٢٦26--سَفَاهَةُFoolishnessفِرْعَوْنَPharaoh
26 - The Foolishness of Pharaoh
وَاهْتَمَّAnd he caredفِرْعَوْنُPharaohبِأَمْرِabout the matterمُوسَىof Mosesكَثِيرًاa lotوَطَارَand flewنَوْمُهُ.his sleep.
Pharaoh cared a lot about the matter of Moses, and his sleep was gone.
وَبَقِيَAnd remainedفِرْعَوْنُPharaohلَاnotيَطِيبُpleasantلَهُfor himطَعَامٌfoodوَلَاnorشَرَابٌ.drink.
And Pharaoh's food and drink did not become pleasant for him.
وَأَثَارَAnd stirredغَضَبَهُhis angerالْآخَرُونَthe othersأَيْضًاalsoوَقَالُوا:and they said:أَتَذَرُDo you leaveمُوسَىMosesوَقَوْمَهُand his peopleلِيُفْسِدُواthat they may cause corruptionفِيinالْأَرْضِthe landوَيَذَرَكَand leave youوَالِهَتَكَand your gods
The others also stirred his anger and said: Do you leave Moses and his people to cause corruption in the land, and leave you and your gods?
وَغَضِبَAnd angeredفِرْعَوْنُPharaohوَثَارَ،and he raged,﴿(قَالَHe said:سَنُقَتِّلُWe will killأَبْنَاءَهُمْtheir sonsوَنَسْتَحْيِيand keep aliveنِسَاءَهُمْtheir womenوَإِنَّاand indeed weفَوْقَهُمْover themقَاهِرُونَare triumphant.﴾)
And Pharaoh was angered and raged, (He said: We will kill their sons and keep alive their women, and indeed we are triumphant over them.)
وَأَرَادَAnd he wantedفِرْعَوْنُPharaohأَنْtoيَصُدَّturn awayبَنِيthe Childrenإِسْرَائِيلَof Israelوَأَهْلَand the peopleمِصْرَof EgyptعَنْfromمُوسَىMosesبِكُلِّwith everyحِيلَةٍ.trick.
And Pharaoh wanted to turn away the Children of Israel and the people of Egypt from Moses with every trick.
وَنَادَىAnd called outفِرْعَوْنُPharaohفِيamongقَوْمِهِhis peopleقَالَhe said:يَاOقَوْمِmy people,أَلَيْسَis notلِيfor meمُلْكُthe dominionمِصْرَof Egyptوَهَذِهِand theseالْأَنْهَارُriversتَجْرِيflowمِنْfromتَحْتِيbeneath me?أَفَلَاWill you notتُبْصِرُوْنَsee?أَمْOrأَنَاam Iخَيْرٌbetterمِّنْthanهَذَاthis oneالَّذِيwhoهُوَisمَهِينٌةٌcontemptibleوَّلَاand hardlyيَكَادُcanيُبِينُspeak clearly.
And Pharaoh called out among his people, saying: O my people, is not for me the dominion of Egypt and these rivers flow from beneath me? Will you not see? Or am I better than this one who is contemptible and can hardly speak clearly?
وَقَالَAnd saidفِرْعَوْنُPharaohبِرَزَانَةٍwith calmnessوَحُلْمٍ:and forbearance:
And Pharaoh said with calmness and forbearance:
يَأَيُّهَاOالْمَلَأُnoblesمَاwhatعَلِمْتُI knowلَكُمْfor youمِنْofإِلَهِa godغَيْرِيother than me.
O nobles, I know not for you a god other than me.
كَأَنَّهُAs if heفَتَّشَsearchedكَثِيرًا،a lot,وَفَكَّرَand thoughtكَثِيرًاa lotوَنَصَحَand advisedلِقَوْمِهِ،his people,وَقَالَand saidفِيinسَفَاهَةٍfoolishnessوَجُنُونٍ:and madness:
As if he searched a lot, and thought a lot and advised his people, and said in foolishness and madness:
فَأَوْقِدْSo igniteلِيfor meيُهَامُنُHamanعَلَىuponالطِّينِthe clayفَاجْعَلْand makeلِيfor meصَرْحًاa towerلَّعَلَّيَّso that I mayأَطَّلِعُascendإِلَىtoإِلَهِthe godمُوسَىof Moses
So ignite for me, Haman, upon the clay and make for me a tower so that I may ascend to the god of Moses.
