وَهَذَاAnd thisالنَّوْعُtypeمِنْofنَمَطٍpatternأَسْمَاءِnamesاللَّهِof Godوَأَسْمَاءِand namesكِتَابِهِof His Bookوَأَسْمَاءِand namesرَسُولِهِof His Messengerوَأَسْمَاءِand namesدِينِهِof His Religion.
And this type is of the pattern of the names of God, the names of His Book, the names of His Messenger, and the names of His Religion.
قَالَGod saidاللَّهُGodتَعَالَىthe Exalted﴿قُلْSayادْعُوInvokeاللَّهَAllahأَوِorادْعُوinvokeالرَّحْمَانَthe Most Mercifulأَيَّاwhicheverمَاwhatتَدْعُوyou invokeفَلَهُfor Himالْأَسْمَاءُare the namesالْحُسْنَى)the Best.
God said: "Say, 'Invoke Allah or invoke the Most Merciful. Whichever [name] you invoke, to Him belong the best names.'"
وَقَالَAnd He saidتَعَالَىthe Exalted﴿وَلِلَّهِAnd for Allahالْأَسْمَاءُare the namesالْحُسْنَىthe Best.فَادْعُوهُSo invoke Himبِهَاby themوَذَرُواand abandonالَّذِينَthose whoيُلْحِدُونَdistortفِيinأَسْمَائِهِHis names
And He said: "And for Allah are the best names, so invoke Him by them and abandon those who distort in His names."
وَقَالَAnd God saidاللَّهُGodتَعَالَىthe Exalted﴿هُوَHe isاللَّهُAllahالَّذِيthe One Whoلَاthere is noإِلَهَdeityإِلَّاexceptهُوَHeعَلِيمُis Knower ofالْغَيْبِthe unseenوَالشَّهَادَةِand the witnessedهُوَHe isالرَّحْمَانُthe Most Mercifulالرَّحِيمُthe Most Compassionate.
And God said: "He is Allah, there is no deity except Him. He is the Knower of the unseen and the witnessed. He is the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate."
هُوَHe isاللَّهُAllahالَّذِيthe One Whoلَاthere is noإِلَهَdeityإِلَّاexceptهُوَHeالْمَلِكُthe Kingالْقُدُّوسُthe Most Holyالسَّلَامُthe Source of Peaceالمُؤْمِنُthe Granter of Securityالْمُهَيْمِنُthe Preserver of Safetyالْعَزِيزُthe Almightyالْجَبَّارُthe Compellerالْمُتَكَبِّرُthe Supreme
He is Allah, the One Who has no deity except Him, the King, the Most Holy, the Source of Peace, the Granter of Security, the Preserver of Safety, the Almighty, the Compeller, the Supreme.
سُبْحَانَGlory beاللَّهِto Allahعَمَّfrom whatيُشْرِكُونَthey associate with Him.
Glory be to Allah from what they associate with Him.
هُوَHe isاللَّهُAllahالْخَالِقُthe Creatorالْبَارِئُthe Evolverالْمُصَوِّرُthe FashionerلَهُTo Himالْأَسْمَاءُare the namesالْحُسْنَىthe Best.
He is Allah, the Creator, the Evolver, the Fashioner. To Him belong the best names.
يُسَبِّحُWhatever is glorifyingلَهُfor Himمَاwhatفِيinالسَّمَاوَاتِthe heavensوَandالْأَرْضِthe earth
Whatever is in the heavens and the earth is glorifying Him.
وَAndهُوَHe isالْعَزِيزُthe Almightyالْحَكِيمُthe All-Wise.
And He is the Almighty, the All-Wise.
فَأَسْمَاؤُهُSo His namesكُلَّهَاall areمُتَّفِقَةٌagreeingفِيinالدَّلَالَةِdenotingعَلَىonنَفْسِهِHis Selfالْمُقَدَّسَةِthe Sacred.
So His names are all agreeing in denoting His Sacred Self.
ثُمَّThenكُلَّeveryاسْمٍnameيَدُلُّdenotesعَلَىonمَعْنًىa meaningمِنْofصِفَاتِهِHis attributesلَيْسَnotهُوَitالمَعْنَىthe meaningالَّذِيthatدَلَّindicatedعَلَيْهِby itالْاسْمُthe nameالآخَرُthe other.
Then each name denotes a meaning of His attributes that is not the meaning indicated by the other name.
الْعَزِيزُThe AlmightyيَدُلُّdenotesعَلَىonنَفْسِهِHis SelfمَعَwithعِزَّتِهِHis might.
The Almighty denotes His Self with His might.
وَالْخَالِقُAnd the CreatorيَدُلُّdenotesعَلَىonخَلْقِهِHis creation.
And the Creator denotes His creation.
وَالرَّحِيمُAnd the Most MercifulيَدُلُّdenotesعَلَىonنَفْسِهِHis SelfمَعَwithرَحْمَتِهِHis mercy.
And the Most Merciful denotes His Self with His mercy.
وَنَفْسُهُAnd His Selfتَسْتَلْزِمُentailsجَمِيعَall
And His Self entails all.
فَصَارَSo it becameكُلُّeveryاسْمٍnameيَدُلُّdenotesعَلَىonذَاتِهِHis essenceوَالْصِّفَةِand the specific attributeالْمُخَصَّصَةِspecial to itبِهَاby itبِطَرِيقَةِby means ofالمَطَابَقَةِconformity.
So each name denotes His essence and the specific attribute special to it by means of conformity.
وَعَلَىAnd onأَحَدِهِمَاone of themبِطَرِيقَةِby means ofالتَّضَمُّنِinclusion.
And on one of them by means of inclusion.
وَعَلَىAnd onالصِّفَةِthe attributeالْأُخْرَىthe otherبِطَرِيقَةِby means ofاللُّزُومِnecessity.
And on the other attribute by means of necessity.
وَهَكَذَاAnd likewiseأَسْمَاءُthe namesكِتَابِهِof His Bookالْقُرْآنِthe Quranوَالْفُرْقَانِand the Criterionوَالْكِتَابِand the Bookوَالْهُدَىand the Guidanceوَالْبَيَانِand the Explanationوَالْشِّفَاءِand the Cureوَالنُّورِand the Lightوَنَحْوِand similarذَٰلِكَto thatهِيَareبِهَذِهِin thisالْمَنْزِلَةِstatus.
And likewise the names of His Book: the Quran, the Criterion, the Book, the Guidance, the Explanation, the Cure, the Light, and so forth, are in this status.
وَكَذَلِكَAnd likewiseأَسْمَاءُthe namesرَسُولِهِof His MessengerمُحَمَّدٍMuhammadوَأَحْمَدَand Ahmadوَالْمَاحِيand the Eraserوَالْحَاشِرِand the Gathererوَالْمُقَفِّيand the Lastوَنَبِيٍّand the Prophetالرَّحْمَةِof Mercyوَنَبِيٍّand the Prophetالتَّوبَةِof Repentanceوَنَبِيٍّand the Prophetالْمَلْحَمَةِof the Battle
And likewise the names of His Messenger: Muhammad, Ahmad, the Eraser, the Gatherer, the Last, the Prophet of Mercy, the Prophet of Repentance, and the Prophet of the Battle.
كُلُّEveryاسْمٍnameيَدُلُّdenotesعَلَىonصِفَةٍa qualityمِنْofصِفَاتِهِHis attributesالْمَمْدُوحَةِlaudableغَيْرَother thanالصِّفَةِthe qualityالأُخْرَىthe other.
Every name denotes a quality of His laudable attributes other than the other quality.
وَهَكَذَاAnd likewiseمَاwhatيُثْنَىis mentionedذِكْرُهُin mentionمِنْofالْقَصَصِthe storiesفِيinالْقُرْآنِthe Quranكَكِصَةِsuch as the storyمُوسَىof Mosesوَغَيْرِهَاand others
And likewise what is mentioned of the stories in the Quran, such as the story of Moses and others.
لَيْسَis notالمَقْصُودُintendedبِهَاby themأَنْto beسَمَرًاmere tales.بَلْRather,المَقْصُودُintendedبِهَاby themأَنْis to beعِبَرًاlessons.
The intended purpose of them is not to be mere tales, rather the intended purpose is to be lessons.
كَمَاAsقَالَHe saidتَعَالَىthe Exalted﴿لَقَدْIndeedكَانَthere wasفِيinقَصَصِهِمْtheir storiesعِبْرَةٌa lessonلِأُولِيfor those withالْأَلْبَابِ)understanding.
As He said: "Indeed, in their stories is a lesson for those who understand."
فَالَّذِيSo whatوَقَعَoccurredشَيْءٌsomethingوَاحِدٌoneوَلَهُand for himصِفَاتٌqualitiesفَيُعَبَّرُis expressed
So what occurred is one thing and it has qualities.
بِعِبَارَاتٍBy diverse expressionsمُتَنَوِّعَةٍdiverseكُلُّeveryعِبَارَةٍexpressionتَدُلُّindicatesعَلَىonصِفَةٍa qualityمِنْofالصِّفَاتِthe qualitiesالَّتِيthatيُعْتَبَرُthe consideredبِهَاby themالْمُعْتَبَرُونَthe considered.
By diverse expressions, every expression indicates a quality of the qualities that are considered by the considered.
وَلَيْسَAnd notهَذَاthisمِنْofالتَّكْرِيرِthe repetitionفِيinشَيْءٍanything.
And this is not from the repetition in anything.
