وَعَلَىAnd onالْقَوْلِthe sayingالْأَوَّلِthe first

And on the first saying: it would be attributed to the idol of the disbelievers and the idol of the righteous.

وَالْقَوْلَانِAnd the two sayingsمُتَلَازَمَانِare intertwinedفَبَعْضُهُمْfor some of themذَكَرَmentionedهَذَاthisوَبَعْضُهُمْand some of themذَكَرَmentionedهَذَاthis

And the two sayings are intertwined; some mentioned this and others mentioned that.

وَكِلَاهُمَاAnd both of themمُرَادٌare intendedفِيinالْآيَةِthe verse.

And both of them are intended in the verse.

قَالَHe saidوَقِيلَand it was saidكِلَاهُمَاboth of themلِلْمُؤْمِنِfor the believerوَالْكَافِرِand the disbelieverيَرَوِيَnarrated byعَطِيَّةَAtiyahعَنْfromابْنِIbnعَبَّاسٍAbbas.

He said, and it was said: both are for the believer and the disbeliever, narrated by Atiyah from Ibn Abbas.

وَقَالَAnd saidعَطَاءٌAtaالْأَبْكَمُthe muteأَبِيAbuابْنِibnخَلَفٍKhalafوَمَنْand whoeverيَأْمُرُcommandsبِالْعَدْلِwith justiceحَمْزَةًHamzahوَعُثْمَانَand UthmanابْنَibnعُفَانَAffanوَعُثْمَانَand UthmanابْنَibnمَظْعُونٍMadh'un.

And Ata said: 'the mute is Abu ibn Khalaf, and those who command justice are Hamzah and Uthman ibn Affan and Uthman ibn Madh'un.'

I said: and the verse can accommodate it and does not contradict the two sayings before it.

فَإِنَّFor indeedاللَّهَAllahعَلَىis onصِرَاطٍthe pathمُسْتَقِيمٍstraight.

For indeed Allah is on the straight path.

And His Messenger and the followers of His Messenger are against that: the idol of the disbelievers and their guide.

وَالْكَافِرُAnd the disbelieverالتَّابِعُthe followerوَالْمَتْبُوعُand the one followedوَالْمَعْبُودُand the idol.

And the disbeliever, the follower, the one followed, and the idol.

فَيَكُونُSo it would beبَعْضُsomeالسَّلَفِof the predecessorsذَكَرَmentionedأَعْلَىthe highestالْأَنْوَاعِtypes.

So it would be that some of the predecessors mentioned the highest types.

وَبَعْضُهُمْAnd some of themذَكَرَmentionedالْهَادِيَthe guide.

And some of them mentioned the guide.

وَبَعْضُهُمْAnd some of themذَكَرَmentionedالْمُسْتَجِيبَthe responderالْقَابِلَthe acceptor.

And some of them mentioned the responder and the acceptor.

وَتَكُونُAnd the verseمَتَنَاوِلَةًis encompassingلِذَٰلِكَall of thatكُلَّهُall.

And the verse is encompassing all of that.

وَلِذَٰلِكَAnd for thatنَظَائِرُthere are parallelsكَثِيرَةٌmanyفِيinالْقُرْآنِthe Quran.

And for that, there are many parallels in the Quran.

وَأَمَّاAnd as forآيَةُthe verseهُودٍHud:فَصَرِيحَةٌit is explicitلَاand does notتَحْتَمِلُallowإِلَّاexceptمَعْنًىfor one meaningوَاحِدًاonly.

And as for the verse of Hud: it is explicit and allows only one meaning.

وَهُوَAnd it isأَنْthatاللَّهَAllahسُبْحَانَهُGlory be to Himعَلَىis onصِرَاطٍthe pathمُسْتَقِيمٍstraight.

And it is that Allah, Glory be to Him, is on the straight path.

And He is more worthy than anyone who is on the straight path.
