وَلَكِنْButأَيْنَwhereالنَّارُis the fireفِيinالصَّحْرَاءِ؟the desert?
But where is the fire in the desert?
وَمَاذَاAnd whatيَصْنَعَانِwill they doإِذَاifلَمْthey do notيَجِدَاfindنَارًاa fireيَصْطَلِيَانِto warm themselvesبِهَا،by it,وَلَمْand do notيَجِدَاfindنُورًاlightيَهْتَدِيَانِto be guidedبِهِ؟!.by it?!
And what will they do if they do not find fire to warm themselves by it, and do not find light to be guided by it?!
وَبَيْنَمَاAnd whileهُمَاthey twoيَسِيرَانِwere walkingوَمُوسَىand Mosesيَبْحَثُwas searchingعَنْforنَارٍfire
And while they two were walking and Moses was searching for fire
﴿إِذْWhenرَأَىhe sawنَارًاa fireفَقَالَand saidلِأَهْلِهِto his familyامْكُثُواStayإِنِّيindeed Iأَنَسْتُhave perceivedنَارًاa fireلَّعَلَّىperhaps Iآتِيكُمْwill bring to youمِنْهَاfrom itبِقَبَسٍa brandأَوْorأَجِدُI will findعَلَىatالنَّارِthe fireهُدًى﴾guidance.
When he saw a fire and said to his family, 'Stay; indeed, I have perceived a fire; perhaps I will bring you from it a torch or find at the fire guidance.'
وَسَارَAnd walkedمُوسَىMosesقَبْلَtowardالنَّارِthe fireعَلَىonجَنَاحِthe wingsالشَّوْقِ،of longing,
And Moses walked toward the fire on the wings of longing,
فَلَمَّاSo whenأَتَاهَاhe came to itنُودِيَhe was calledيَا مُوسَىO Moses,
So when he came to it, he was called, 'O Moses,'
إِنَّيIndeed Iأَنَاamرَبُّكَyour Lordفَاخْلَعْso removeنَعْلَيْكَyour sandalsإِنَّكَindeed youبِالْوَادِare in the valleyالْمُقَدَّسِsacredطُوًىTowa.
Indeed, I am your Lord, so remove your sandals. Indeed, you are in the sacred valley of Towa.
هُنَالِكَThereكَلَّمَspokeاللَّهُAllahمُوسَىto Mosesوَأَوْحَىand revealedإِلَيْهِto him
There Allah spoke to Moses and revealed to him
وَأَنَاAnd Iاخْتَرْتُكَhave chosen youفَاسْتَمِعْso listenلِمَاto whatيُوحَىis revealed.
And I have chosen you, so listen to what is revealed.
إِنَّنِيIndeed IأَنَاamاللَّهُAllahلَاthere is noإِلَهَdeityإِلَّاexceptأَنَاMeفَاعْبُدْنِيso worship Meوَأَقِمِand establishالصَّلَاةَthe prayerلِذِكْرِيfor My remembrance.
Indeed, I am Allah. There is no deity except Me, so worship Me and establish prayer for My remembrance.
إِنَّIndeedالسَّاعَةَthe Hourآتِيَةٌis coming.
Indeed, the Hour is coming.
وَكَانَAnd there wasفِيinيَدِthe handمُوسَىof Mosesعَصًىa staffكَانَthat he usedيَحْمِلُهَاto carryوَيَسْتَعِينُand seek helpبِهَا،with it,
And there was in the hand of Moses a staff that he used to carry and seek help with it,
فَقَالَSo saidاللَّهُAllahتَعَالَى:Exalted be He:﴿وَمَاAnd what isتِلْكَthatبِيَمِينِكَin your right handيَا مُوسَى﴾O Moses?
So Allah, Exalted be He, said, 'And what is that in your right hand, O Moses?'
وَأَجَابَAnd answeredمُوسَىMosesفِيwithبَسَاطَةٍsimplicityوَسَدَاجَةٍand innocence:هِيَIt isعَصَايَmy staff.
And Moses answered with simplicity and innocence: 'It is my staff.'
وَأَخَذَAnd beganمُوسَىMosesيَعُدُّto enumerateفَوَائِدَthe benefitsهَذِهِof thisالْعَصَاstaffفِيinتَفْصِيلٍdetailلِأَنَّهُbecause heأَرَادَwantedأَنْtoيُكَلِّمَspeakاللَّهَto Allahوَيَكُونَand forحَدِيثُهُhis conversationطَوِيلًاto be long.
And Moses began to enumerate the benefits of this staff in detail because he wanted to speak to Allah and for his conversation to be long.
قَالَHe saidهِيَIt isعَصَايَmy staffأَتَوَكَّأُI leanعَلَيْهَاupon itوَأَهُشُّand I beat downبِهَاwith itعَلَىforغَنَمِيmy sheepوَلِيَand for meفِيهَاin itمَآرِبُare other uses.
He said, 'It is my staff; I lean upon it, and I beat down leaves with it for my sheep, and I have therein other uses.'
