قَالَSaidلَهُمْto themيَعْقُوبُ:Jacob:
Jacob said to them:
لَنْwill notأُرْسِلَهُI send himمَعَكُمْwith youحَتَّىٰuntilتُعَاهِدُواyou pledgeاللَّهَto Allah
I will not send him with you until you pledge to Allah
أَنَّكُمْthat youتَرْجِعُونَwill returnبِهِۦٓwith himإِلَّآexceptأَنthatتُغْلَبُوٓاْyou are overcomeعَلَىٰٓinأَمْرِكُمْ.your affair.
that you will return with him, unless you are overcome by your affair.
وَعَاهَدُواْAnd they pledgedاللَّهَ،to Allah,
And they pledged to Allah,
وَقَالَand saidيَعْقُوبُ:Jacob:اللَّهُAllahعَلَىٰoverمَاwhatنَقُولُwe sayوَكِيلٌis a Trustee.
and Jacob said: Allah is a Trustee over what we say.
وَقَالَAnd saidيَعْقُوبُJacobلِلْبَنِينَ:to the sons:
And Jacob said to the sons:
﴿يَـٰبَنِىَّO my sons,لَاdo notتَدْخُلُواْenterمِنfromبَابٍgateوَاحِدٍone
O my sons, do not enter from one gate
وَادْخُلُواْand enterمِنfromأَبْوَابٍgatesمُّتَفَرِّقَةٍۭdifferent.
and enter from different gates.
٢٠20––بِنْيَامِينُBenjaminعِنْدَwithيُوسُفَJoseph
20 - Benjamin with Joseph
وَدَخَلَAnd enteredٱلْإِخْوَةُthe brothersمِنْfromأَبْوَابٍgatesمُّتَفَرِّقَةٍdifferent
And the brothers entered from different gates
كَمَاasأَمَرَهُمْordered themأَبُوهُمْtheir fatherوَوَصَلُوٓاْand arrivedإِلَىٰtoيُوسُفَ.Joseph.
as their father ordered them and arrived to Joseph.
وَلَمَّاAnd whenرَءَاsawيُوسُفُJosephبِنْيَامِينَBenjaminفَرِحَhe rejoicedجِدًّاgreatly
And when Joseph saw Benjamin, he rejoiced greatly
وَأَنزَلَهُۥand lodged himفِىinبَيْتِهِۦ.his house.
and lodged him in his house.
وَقَالَAnd saidيُوسُفُJosephلِبِنْيَامِينَto Benjamin﴿إِنِّىٓIndeed Iأَنَاamأَخُوكَyour brother
And Joseph said to Benjamin: Indeed I am your brother
وَٱطْمَأَنَّAnd was reassuredبِنْيَامِينُBenjaminوَلَقِىَand metيُوسُفُJosephبِنْيَامِينَBenjaminبَعْدَafterزَمَنٍa timeطَوِيلٍlong
And Benjamin was reassured and Joseph met Benjamin after a long time
فَذَكَرَand rememberedأُمَّهُۥhis motherوَأَبَاهُand his fatherوَذَكَرَand rememberedبَيْتَهُۥhis houseوَذَكَرَand rememberedصِغَرَهُۥ.his childhood.
and remembered his mother and his father, and remembered his house, and remembered his childhood.
وَأَرَادَAnd wantedيُوسُفُJosephأَنthatيَبْقَىٰstayعِنْدَهُۥwith himبِنْيَامِينُ،Benjamin,
And Joseph wanted Benjamin to stay with him,
يَرَاهُhe sees himكُلَّeveryيَوْمٍdayوَيُكَلِّمُهُۥand speaks to himوَيَسْأَلُهُۥand asks himعَنْaboutبَيْتِهِۦ.his house.
so he could see him every day and speak to him and ask him about his house.
وَلَـٰكِنْButكَيفَhowٱلسَّبِيلُis the wayإِلَىٰtoذَٰلِكَ،that,
But how is the way to that,
وَبِنْيَامِينُand Benjaminرَاجِعٌis returningغَدًاtomorrowإِلَىٰtoكَنْعَانَ؟Canaan?
and Benjamin is returning tomorrow to Canaan?
وَAndكَيفَhowٱلسَّبِيلُis the wayإِلَىٰtoذَٰلِكَthat
And how is the way to that
وَٱلْإِخْوَةُwhile the brothersعَـٰهَدُواْhave pledgedٱللَّهَto Allahعَلَىٰٓthatأَنtheyيَرْجِعُواْwill returnبِهِۦwith him?
while the brothers have pledged to Allah that they will return with him?
