And in the authentic hadith of Hudhaifah: until it is said to the man: what a great person he is, how delightful he is, how wise he is, and in his heart there is not the weight of a mustard seed of faith.

وَفِيAnd inحَدِيثِهِhis other hadithالْآخَرِthe otherالصَّحيحthe authentic::تَعَرَّضَtribulations are presentedالْفِتَنِthe tribulationsعَلَىtoالْقُلُوبِthe heartsكَالحَصِيرِlike a matعَوْدًاone by oneعَوْدًاone by one,,فَأَيَّSo whicheverقَلْبٍheartأَشْرَبَهَاabsorbs it,,نُكِتَتْa black spot is markedفِيهِin itنُكْتَةٌa markسَوْدَاءُblack,,وَأَيَّand whicheverقَلْبٍheartأَنْكَرَهَاdenies it,,نُكِتَتْa white spot is markedفِيهِin itنُكْتَةٌa markبَيَاضٌwhite

And in his other authentic hadith: tribulations are presented to the hearts like a mat, one by one. So whichever heart absorbs it, a black mark is marked in it, and whichever heart denies it, a white mark is marked in it.

Until it becomes on two hearts: one white like the stone, which will not be harmed by tribulations as long as the heavens and the earth endure, and the other one is black, covered with dirt, like a jug turned upside down, which does not know what is good nor denies what is bad except for what he has absorbed of his desire.

And in the hadith of the seventy thousand who enter Paradise without accounting, for it is one of the greatest evidences of the increase and decrease of faith, because he described them with strong faith and its increase in those traits that indicate the strength of their faith, and their reliance on Allah in all their affairs.

And Nuaim narrated from the path of Al-Layth bin Sa'ad, from Yazid bin Abdullah Al-Yuzni, from Abi Rafee, that he heard a man narrate to him that he asked the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم about faith, and he said: "Do you love to be informed about faith?" He said: Yes. He said: "If you did wrong or oppressed someone, your servant or maidservant, or anyone from the people, you will grieve and it will trouble you, and when you give charity or do good, you rejoice and your joy will be that.

And some narrated from Yazid, from those who heard the Prophet that he asked him about the increase and decrease of faith in the heart, and he mentioned something similar. Al-Bazzar said: He narrated to us Muhammad ibn Abi al-Hasan, who narrated Hani ibn al-Mutawakkil, who narrated Abdullah ibn Sulaiman, from Ishaq, from Anas, elevated: "Three from whom is in him deserving of reward and completes the faith: a character which lives by it in the people, and piety that stops him from disobedience to Allah, and forbearance that repels with it the ignorance of the ignorant, and four from misery: stagnation of the eyes, hardness of the heart, long hope, and greed for the world."

فَالْخِصَالُSo the traitsالأُولَىthe firstتَدُلُّindicateعَلَىonزِيَادَةِthe increaseالإِيْمَانِof faithوَقُوَّتِهِand its strength,,وَالْأَرْبَعَةُand the fourالأُخَرُothersتَدُلُّindicateعَلَىonضَعْفِهِits weaknessوَنُقْصَانِهِand decrease.

So the first traits indicate the increase and strength of faith, while the four others indicate its weakness and decrease.

And Abu Ya'la al-Mosuli said: Abdullah Al-Qawari and Yahya ibn Said both said: Abu Hudhaifah narrated that he said: "Faith begins to engrave in the heart as the stone engraves; if you increase, it increases, but if you neglect it, it breaks down." And this hadith is good.
