فَجَاءَتْهُThen came to himإِحْدَىٰهُمَاone of themتَمْشِيwalkingعَلَىٰwithاسْتِحْيَاءٍmodesty.

Then one of them came to him, walking with modesty.

قَالَتْShe said,إِنَّindeedأَبِيmy fatherيَدْعُوكَcalls youلِيَجْزِيَكَto reward youأَجْرَthe reward forمَاwhatسَقَيْتَyou wateredلَنَاfor us.

She said, 'Indeed, my father calls you to reward you for what you watered for us.'

وَعَرَفَAnd knewمُوسَىٰMosesأَنَّthatاللَّهَAllahقَدْhasأَجَابَansweredدُعَاءَهُhis prayer

And Moses knew that Allah had answered his prayer

وَبَوَّأَهُand granted himلَهُfor him,فَمَاso he did notأَبَىٰrefuse.

and granted him a good outcome, so he did not refuse.

وَخَرَجَAnd went outمُوسَىٰMosesأَمَامَهَاin front of herلِئَلَّاso as not toيَقَعَfallنَظَرُهُhis gazeعَلَيْهَاupon her.

And Moses walked in front of her so as not to let his gaze fall upon her,

وَمَشَىٰAnd walkedمُوسَىٰMosesمَشْيَthe walk ofالْكِرَامِthe noble.

and Moses walked the walk of the noble.

وَلَمَّاAnd whenوَصَلَhe reachedإِلَىtoالشَّيْخِthe elder,سَأَلَهُhe asked himعَنْaboutاسْمِهِhis nameوَوَطَنِهِand his homeland.

And when he reached the elder, he asked him about his name and his homeland.

وَأَخْبَرَAnd toldمُوسَىٰMosesخَبَرَهُhis newsوَقَصَّand recountedعَلَيْهِto himقِصَّتَهُhis story

And Moses told his news and recounted to him his story

سَمِعَHe heardالشَّيْخُthe elderكُلَّallذَلِكَthatبِصَبْرٍwith patienceوَهُدُوءٍand calmness.

The elder heard all that with patience and calmness,

وَلَمَّاand whenانْتَهَىٰfinishedمُوسَىٰMosesمِنْfromقِصَّتِهِhis story

and when Moses finished his story,

قَالَHe saidلَاdo notتَخَفْfear,نَجَوْتَyou have been savedمِنَfromالْقَوْمِthe peopleالظَّالِمِينَunjust.٥5

He said, 'Do not fear. You have been saved from the unjust people.'

١٧17----الزَّوَاجُMarriage

17 - Marriage

وَأَقَامَAnd stayedمُوسَىٰMosesعِنْدَهُمْwith themمَقَامَasضَيْفٍa guestكَرِيمٍhonored.

And Moses stayed with them as an honored guest.

بَلْRather,حَلَّhe settledمِنْهُمْamong themمَحَلَّin the place ofالْوَلَدِthe sonالْعَزِيزِcherished.

Rather, he settled among them in the place of a cherished son.

وَقَالَتْAnd saidسَيِّدَةٌa ladyلِوَالِدِهَاto her fatherيَوْمًاone dayفِيwithبَسَاطَةٍsimplicityوَطَهَارَةٍand purity:

And a lady said to her father one day with simplicity and purity:

يَا أَبَتِO my father,اسْتَأْجِرْهُhire him.إِنَّIndeed,خَيْرَthe bestمَنِof those whoاسْتَأْجَرْتَyou hireالْقَوِيُّis the strongالْأَمِينُthe trustworthy.

'O my father, hire him. Indeed, the best of those you hire is the strong, the trustworthy.'

قِصَّتُهُHis story

His story

قَالَSaidالشَّيْخُthe elder,وَمَاAnd whatعِلْمُكِis your knowledgeبِقُوَّتِهِof his strengthوَأَمَانَتِهِand his trustworthiness,يَاOبُنَيَّةُmy daughter?

Said the elder, 'And what is your knowledge of his strength and his trustworthiness, O my daughter?'

قَالَتْShe said,أَمَّاas forقُوَّتُهُhis strength,فَلِأَنَّهُit is because heرَفَعَliftedالْغِطَاءَthe coverعَنِfromبِئْرِthe wellوَحْدَهُalone,وَلَاand no oneيَرْفَعُهُlifts itإِلَّاexcept...

She said, 'As for his strength, it is because he lifted the cover from the well alone, and no one lifts it except...'
