وَكَانَAnd wasإِبْرَاهِيمُIbrahimيَنْصَحُadvisingلِقَوْمِهِhis people
Ibrahim was advising his people,
وَكَانَand wasالنَّاسُthe peopleيَغْضَبُونَgetting angry
and the people were getting angry
وَلَاand notيَفْهَمُونَunderstanding
and not understanding.
قَالَSaidإِبْرَاهِيمُIbrahim
Ibrahim said
أَنَاIأَكْسِرُwill breakالْأَصْنَامَthe idols
I will break the idols
إِذَاwhenذَهَبَleavesالنَّاسُthe people
when the people leave,
وَحِينَئِذٍand at that timeيَفْهَمُwill understandالنَّاسُthe people
and then the people will understand.
إِبْرَاهِيمُIbrahimيَكْسِرُbreaksالْأَصْنَامَthe idols
Ibrahim Breaks the Idols
وَجَاءَAnd cameيَوْمُdayعِيدٍof festival
And the day of the festival came,
فَفَرِحَso rejoicedالنَّاسُthe people
so the people rejoiced.
وَخَرَجَAnd went outالنَّاسُthe peopleلِلْعِيدِfor the festival
The people went out for the festival,
وَخَرَجَand went outالْأَطْفَالُthe children
and the children went out.
وَخَرَجَAnd went outوَالِدُfatherإِبْرَاهِيمَof Ibrahim
And the father of Ibrahim went out
وَقَالَand saidلِإِبْرَاهِيمَto Ibrahim
and said to Ibrahim,
أَلَاWill you notتَخْرُجُgo outمَعَنَاwith us
"Will you not go out with us?"
قَالَSaidإِبْرَاهِيمُIbrahim
Ibrahim said,
أَنَاIسَقِيمٌam sick
"I am sick."
وَذَهَبَAnd wentالنَّاسُthe people
And the people went,
وَبَقِيَand remainedإِبْرَاهِيمُIbrahimفِيinالْبَيْتِthe house
and Ibrahim remained in the house.
وَجَاءَAnd cameإِبْرَاهِيمُIbrahimإِلَىtoالْأَصْنَامِthe idols
And Ibrahim came to the idols,
وَقَالَand saidلِلْأَصْنَامِto the idols
and said to the idols:
أَلَاDo you notتَتَكَلَّمُونَspeak
"Do you not speak?
أَلَاDo you notتَسْمَعُونَhear
Do you not hear?
هَذَاThis isطَعَامٌfoodوَشَرَابٌand drink
This is food and drink,
أَلَاdo you notتَأْكُلُونَeat
do you not eat?
أَلَاDo you notتَشْرَبُونَdrink
Do you not drink?"
وَسَكَتَتِAnd remained silentالْأَصْنَامُthe idols
And the idols remained silent
لِأَنَّهَاbecause theyحِجَارَةٌare stonesلَاnotتَنْطِقُspeaking
because they are stones that do not speak.
قَالَSaidإِبْرَاهِيمُIbrahim
Ibrahim said,
مَاWhat isلَكُمْwrong with you
"What is wrong with you
لَاthat you do notتَنْطِقُونَspeak
that you do not speak?"
وَسَكَتَتِAnd remained silentالْأَصْنَامُthe idols
And the idols remained silent
وَمَاand did notنَطَقَتْspeak
and did not speak.
حِينَئِذٍAt that timeغَضِبَgot angryإِبْرَاهِيمُIbrahim
At that time Ibrahim got angry
وَأَخَذَand tookالْفَأْسَthe axe
and took the axe.
