وَمِثْلُand suchهَذِهِthisالسُّكِينَةُtranquilityقَدْmayلَاnotتَكُونَbeمَقْدُورَةًwithin reachوَلَكِنَّbutاللَّهَAllahيَجْعَلُplacesذَلِكَthatفِيinقَلْبِهِhis heartفَضْلًاas a favorمِنْهُfrom Himوَجَزَاءًand a rewardعَلَىforعَمَلٍa deedسَابِقٍpreviousكَمَاasقَالَHe said
And such tranquility may not be within reach, but Allah places that in his heart as a favor from Him and a reward for a previous deed, as He said.
﴾وَلَوْ﴾And ifأَنَّهُمْtheyفَعَلُواhad doneمَاwhatيُوعَظُونَthey were advisedبِهِwith itلَكَانَit would have beenخَيْرًاbetterلَهُمْfor themوَأَشَدَّand more firmlyتَثْبِيتًاestablished.وَإِذَاAnd ifلَآتَيْنَهُمWe would give themمِّنfromلَدُنَّاUsأَجْرًاa great rewardعَظِيمًاgreat.وَلَهَدَيْنَهُمْAnd we would guide themصِرَاطًاto a pathمُسْتَقِيمًاstraight.
﴾And if they had done what they were advised with, it would have been better for them and more firmly established. And if We would have given them from Us a great reward, and we would have guided them to a straight path.§
[النساء][An-Nisa],,كَمَاasقَالَHe said:
[An-Nisa], as He said:
﴾اتَّقُوا﴾FearاللَّهَAllahوَعَامِنُواand believeبِرَسُولِهِin His MessengerيُؤْتِكُمْHe will give youكِفَلَيْنِtwo portionsمِنofرَحْمَتِهِ،His mercy,وَيَجْعَلَand He will makeلَّكُمْfor youنُورًاa lightتَمْشُونَby which you walkبِهِwith it﴾﴾
﴾Fear Allah and believe in His Messenger; He will give you two portions of His mercy, and He will make for you a light by which you walk﴾.
[الحديد:[Al-Hadid:۲۸]28],,وَكَمَاand asقَالَHe said:
[Al-Hadid: 28], and as He said:
﴾أُوْلَـٰئِكَ﴾ThoseكَتَبَHe has writtenفِيinقُلُوبِهِمُtheir heartsالإِيمَانَfaithوَأَيَّدَهُمand He has strengthened themبِرُوحٍwith a spiritمِّنْهُfrom Him.﴿المُجَادَلَةِ:﴿Al-Mujadila:٢٢]22],,وَلِهَذَاand for thisقِيلَ:it is said:
﴾Those, He has written in their hearts faith and has strengthened them with a spirit from Him.﴿ Al-Mujadila: 22. And for this it is said:
مَنwhoeverعَمِلَworksبِمَاwith whatعَلِمَhe knowsأَوْرَثَهُGod gives himاللَّهُAllahعِلْمًاknowledgeمَاwhatلَمhe did notيَعْلَمknow.
Whoever works with what he knows, Allah gives him knowledge of what he does not know.
وَهَذَاAnd thisالْجِنْسُkindغَيْرُis notمَقْدُورٍwithin reachلِلْعِبَادِfor the servantsوَإِنْand ifكَانَit isمَاwhatيَقْدِرُونَthey are ableعَلَيْهِto doمِنَofالأَعْمَالِactionsالظَّاهِرَةِapparentوَالْبَاطِنَةِand hiddenفَهُوَisأَيْضًاalsoبِفَضْلِby the graceاللَّهِof Allahوَإِعَانَتِهِand His helpوَإِقْدَارِهِand His enabling.
And this kind is not within reach of the servants; and if what they are able to do of apparent and hidden actions is also by the grace of Allah, and His help, and His enabling.
لَكِنَّButالْأُمُورَthe mattersقِسْمَانِ:are two types:مِنْهَاSome of itمَاwhatجِنْسُهُis of a typeمَقْدُورٍwithin reachلَهُمْfor themلِإِعَانَةِto helpاللَّهُAllahلَهُمْ،for them,كَالْقِيَامِlike standingوَالْقُعُودِ،and sitting.وَمِنْهَاAnd some of it isمَاwhatجِنْسُهُis of a typeغَيْرُnotمَقْدُورٍwithin reachلَهُمْ،for them.
But the matters are two types: some of it what is of a type within reach for them for Allah’s help, like standing and sitting. And some of it is of a type that is not within reach for them.
إِذَاIfقِيلَ:it is said:إِنَّthat Allahاللَّهَ:givesيُعْطِيto those who obey Himمِمَّنْfrom amongأَطَاعَهُHis obedient a strengthقُوَّةًin their heartsفِيand bodies.قَلْبِهِand body.وَيَدْنَهُThis power with which they are ableيَكُونَto do what others cannot.بِهَاSo this is also trueقَادِرًاand is from this meaning.
If it is said that Allah gives to those who obey Him a strength in their hearts and bodies, this is also true and is from this meaning.
قَالَHe saidتَعَالَى:the Most High:﴿إِذْ﴾When.يُوحِيHe inspiresرَبُّكَyour Lordإِلَىtoالْمَلَائِكَةِthe angelsأَنِّيthat indeedمَعَكُمْI am with you.فَتَنُواSo strengthenالَّذِينَthose who believe.آمَنُواbelieved.﴾﴾
﴾When your Lord inspired the angels that indeed I am with you; so strengthen those who have believed.﴾
[الأنفال[Al-Anfal::۱۲]12],,وَقَدْAnd He said:قَالَHe said:إِذَاIfلَقِيتُمْyou meetفِئَةًa groupفَاثْبُتُوا)then remain steadfast.﴾﴾
[Al-Anfal: 12]. And He said: If you meet a group, then remain steadfast.
وَقَدْAnd He has also said:قَالَ:He said:إِذَاWhenلَقِيتُمْyou meetفِئَةًa groupفَاثْبُتُوا)then remain steadfast.﴾﴾
He has also said: When you meet a group, then remain steadfast.
[الأنفال[Al-Anfal:,٤٦]46],,فَأَمَرَهُمْHe commanded themبِالثَّبَاتِto be steadfast.وَهَذَاAnd thisالثَّبَاتُsteadfastnessيُوحَىis inspiredإِلَىtoالْمَلَائِكَةِthe angelsأَنَّهُمْthat theyيَفْعَلُونَهُdo it with the believers.
And this steadfastness is inspired to the angels that they do it with the believers.
الْمَقْصُودُThe aimأَنَّهُis thatقَدْthere may beيَكُونَbeمِنَamong someالإِيمَانِfaithمَاthat whichيُؤْمَرُis commandedبِهِby itبَعْضُsomeالنَّاسِpeopleوَيُذَمُّand is condemnedعَلَىforتَرْكِهِ،not doing it.وَلَاAnd notيُذَمُّis condemnedعَلَيْهِfor it.بَعْضٌsomeالنَّاسِpeopleمِمَّنْfrom thoseلَاwho do notيَقْدِرُونَhave the abilityعَلَيْهِto do it.وَيُفَضِّلُAnd Allah prefersاللَّهُsuch byذَاكَthat
The aim is that there may be among some faith what is commanded by some people and is condemned for not doing it, and not condemned for it are some people who do not have the ability to do it. And Allah prefers such by that faith.
وَإِنْAnd ifلَمْnotيَكُنْbeالْمَفْضُولُthe less preferredتَرْكَabandonmentوَاجِبًاan obligation.فَيُقَالُIt is said:وَكَذَٰلِكَAnd likewiseفِيinالأَعْمَالِthe actionsالظَّاهِرَةِapparentيُؤْمَرُthe capable are commandedالْقَادِرُthe ableعَلَىtoالفِعْلِdoبِمَاwhatلَاnotيُؤْمَرُcommanded.بِهِwith.
And if the less preferred did not mean abandoning an obligation, it is said: And likewise, in apparent actions, the capable are commanded to do what others are not commanded to do.
لَكِنَّButالأَعْمَالُthe actionsالظَّاهِرَةُapparentقَدْmayيُعْطَىbe givenالإِنْسَانَa personمِثْلَsimilar toأَجْرِrewardالْعَامِلِof the workerإِذَاifكَانَhe isيُؤْمِنُbelievingبِهَاin itوَيُرِيدُهَاand desires itبِجُهْدِهِwith his effort.وَلَكِنَّButبَدَنَهُhis bodyعَاجِزٌis unable.كَمَاAsقَالَthe Prophet saidفِيinالْحَدِيثِthe hadithالصَّحِيحِ:the authentic:«إِنَّ"Indeedبِالْمَدِينَةِin Medina
But the apparent actions may be given a person similar to the reward of the worker if he is believing in it and desires it with his effort. But his body is unable. As the Prophet said in the authentic hadith:
إِنَّ"Indeedبِالْمَدِينَةِin Medinaلَرِجَالًَاthere are menمَاwhoسَرَتُّمyou walked.مَسِيرًاfor any movement.وَلَاand notقَطَعْتُمْcrossedوَادِيًاa valleyإِلَّاbutكَانُواthey wereمَعَكُمْ»with you."
"Indeed, in Medina there are men who, when you walked for any movement or crossed a valley, they were with you."
قَالُوا:They said:وَهُمْBut they wereبِالْمَدِينَةِ؟in Medina?قَالَ:He said:«وَهُمْ"They areبِالْمَدِينَةِin Medina,حَبَسَهُمْheld back by theالعُذْرِexcuse.
They said: But they were in Medina? He said: "They are in Medina, held back by the excuse."
