رُؤْيَاA visionعَجِيبَةٌwondrous
A Wondrous Vision
كَانَWasيُوسُفُYusufوَلَدًاa boyصَغِيرًاyoung,
Yusuf was a young boy,
وَكَانَand hadلَهُheأَحَدَelevenعَشَرَtenأَخًاbrothers,
and he had eleven brothers,
وَكَانَand wasيُوسُفُYusufغُلَامًاa ladجَمِيلًاhandsome,
and Yusuf was a handsome lad,
وَكَانَand wasيُوسُفُYusufغُلَامًاa ladذَكِيًّاintelligent,
and Yusuf was an intelligent lad,
وَكَانَand wasأَبُوهُhis fatherيَعْقُوبُYaqubيُحِبُّهُloving himأَكْثَرَmoreمِنْthanجَمِيعِallإِخْوَتِهِhis brothers.
and his father Yaqub loved him more than all his brothers.
ذَاتَOneلَيْلَةٍnight,رَأَىsawيُوسُفُYusufرُؤْيَاa visionعَجِيبَةًwondrous.
One night, Yusuf saw a wondrous vision.
رَأَىHe sawأَحَدَelevenعَشَرَtenكَوْكَبًاstars,
He saw eleven stars,
وَرَأَىand he sawالشَّمْسَthe sunوَالْقَمَرَand the moon,
and he saw the sun and the moon,
كُلٌّeachيَسْجُدُprostratingلَهُto him.
each prostrating to him.
تَعَجَّبَWas amazedيُوسُفُYusufالصَّغِيرُthe youngكَثِيرًاgreatly,
The young Yusuf was greatly amazed,
وَمَاand did notفَهِمَunderstandهَذِهِthisالرُّؤْيَاvision,
and did not understand this vision,
كَيْفَhowتَسْجُدُprostrateالْكَوَاكِبُthe starsوَالشَّمْسُand the sunوَالْقَمَرُand the moonلِرَجُلٍto a man?
how can the stars, the sun, and the moon prostrate to a man?
ذَهَبَWentيُوسُفُYusufالصَّغِيرُthe youngإِلَىtoأَبِيهِhis fatherيَعْقُوبَYaqub,
The young Yusuf went to his father Yaqub,
وَحَكَىand toldلَهُhimهَذِهِthisالرُّؤْيَاvisionالْعَجِيبَةَwondrous.
and told him this wondrous vision.
قَالَHe said,يَاOأَبَتِmy father,
He said, "O my father,
إِنِّيindeed, Iرَأَيْتُhave seenأَحَدَelevenعَشَرَtenكَوْكَبًاstars,
indeed, I have seen eleven stars,
وَالشَّمْسَand the sunوَالْقَمَرَand the moon,
and the sun and the moon,
رَأَيْتُهُمْI saw themلِيto meسَاجِدِينَprostrating."
I saw them prostrating to me."
وَكَانَAnd wasأَبُوهُhis fatherيَعْقُوبُYaqubنَبِيًّاa prophet.
And his father Yaqub was a prophet.
فَرِحَRejoicedيَعْقُوبُYaqubبِهَذِهِat thisالرُّؤْيَاvisionكَثِيرًاgreatly.
Yaqub rejoiced greatly at this vision.
وَقَالَAnd said,بَارَكَmay blessاللَّهُAllahلَكَyouيَاOيُوسُفُYusuf,
And said, "May Allah bless you, O Yusuf,
فَسَيَكُونُfor there will beلَكَfor youشَأْنٌa great status."
for you will have a great status."
هَذِهِThisالرُّؤْيَاvisionبِشَارَةٌis glad tidingsبِعِلْمٍof knowledgeوَنُبُوَّةٍand prophecy.
This vision is glad tidings of knowledge and prophecy.
وَقَدْAnd indeedأَنْعَمَhas bestowed favorاللَّهُAllahعَلَىuponجَدِّكَyour grandfatherإِسْحَاقَIsaac,
And indeed Allah has bestowed favor upon your grandfather Isaac,
وَقَدْand indeedأَنْعَمَhas bestowed favorاللَّهُAllahعَلَىuponجَدِّكَyour grandfatherإِبْرَاهِيمَAbraham.
and indeed Allah has bestowed favor upon your grandfather Abraham.
