So the term 'taste' is used in everything that one perceives with it and finds its pain or pleasure. Thus, the claim of the claimant to limit the word taste only to what is in the mouth is a ruling from him, however, that is limited and it is said: 'I tasted the food, and I tasted this drink,' and it thus has constraints indicating that it is a taste of the mouth. And if taste is used in what a person feels with his inner self or outer self, even hot water, it is said: 'he tasted it.' Therefore, for drinks when they are cold or hot, it is said: 'I tasted its heat and its coldness.'

As for the term 'clothing': it is used in everything that covers a person and what he wears with it. The Exalted said: 'And We made the night as clothing' (An-Naba: ). And 'the clothing of piety – that is better' (Al-A'raf: 25). And He said: 'They are clothing for you and you are clothing for them' (Al-Baqarah: 187). And from it, it is said: 'He mixed the truth with falsehood if he mixed it with it until it covered him, so it did not distinguish.' Thus, the hunger which includes all of the hungry's self and body. Likewise, the fear which covers the body. If it is said: 'Then Allah made them taste the hunger and the fear,' that does not indicate that it is inclusive of all parts of the hungry, in contrast to when it is said: 'the clothing of hunger and fear.' If it were said: 'Then He dressed them,' it would not indicate that they tasted what causes them pain except by reason, as it knows that the hungry and fearful suffer, unlike the word 'the taste of hunger and fear,' for this term indicates the feeling of pain, and if it is added to the pleasurable, it indicates the feeling of it, as His saying: 'He tasted the flavor of faith who is pleased with Allah as his Lord, with Islam as his religion, and with Muhammad (peace be upon him) as a Prophet.' If it is said: 'Then why were not the blessings of Paradise described by taste?' it is said: 'Because taste does indicate a kind of feeling.' And it is said: 'tasted the food for whoever found its taste and if he did not eat it.' And the people of Paradise.
