُنَّاso we wereنَأْكُلُeatingوَنَشْبَعُand were fullوَالنَّاسُwhile peopleيَمُوتُونَwere dyingفِيinالْبِلَادِthe landsالْأُخْرَىother

He is the one who came to our aid during the days of famine, so we were eating and were full, while people were dying in other lands.

إِنَّاIndeed weلَاdo notنَنْسَىforgetمَلِكَنَاour kingالْكَرِيمَgenerousأَبَدًاever،,وَلَاand we do notنَنْسَىforgetأَيُّهَاOالسَّادَةُgentlemenأَنَّكُمْthat you areإِخْوَتُهُhis brothersوَأَهْلُand members ofبَيْتِهِhis household

Indeed, we will never forget our generous king, nor do we forget, O gentlemen, that you are his brothers and members of his household.

وَكَمْAnd howفَرِحَhappyبِكُمْwith youسَيِّدُنَاour masterيَوْمَon the dayقُدُومِكُمْof your arrivalإِلَىtoمِصْرَEgypt،,وَكَمْand howفَرِحْنَاhappy we wereبِفَرَحِwith the happiness ofسَيِّدِنَاour master!!فَالْبِلَادُSo the landبِلَادُكُمْis your landوَإِنَّاand indeed weلَكُمْare to youأَيُّهَاOالسَّادَةُgentlemenكَمَاasكُنَّاwe wereفِيinحَيَاةِthe life ofسَيِّدِنَاour master

And how happy our master was with you on the day of your arrival to Egypt, and how happy we were with our master's happiness! So the land is your land, and we are to you, O gentlemen, as we were in the life of our master.

--بَنُوChildrenإِسْرَائِيلَof IsraelفِيinمِصْرَEgypt

- Children of Israel in Egypt

وَهَكَذَاAnd thusكَانَit wasمُدَّةًfor a periodطَوِيلَةًlong!!فَقَدْIndeedحَفِظَpreservedأَهْلُthe people ofمِصْرَEgyptمَاwhatقَالُوهُthey saidوَعَرَفُواand knewلِلْكَنْعَانِيِّينَfor the Canaanitesالْفَضْلَthe merit

And thus it was for a long period! The people of Egypt preserved what they said and knew the merit of the Canaanites.
