وَكَانَAndيُوسُفُYusufيَرَىsaw
And Yusuf saw
أَنَّthatالنَّاسَthe peopleيَخُونُونَwere betraying
that the people were betraying
فِيregardingأَمْوَالِthe wealthاللَّهِ.of God.
regarding the wealth of God.
وَكَانَAndيَرَىhe saw
And he saw
أَنَّthatفِيinالْأَرْضِthe earthخَزَائِنُare treasuresكَثِيرَةٌmany
that in the earth there are many treasures
وَلَكِنَّهَاbut theyضَائِعَةٌ.are lost.
but they are lost.
إِنَّهَاIndeed, theyضَائِعَةٌare lost
Indeed, they are lost
لِأَنَّbecauseالْأُمَرَاءَthe rulersلَاdo notيَخَافُونَfearاللَّهَGodفِيهَا،regarding them,
because the rulers do not fear God regarding them,
فَتَأْكُلُso eatكِلَابُهُمْtheir dogs
so their dogs eat
وَلَاwhile notيَجِدُfindingالنَّاسُdo the peopleمَاwhatيَأْكُلُونَ،to eat,
while the people do not find what to eat,
وَتَلْبَسُand are adornedبُيُوتُهُمْtheir homes
and their homes are adorned
وَلَاwhile notيَجِدُfindingالنَّاسُdo the peopleمَاwhatيَلْبَسُونَ.to wear.
while the people do not find what to wear.
وَلَاAnd does notيَنْفَعُbenefitالنَّاسَthe people
And the treasures of the earth do not benefit the people
بِخَزَائِنِfrom the treasuresالْأَرْضِof the earth
from the treasures of the earth
إِلَّاexceptمَنْthe one whoكَانَwasحَفِيظًاa guardianعَلِيمًا.knowledgeable.
except for him who was a guardian and knowledgeable.
وَمَنْAnd whoeverكَانَwasحَفِيظًاa guardianوَمَاand was notكَانَbeingعَلِيمًاknowledgeable
And whoever was a guardian but not knowledgeable
لَاdoes notيَعْلَمُknowأَيْنَwhereخَزَائِنُthe treasuresالْأَرْضِof the earth are
does not know where the treasures of the earth are
وَكَيْفَand howيَنْتَفِعُto benefitبِهَا.from them.
and how to benefit from them.
وَمَنْAnd whoeverكَانَwasعَلِيمًاknowledgeableوَمَاand was notكَانَbeingحَفِيظًاa guardian
And whoever was knowledgeable but not a guardian
يَأْكُلُwould eatمِنْهَاfrom themوَيَخُونُand betrayفِيهَا.regarding them.
would eat from them and betray regarding them.
وَكَانَAndيُوسُفُYusufحَفِيظًاwas a guardianعَلِيمًا،knowledgeable,
And Yusuf was a guardian and knowledgeable,
وَكَانَandيُوسُفُYusufلَاdid notيُرِيدُwantأَنْtoيَتْرُكَleave
and Yusuf did not want to leave
الْأُمَرَاءَthe rulersيَأْكُلُونَeatingأَمْوَالَthe wealthالنَّاسِ،of the people,
the rulers eating the wealth of the people,
وَكَانَandيُوسُفُYusufلَاcould notيَقْدِرُbearأَنْtoيَرَىsee
and Yusuf could not bear to see
النَّاسَthe peopleيَجُوعُونَstarvingوَيَمُوتُونَ.and dying.
the people starving and dying.
وَكَانَAndيُوسُفُYusufلَاwas notيَسْتَحْيِيashamedمِنَofالْحَقِّ،the truth,
And Yusuf was not ashamed of the truth,
فَقَالَso he saidلِلْمَلِكِ:to the king:
so he said to the king:
اجْعَلْنِيMake meعَلَىin charge ofخَزَائِنِthe treasuresالْأَرْضِof the earth;
Make me in charge of the treasures of the earth;
إِنِّيindeed Iحَفِيظٌam a guardian,عَلِيمٌ.knowledgeable.
indeed I am a guardian, knowledgeable.
وَهَكَذَاAnd thusكَانَwasيُوسُفُYusufأَمِينًاa trusteeلِخَزَائِنِover the treasuresمِصْرَ.of Egypt.
And thus Yusuf became the trustee over the treasures of Egypt.
وَاسْتَرَاحَAnd restedالنَّاسُthe peopleجِدًّاgreatly
And the people rested greatly
وَحَمَدُواand praisedاللَّهَ.God.
and praised God.
