قِيلَIt was said::هُوَHe isعَابِدٌa worshipperلِرَبِّهِto his Lordمُتَّقٌpiousلِرَبِّهِto his Lordخَائِفٌfearfulلِرَبِّهِto his Lord،, وَكَذَلِكَAnd likewiseتَقُولُyou say::فُلاَنٌSo-and-soيَرْهَبُfearsاللَّهَAllah,, ثُمَّThenتَقُولُyou say::هُوَHe isرَاهِبٌa hermitلِرَبِّهِto his Lord،, وَإِذَاAnd ifذَكَرْتَyou mentionالْفِعْلَthe verbوَأَخَّرْتَهُand you postponed it،, تُقَوِّيَهُyou strengthen itبِالْلَّامِwith 'lam' (the letter)،, كَقَوْلِهِas in his saying::﴿وَفِي نُسْخَتِهَاAnd in its copyهُدًىguidanceوَرَحْمَةٌand mercyلِلَّذِينَfor those whoهُمْthey areلِرَبِّهِمْto their Lordيَرْهَبُونَfear

It was said: He is a worshipper of his Lord, pious to his Lord, fearful of his Lord. And likewise, you say: So-and-so fears Allah. Then you say: He is a hermit to his Lord. And if you mention the verb and postpone it, you strengthen it with 'lam' (the letter), as in the saying: 'And in its copy is guidance and mercy for those who fear their Lord.'

وَقَدْAnd indeedقَالَhe said::فَإِتْنِيSo come to meفَأَرْهَبُونِthen fear me

And indeed, he said: 'So come to me, then fear me.'

فَعَدَّاهُHe made it directبِنَفْسِهِby itself،, وَهُنَاكَAnd thereذُكِرَis mentionالْلَّامَof the 'lam' (the letter)،, فَإِنَّfor indeedهُنَاhereقَوْلَهُhis saying::(فَإِيَّايَ)(Fear only Me)أَتْمُّis more completeمِنْthanقَوْلَهُhis saying::فَلْيَ(Let him be)،, وَقَوْلُهُand his sayingهُنَاكَthere::(لِرَبِّهِمْ)(to their Lord)أَتْمُّis more completeمِنْthanقَوْلَهُhis saying:: رَبِّهِمْtheir Lord،, فَإِنَّfor indeedالضَّمِيرَthe pronounالْمُنْفَصِلَdistinctالْمَنْصُوبَnominativeأَكْمَلُis more completeمِنْthanضَمِيرِthe pronounالْجَرِّgenitiveبِالْيَاءِwith 'ya' (the letter)،, وَهُنَاكَAnd thereاسْمٌa nameظَاهِرٌvisible،, فَتُقَوِّيَتُهُso its strengtheningبِالْلَّامِwith 'lam' (the letter)أَوْلَىis more appropriateوَأَتْمُّand more completeمِنْthanتَجْرِيدِهِits stripping

He made it direct by itself, and there is mention of the 'lam' (the letter), for indeed, here his saying '(Fear only Me)' is more complete than his saying '(Let him be)', and his saying there '(to their Lord)' is more complete than his saying '(their Lord)', for indeed, the distinct pronoun is more complete than the genitive pronoun with 'ya' (the letter), and there is a visible name, so its strengthening with 'lam' is more appropriate and more complete than its stripping.

وَمِنْAnd fromهَذَاthisقَوْلُهُhis saying::وَإِنْAnd ifكُنتُمْyou wereلِلرُّهْنَةِto the seersيَاOhتَعْبُرُونَyou interpret

And from this is his saying: 'And if you were to the seers, oh, you interpret.'

[يُوسُفَ:[Joseph:٤٣]43]وَيُقَالُAnd it is said::عَبَرْتُI interpretedرُؤْيَاهُhis vision،, وَكَذَلِكَand likewiseقَوْلُهُhis saying::﴿وَإِنَّهُمْAnd indeed, theyلَنَاto usلَغَضَبُونَare angry

And it is said: 'I interpreted his vision,' and likewise his saying: 'And indeed, they are angry with us.'

الشُّعَرَاءُ].[The Poets].وَإِنَّمَاAnd indeedيُقَالُit is said::غَضِبَتُهُI caused him to fearلَاnotيُقَالُit is said:: غَضِبْتُI feared for himلَهُto himوَمَثْلُهُand similar to itكَثِيرٌmany

And indeed, it is said: 'I caused him to fear,' not 'I feared for him,' and similar to it is many.

فَقَوْلُSo the sayingالْقَائِلِof the speaker::مَاWhatأَنتَyou areبِمُصَدِّقٍnot a believerلَنَاto us،, أَدْخِلْincludesفِيهِin itالْلَّامَthe 'lam' (the letter)كُونَهُbeingاسْمًاa nounفَاعِلٍsubjectوَإِلَّاand otherwiseفَإِنَّمَاit is onlyيُقَالُ: صَدَقْتُهُI believed himلَاnotيُقَالُ: صَدَقْتُI believed for himلَهُto himوَلَوْAnd ifذَكَرُواthey mentionedالْفِعْلَthe verbلَقَالُواthey would say:: مَاWhatصَدَقْتَنَاyou believed usوَهَذَاand thisبِخِلَافٍis different fromلَفْظِthe termالإِيمَانِfaith،, فَإِنَّهُfor itتُعَدَّىis directedإِلَىtoالضَّمِيرِthe pronounبِالْلَّامِwith 'lam' (the letter)دَائِمًاalways،, لَاnotيُقَالُit is said::آمَنْتُهُI believed himقَطٌّat all،, وَإِنَّمَاbut it is saidآمَنْتُI believedلَهُfor himكَمَاjust asيُقَالُ: أَقْرَرْتُI acknowledgedلَهُto him،, فَكَانَso it wasتَفْسِيرُهُhis interpretationبِالْلَّفْظِby the termالإِقْرَارِacknowledgment،, أَقْرَبَcloserمِنْthanتَفْسِيرِهِhis interpretationبِالْلَّفْظِby the termالتَّصْدِيقِbelief،, مَعَdespiteأَنْthatبَيْنَهُمَاbetween themفَرْقًاa difference

So the saying of the speaker: 'What you are is not a believer to us' includes the 'lam' (the letter) as being a subject noun, and otherwise it is only said: 'I believed him,' not 'I believed for him.' And if they mentioned the verb, they would say: 'What you believed us,' and this is different from the term 'faith,' for it is directed to the pronoun with 'lam' (the letter) always; it is not said: 'I believed him at all,' but it is said: 'I believed for him,' just as it is said: 'I acknowledged to him.' So it was, his interpretation by the term 'acknowledgment' is closer than his interpretation by the term 'belief,' despite that there is a difference between them.

The second is that is not synonymous with the term 'belief' in meaning, for every informant about a witnessed event or the unseen is said to him in language 'I believed,' as it is said 'I disbelieved.' So whoever said: 'The sky is above us,' it is said to him: 'You have believed,' just as it is said 'you have disbelieved.' And as for the term 'faith,' it is not employed except in a report about an absent one, not found in the speech that someone informed about a witnessed event, as in his saying: 'The sun has risen and set,' it is said: 'We believed' just as it is said: 'We believed him.' Therefore, narrators and witnesses and the likes of them say: 'We believed them,' and it is not said: 'We believed for them,' for faith is derived from security, and it is only employed in a report that is to be trusted upon it, like the absent matter which is trusted upon it. Therefore, it never exists at all in the Quran and elsewhere the term 'believed for him,' except in this type, and when both shared in knowing the thing, it is said: 'One believed their companion,' and not is it said: 'believed for him,' because he was not absent from him to have trusted him about it. And for this, he said: '(So Lut believed)' [The Spider: 26]. '(Should we believe in two humans like us?)' [The Believers: 47]. 'You have believed a lot [Ta-Ha: 71].
