وَالَىٰand toالْمَالَthe wealthعَلَىٰuponحُبِّهِhis loveذَوِيof relativesالْقُرْبَىٰthe near onesوَandالْيَتَامَىٰthe orphansوَandالْمَسَاكِينِthe needyوَandابْنَthe son ofالسَّبِيلِthe wayfarerوَandالسَّابِلِينَthose who are destituteوَفِيand inالْرِّقَابِthe necksوَandأَقَامَhe establishedالصَّلَاةَthe prayerوَإِلَىٰand toالزَّكَاةَthe almsgivingوَandالْمُوفُونَthose who fulfillبِعَهْدِهِمْtheir promisesإِذَاwhenعَهَدُواthey make a covenantوَandالصَّابِرِينَthe patientفِيinالْبَأْسَاءِthe adversityوَالضَّرَّاءِand the calamityوَحِينَand at the time ofالْبَأْسِthe battleأُولَـٰئِكَthose areالَّذِينَthe ones whoصَدَقُواwere truthfulوَandأُولَـٰئِكَthose areهُمْtheyالْمُتَّقُونَthe pious
And to the wealth upon his love, of relatives, orphans, the needy, the son of the wayfarer, and the destitute and in the necks, and he established the prayer and to the almsgiving, and those who fulfill their promises when they make a covenant, and the patient in the adversity and calamity and at the time of battle; those are the ones who were truthful, and they are the pious.
ثُمَّThenقَالَsaidأَبُوAbuعَبْدِAbdullahاللَّهAllahمُحَمَّدٌMuhammadبْنُbinنَصْرٍNasr
Then Abu Abdullah Muhammad bin Nasr said:
اختلفَdisagreedأَصْحَابُنَاour companionsفِيinتَفْسِيرِexplainingقَوْلِthe sayingالنَّبِيِّof the Prophetﷺpeace be upon him.
Our companions disagreed in explaining the saying of the Prophet (peace be upon him).
لَا يَزْنِيThe fornicator does not commit adulteryالزَّانِيُthe fornicatorحِينَwhileيَزْنِيhe commits adulteryوَهُوَwhile he isمُؤْمِنٌa believer.
The fornicator does not commit adultery while he is a believer.
فَقَالَتْSo a group saidطَائِفَةٌa groupمِنْهُمْof themإِنَّمَاindeedأَرَادَhe intendedالنَّبِيُّthe Prophetﷺpeace be upon him.
So a group said that indeed the Prophet (peace be upon him) intended.
إِزَالَةَto removeاسْمِthe titleالإِيمَانِof faithعَنْهُfrom himمِنwithoutغَيْرِremovingأَنْthatيُخْرِجَهُhe expelsمِنْfromالإِسْلَامِIslam.
to remove the title of faith from him without expelling him from Islam.
وَلَاAnd do notيُزِيلُواremoveعَنْهُit from him.اسْمَهُhis title
And do not remove it from him.
وَفَرَّقُواAnd they differentiatedبَيْنَbetweenالإِيمَانِfaithوَandالإِسْلَامِIslam.
And they differentiated between faith and Islam.
فَقَالُواThey said:إِذَاIfزَنَىhe commits adulteryفَلَيْسَso he is notبِمُؤْمِنٍa believerوَهُوَwhile he isمُسْلِمٌa Muslim.
They said: If he commits adultery, so he is not a believer while he is a Muslim.
وَاحْتَجُّواAnd they arguedلِتَفْرِيقِهِمfor their differentiationبَيْنَbetweenالإِسْلَامِIslamوَandالإِيمَانِfaith.
And they argued for their differentiation between Islam and faith.
بِقَوْلِهِWith his sayingقَالَتِThe Bedouins said,الْأَعْرَابُthe Bedouinsوَآمَنَّاand we believe;قُلْSay:لَمْDid notتُؤْمِنُواyou believe?وَلَكِنButقُولُواsay:أَسْلَمْنَاWe have submitted.وَلَمَّاAnd whenيَدْخُلِentersالإِيمَانُfaithفِيintoقُلُوبِكُمْyour hearts.
With his saying: "The Bedouins said, 'and we believe;' Say, 'Did you not believe? But say, 'We have submitted.' And when faith has not yet entered your hearts.'
وَإِنْAnd ifتُطِيعُواyou obeyاللَّهَAllahوَandرَسُولَهُHis Messenger.لَاNoيَتَكْمُنَّكُمْwill the penalty return to youمِنْofأَعْمَالِكُمْyour worksشَيْئًاanything.
And if you obey Allah and His Messenger, nothing of your works will be returned to you.
فَقَالُواThey said:الإِيمَانُfaithخَاصٌّis uniqueيَثْبُتُestablishedالِاسْمُthe titleبِهِby it.بِالْعَمَلِby actionمَعَalong withالتَّوحِيدِthe monotheism.
They said: Faith is unique and it is established by action along with monotheism.
وَالإِسْلَامُAnd Islamعَامٌّis general.يَثْبُتُestablishedالِاسْمُthe titleبِالتَّوحِيدِby monotheism.وَالخُروجِand the exitمِنْfromمِلَلِthe sects ofالكُفْرِdisbelief.
And Islam is general; it is established by monotheism and the exit from the sects of disbelief.
وَاحْتَجُّواAnd they arguedبِحَدِيثِwith the hadithسَعْدٍof Sa'dبْنِbinأَبِيAbuوَقَاصٍWaqqas.
And they argued with the hadith of Sa'd bin Abu Waqqas.
وَذَكَرَهُAnd he mentionedعَنْaboutسَعْدٍSa’dأَنَّthatرَسُولَthe Messengerاللَّهِof Allahﷺpeace be upon him.
He mentioned about Sa’d that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him).
أَعْطَىgaveرِجَالًاto menوَلَمْand did notيُعْطِgiveرَجُلًاa manمِنْهُمْamong themشَيْئًاanything.
He gave men and did not give a man among them anything.
فَقُلْتُSo I said:يَاOرَسُولَMessengerاللَّهِof Allah;أَعْطَيْتَYou gaveفُلَانًاso-and-soوَفُلَانًاand so-and-soوَلَمْand did notتُعْطِgiveفُلَانًاso-and-soوَهُوَand he isمُؤْمِنٌa believer,
So I said: O Messenger of Allah! You gave so-and-so and so-and-so, and did not give so-and-so, and he is a believer.
فَقَالَSo he said:رَسُولَthe Messengerاللَّهِof Allah;ﷺpeace be upon him.أَوْOrمُسْلِمٌa Muslim.أَعَادَهَاHe repeated itثَلاثًاthree times,وَالنَّبِيُّand the Prophet
So he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: Or a Muslim. He repeated it three times.
ثُمَّThenقَالَhe said:إِنِّيIndeed Iلَأُعْطِيَنَّwill giveرِجَالًاto menوَأَمْنَعُand will preventآخَرِينَother menهُمْwho areمَخَافَةًafraidأَنْthatيَكْبُواthey fallعَلَىٰuponوُجُوهِهِمْtheir facesفِيinالنَّارِthe fire.
Then he said: Indeed, I will give to men and I will prevent others who are afraid that they might fall on their faces in the fire.
قَالَsaidالزُّهْرِيُّAz-ZuhriفَنَرَىWe seeأَنَّthatأَحَبُّthe most belovedإِلَيْهِمto them.
Az-Zuhri said: We see that the most beloved to them.
الإِسْلَامُIslamالكَلِمَةُthe word,وَالْإِيمَانُand faithالْعَمَلُis action.
Islam is the word, and faith is action.
قَالَSaidمُحَمَّدٌMuhammadبْنُbinنَصْرٍNasrوَاحْتَجُّواAnd they arguedبِإنْكَارِwith the denialعَبْدِAbdullahابْنِbinمَسْعُودٍMas’udعَلَىagainstمَنthose whoشَهِدَtestifiedلِنَفْسِهِfor himselfبِالإِيمَانِin faith.
Muhammad bin Nasr said: And they argued with the denial of Abdullah bin Mas'ud against those who testified for themselves in faith.
فَقَالَHe said:أَنَاI amمُؤْمِنٌa believerمِنْwithoutغَيْرٍany exception,وَكَذَلِكَand likewiseأَصْحَابُهُhis companionsمِنْfromبَعْدِهِafter him.
He said: I am a believer without any exception, and likewise, his companions after him.
وَجُلُّAnd the majorityعُلَمَاءُof the scholarsالْكُوفَةِof Kufaعَلَىare uponذَٰلِكَthat.
And the majority of the scholars of Kufa are upon that.
وَاحْتَجُّواAnd they arguedبِحَدِيثِwith the hadithأَبِيof AbuهُرَيْرَةَHuraira:يَخْرُجُIt will emergeمِنْهُfrom it.الإِيمَانُfaithفَإِنَّهُfor indeed
And they argued with the hadith of Abu Huraira: 'It will emerge from it faith for indeed.
