النَّبِيُّthe Prophet(peace be upon him)لَمَّاwhenقِيلَit was saidلَهُto him::الرَّجُلُthe manيُحِبُّlovesالْقَوْمَthe peopleوَلَمَّاand whenيَلْحَقُhe joinsبِهِمْ؟them?

When it was said to the Prophet (peace be upon him): 'Does a man love the people and yet not join them?' He replied: 'A man is with whom he loves.'

قَالَ:He said:«الْمَرْءُ'The personمَعَis withمَنwhomأَحَبَّhe loves..

He said: 'The person is with whom he loves.'

وَقَالَ:And he said:«الأَرْوَاحُ'Soulsجُنُودٌare like soldiersمُجَنَّدَةٌ،gathered,فَمَاwhatتَعَارَفَis acquaintedمِنْهَاfrom themاِئْتَلَفَ،they get along,وَمَاand whatتَنَاكَرَis not acquaintedمِنْهَاfrom themاِخْتَلَفَ»they differ.'

And he said: 'Souls are like soldiers; those that know each other get along, and those that do not know each other differ.'

وَقَالَAnd he said::الْمُؤْمِنُ'A personعَلَىis onدِينِthe religionخَلِيلِهِof his friendفَلْيَنظُرْso let one of you lookأَحَدُكُمْat whomمِنْhe befriendsيُخَالِلْ.'

And he said: 'A person is on the religion of his friend, so let one of you look at whom he befriends.'

،,وَزَوْجُAnd the pairالشَّيْءِof a thingنَظِيرُهُ،is its counterpart.وَسُمِّيَAnd it is calledالنِّصْفُthe halfزَوْجًاa pairلِتَشَابُهُbecause of similarityأَفْرَادِهِ،of its individuals,كَقَوْلِهِas in the statement::أَنْبَتْنَا'We cause to growفِيhain itمِنْofزَوْجٍpairsكُلٍّeveryنَوْعٍkindكَرِيمٍnoble.'

And the pair of a thing is its counterpart, and a half is called a pair because of the similarity of its individuals, as in the statement: 'We cause to grow in it pairs of every noble kind.'
