بِسْمِIn the name ofاللَّهِAllahالرَّحْمَـٰنِthe Most Graciousالرَّحِيمِthe Most Merciful
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
(وَ(Andبِهِwith Himنَسْتَعِينُwe seek help
And with Him we seek help,
وَلَاand there is noحَوْلَpowerوَلَاand noقُوَّةًstrengthإِلَّاexceptبِاللَّهِby Allahالْعَلِيِّthe Most Highالْعَظِيمِ)the Most Great)
and there is no power and no strength except by Allah, the Most High, the Most Great.
الْحَمْدُAll praiseلِلَّهِis for Allahرَبِّthe Lordالْعَالَمِينَof the worlds
All praise is for Allah, the Lord of the worlds,
وَالْعَاقِبَةُand the outcomeلِلْمُتَّقِينَis for the righteous
and the outcome is for the righteous,
وَلَاand there is noعُدْوَانٌaggressionإِلَّاexceptعَلَىuponالظَّالِمِينَthe wrongdoers.
and there is no aggression except upon the wrongdoers.
وَأَشْهَدُAnd I bear witnessأَنَّthatلَاthere is noإِلَٰهَdeityإِلَّاexceptاللَّهُAllah
And I bear witness that there is no deity except Allah
وَحْدَهُaloneلَاthere is noشَرِيكَpartnerلَهُfor Him
alone, with no partner for Him,
رَبُّthe Lordالْعَالَمِينَof the worldsوَإِلَٰهُand the Godالْمُرْسَلِينَof the messengers
the Lord of the worlds and the God of the messengers,
وَقَيُّومُand the Sustainerالسَّمَاوَاتِof the heavensوَالأَرْضِينَand the earths.
and the Sustainer of the heavens and the earths.
وَأَشْهَدُAnd I bear witnessأَنَّthatمُحَمَّدًاMuhammadعَبْدُهُis His servantوَرَسُولُهُand His messenger
And I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and His messenger,
الْمَبْعُوثُwho was sentبِالْكِتَابِwith the Bookالْمُبِينِthat makes things clear
who was sent with the Book that makes things clear,
الْفَارِقُthe differentiatorبَيْنَbetweenالْهُدَىguidanceوَالضَّلَالِand misguidance
the differentiator between guidance and misguidance,
وَالْغَيِّand devianceوَالرَّشَادِand righteousness
and deviance and righteousness,
وَالشَّكِّand doubtوَالْيَقِينِand certainty.
and doubt and certainty.
أَنْزَلَهُHe sent it downلِنَقْرَأَهُso that we may read itتَدَبُّرًاwith reflection
He sent it down so that we may read it with reflection,
وَنَتَأَمَّلَهُand contemplate itتَبَصُّرًاwith insight
and contemplate it with insight,
وَنَسْعَدَand find joyبِهِin itتَذَكُّرًاwith remembrance
and find joy in it with remembrance,
وَنَحْمِلَهُand carry itعَلَىaccording toأَحْسَنِthe bestوُجُوهِهِof its aspectsوَمَعَانِيهِand meanings
and carry it according to the best of its aspects and meanings,
وَنُصَدِّقَand believeبِهِin itوَنَجْتَهِدَand striveعَلَىtoإِقَامَةِestablishأَوَامِرِهِits commandsوَنَوَاهِيهِand prohibitions.
and believe in it and strive to establish its commands and prohibitions.
وَنَجْتَنِيَAnd reapثَمَارَthe fruitsعُلُومِهِof its knowledgeالنَّافِعَةِthe beneficial
And reap the fruits of its beneficial knowledge
الْمُوصِلَةِwhich leadإِلَىtoاللَّهِAllahسُبْحَانَهُGlory be to Him
which lead to Allah, Glory be to Him,
مِنْfromأَشْجَارِهِits treesوَرَيَاحِينِهِand fragrant plants
from its trees and fragrant plants
الْحِكْمَةِof wisdomمِنْfromبَيْنِamongرِيَاضِهِits gardensوَأَزْهَارِهِand flowers.
of wisdom from among its gardens and flowers.
فَهُوَIndeed, it isكِتَابُهُHis Bookالدَّالُّthat guidesعَلَيْهِtowards Him
Indeed, it is His Book that guides towards Him
لِمَنْfor whoeverأَرَادَwantsمَعْرِفَتَهُto know Him
for whoever wants to know Him,
وَطَرِيقُهُand His pathالْمُوصِلَةُthat leadsلِسَالِكِهَاto those who walk on itإِلَيْهِto Him,
and His path that leads those who walk on it to Him,
وَنُورُهُand His lightالْمُبِينُthat makes things clearالَّذِيwhichأَشْرَقَتْilluminatesلَهُfor itالظُّلُمَاتُthe darknesses
and His light that makes things clear which illuminates the darknesses,
وَرَحْمَتُهُand His mercyالْمُهْدَاةُgiftedالَّتِيwhichبِهَاwith itصَلَاحُrectificationالْمَخْلُوقَاتِof the creatures,
and His mercy gifted through which is the rectification of the creatures,
وَالسَّبَبُand the reasonالْوَاصِلُthat connectsبَيْنَهُbetween HimوَبَيْنَandعِبَادِهِHis servantsإِذَاifانْقَطَعَتْcauses are cut off,
and the connection between Him and His servants if causes are cut off,
وَبَابُهُand His doorالْأَعْظَمُthe greatestالَّذِيthrough whichمِنْهُisالدُّخُولُentry
and His greatest door through which is entry,
فَلَاso it does notيُغْلَقُcloseإِذَاwhenغُلِقَتْdoors are closed.
so it does not close when doors are closed.
وَهُوَAnd it isالصِّرَاطُthe pathالْمُسْتَقِيمُthe straightالَّذِيwhichلَاdoes notتَمِيلُdeviateبِهِwith itالْآرَاءُopinions
And it is the straight path from which opinions do not deviate,
وَالذِّكْرُand the remembranceالْحَكِيمُthat is wiseالَّذِيwhichلَاdoes notتَزِيغُstrayبِهِwith itالْأَهْوَاءُdesires,
and the wise remembrance with which desires do not stray,
وَالنُّزُلُand the revelationالْكَرِيمُthat is generousالَّذِيwhichلَاdoes notيُشْبِعُsatisfyمِنْهُfrom itالْعُلَمَاءُthe scholars,
and the generous revelation of which scholars never have enough,
لَاneverتَفْنَىendعَجَائِبُهُits wonders
its wonders never end,
وَلَاand neitherتَنْقَضِيare completedعَجَائِبُهُits wonders
and neither are its wonders exhausted,
وَلَاand neitherتَنْقَضِيdo endآيَاتُهُits verses
and its verses do not come to an end,
وَلَاand neitherتَخْتَلِفُdo contradictدَلَالَاتُهُits indications.
and its indications do not contradict each other.
كُلَّمَاWheneverازْدَادَتِincreaseالْبَصَائِرُthe insightsفِيهِin itتَأَمُّلًاthrough contemplationوَتَفْكِيرًاand reflection,
Whenever insights increase in it through contemplation and reflection,
زَادَهَاit increases themهُدًىin guidanceوَتَبْصِيرًاand insight.
it increases them in guidance and insight.
وَكُلَّمَاAnd wheneverبَجَسْتُI delved intoمَعِينَهُits spring,
And whenever I delved into its spring,
فَجَّرَit causedلَهَاfor itيَنَابِيعَspringsالْحِكْمَةِof wisdomتَفْجِيرًاto gush forth.
it caused springs of wisdom to gush forth for it.
فَهُوَIndeed, it isنُورُthe lightالْبَصَائِرِof insightsمِنْfromعَمَاهَاtheir blindness,
Indeed, it is the light of insights rescuing them from blindness,
وَشِفَاءٌand a cureلِلصُّدُورِfor the heartsمِنْfromأَدْوَائِهَاtheir ailmentsوَجَوَاهَاand their griefs,
and a cure for the hearts from their ailments and griefs,
وَحَيَاةُand the lifeالْقُلُوبِof hearts,وَلَذَّةُand the delightالنُّفُوسِof souls,
and the life of hearts, and the delight of souls,
وَرِيَاضُand the gardensالْقُلُوبِof hearts,
and the gardens of hearts,
وَحَادِيand the guideالْأَرْوَاحِof spiritsإِلَىtoبِلَادِthe landsالْأَفْرَاحِof joy.
and the guide of spirits to the lands of joy.
وَالْمُنَادِيAnd the callerبِالْمَسَاءِin the eveningوَالصَّبَاحِand the morning:
And the caller in the evening and the morning:
يَاOأَهْلَpeopleالْفَلَاحِof success,
O people of success,
حَيُّواcomeعَلَىtoالْجَمِيعِall.
come to all.
